Our Ugly World
The U.S. went to war in 1941 because it was determined to conquer the whole world. That's why it went to war with Korea. It was to be the entree to an invasion of a China which the British had ruled and plundered until 1939. But it didn't work. All American wars since then have been aimed at world conquest.
The Americans also dragged in Canadians for their war. (After all, the British had long dragged in the Canadians for their wars starting with South Africa.) So it was that the U.S. became an American world aggressor and it dumped Britain and kissed up to the Canadians
The U.S. has now been fighting those wars - some of them quite successfully, some not so - for years. Over the years since 1949, the U.S. has rampaged and murdered in a hundred and more countries. It has also murdered nobody knows how many children and even babies as their enemies. And it has routinely, using radio guided aircraft, bombed men, women and children who were countries not at war.
The Canadian Legion might well wonder how many children and babies Canadians killed. (The Canadians were in Afghanistan for 12 years. But nobody has any record of the killings. I guess our heroes were too shy to tell us about it.)
Ask a member of the Legion why Canadians did the killing. They'll tell you they did it for their country - a remarkable piece of stupidity. How attacking and murdering other nations can be good for our country is a brainless babble.
(My father was a navy veteran of WW2. He went to the Legion only once. But he was a non-drinker and drinking seemed to be the only skill that Legion members had. I am puzzled why such an organization should have the power to approve of wars is something I don't understand.)
_________________________________________________________________
Last night, I worked late until a little after midnight. Then I opened a window to let the fresh air in, and snuggled myself after that.
Then I was stunned by the loudest thunder I have ever had. There was a stunningly heavy rain, more thunder. There was the noise of something on my balcony. I guess is was those giant, frozen ice balls.
Get used to it. We are going to see more and worse of this. These are storms caused by our utter failure to deal with this planet we have abused so badly. These are related to the even worse and more dangerous horrors of the failure of much of the U.S., B.C. Alberta to remind of our failure to deal with climate control.
We're going to get more of this. And much worse of it.
Among other things, the failure of our kiss up to American oil billionaires, a kissup organized by the Liberals and Conservatives, is going to haunt us terribly. This happened just months ago when Liberal Trudeau and Conservative O'Toole met on the B.C. border with the US to assure American oil companies and politicians that oil sands were perfectly safe. This was said even as BC was suffering huge fires fed by oil sands. ________________________________
As I write this, I think of another very ugly feature of our lives. In the U.S.over 70 million people now live and sleep on the streets. Years ago, I saw the same sort of thing on the streets of Hong Kong after dark. But those were only thousands. In the U.S. In the US it's far, far worse.
And the U.S. does nothing for their street people. No. In the U.S. the money is spent on trillions of dollars for what it by far the most expensive military in the world - FAR the most.
Recently, huge numbers of the poor who lived in cheap housing were kicked out into the streets.
You get sick in the states? Tough. Hospitals in the U.S. are designed just to make money for billionaires. Many common treatments that cost nothing in Canada cost tens of thousands of dollars in the U.S. And that means a great many Americans have to stay out - and die. Neither Liberals nor Conservatives in Canada introduced our medical system. The old NDP forced it on them.
The U.S. has impoverished a huge part of its population to please the rich. And, for the money of the wealthy they have multiplied into the billions and even the trillions as the super rich send their wealth up like rockets.
Those super, super rich are the ones calling for (and getting) a war in China. with thousands of nuclear missiles on both sides, this will be the bloodiest war in history.
Why does the U.S. want a war with China? It is because China has at last thrown out the horror of it's British control, and is now a rival to American corporations.
No! No! mustn't do that. (Yes. China does mistreat some of its people. But the Chinese scale of brutality is far less than that of the U.S. The U.S. is by far the most brutal and murderous nation of our time.)
And the war? It could kill well over a billion people - men, women, and children. It's also possible some of China's nuclear bombs could reach Canada and the U.S. But don't worry. I'm sure the super rich will be tucked away in safe havens.
This is the worst time in the history of planet earth. And we are really governed by billionaires who are damn fools.
__________________________________________________________________
Actually, we have fallen into an old pattern. In the days of British Empire, the country was really ruled by super rich. They're the ones who put crews on ships at almost no salaries, and then tossed them into the streets when they were no longer useful.
A recent sample of this ruling class was Winston Churchill who was not the nice guy he seemed to be in World War 2. In fact, as a member of the British upper class he never gave a damn about the common people. Before the war, when he was a power in the far East, he deliberately allowed millions of people in India to die as he cut off their food supplies. (Well- they were just common people.)
Check his record. You'll never find a piece of legislation to help the poor in all his political life. (Britain now has a premier from the upper class who has no interest in the needs of the people.) And Trudeau and O'Toole are both cut from the same cloth.
I knew Pierre Trudeau quite well. (He wanted me to be a Liberal candidate.) Even he had to pay close attention to the wishes of the super rich. I preferred not to spend my life kissing rich asses.) __________________________________________________________________

Canada's Future?
It's late. And I'm tired. And I'm disgusted.
I'm disgusted with a hell of a lot of Canadians. I'm disgusted with a hell of a lot of Canadians as they make a farce out of the horror they are bringing down on all of us.
You must know what flames can do. We've surely seen enough to know what millions of acres of flames can do. We've all see the massive flames of California, flames that reach all the way to New York. We're seeing that in B.C.
We're going to see a lot worse. Really a lot worse. It's a part of our wild horror that is also destroying other necessities. In Greenland, for example, it has, for the first time rained on that country's giant glacier. What that means, for the world, is dangerously higher oceans - one of the factors that will sink Nova Scotia into the sea - (and New York perhaps close to the time when Nova Scotia goes down.)
We know what's causing this. The major factor is the poison we send into the air from the murderous gasses released by cars, gasses that float back to earth and create the horror that is California. The human forces that drive this are the leaders of the oil and gas industries. And that's a very lucrative industry for those people.
Accordingly, they invited political leaders from Canada and the U.S. to meet near the U.S. border in BC. I think Biden was there. And Trudeau. And the leading Conservatives.
And they welcomed the oil and gas bosses of the U.S. and promised to keep Canada involved. Yes, a BC to increase the poisoning in it's atmosphere was good. Some BCrs had already died. By there were lots more. Anything to make American oil barons happy.
This situation is going to get worse every year. It's going to smother where you live. And it's doing it all over the world. We haven't begun to see the horror that is spreading over us. And it's all to please the smirking oil barons.
Indeed, it's quite possible, even likely, that most, maybe all, of our children will never see the next century or even get close to it.
During our 70 years of war, the U.S. has been the world's most murderous nation. It has not made the U.S. military particularly effective. But it made lots money in contracts for the rich. In fact, no country in the world comes close to the U.S. in war spending. And if you check all those wars, you'll find a hell of a lot of losses.
Now, it's readying for another war with China, a war certain to be the bloodiest war in history. As usual, American news media will act as though this is a dangerous war necessary (and with Canada invited to join.) The excuse given is that China is evil. In fact, the most evil country in the world is the U.S. And it has been for seventy years.
Many years ago, I read an article on the US vision of itself a leader for good. In fact, Even those many years ago, the U.S. was murderous and plundering. It murdered and plundered it's way through Latin America in the 19th century, robbing the people blind and sending even the children down into mines.
In 1941, the US entered the war NOT because of the attack on Pearl Harbour. That certainly gave them the excuse. But the purpose, long before Pearl Harbour, was to steal much of the British Empire - starting with China. World conquest is still the main interest of the U.S. And the conquest of Canada is a part of that world conquest dream. (Actually, it hasn't been as much of a conqueror as it hoped it would be.)
As you read our papers, you can get the impression that the U.S. was nice to Afghanistan. Like hell it was. For the most part it was the most murderous, cheating, lying country in the world. (But that part of the world could be quite varied. That's why one city was pro-American.)
And Canada's Liberals and Conservatives have been ass kissers for seventy years.
Don't trust Canadian newspapers. They lie. Don't trust the Canadian Legion.
And remember Canada's Liberals and Conservatives, as always, have abandoned Canadians at this time. The U.S. is not our friend. and oh, the Liberals and Conservatives are not our friends.
Think about that at this election time.
already been killed.

Let's Get Real
The world we know today began in 1920. That's when Britain and France began invasions of the Muslim countries of the middle east. A major force in that was the British airforce which happily murdered Muslims because they were, you know, Muslims.
But that ended in 1939.
In 1949, the U.S. slowly adopted the old, British moves. American news media spread lies and hatred about the Muslim nations. That led the way to American invasions which were aimed at Muslims - but not yet in a very public way. It took a little while for western hatred to reveal itself.
Then the hatred took flight. The U.S. bombed Muslim countries - with an emphasis on hitting civilians and children. Hatred of Muslims became a major theme of American life. Radio talk shows took up the theme.
This was a major theme of American hatred. (The U.S., incidentally, is a country that was awash in hatred throughout it's history. They took it out on just about every group it enountered - it's native peoples, on Canada --- yes, the U.S. hated Canada and invaded it many times. It nearly invaded as late as 1904 over the issue of who owned our river to the Yukon. But Canada backed off when Britain refused to help it. It was rare, very rare, for the U.S. not to be at war with somebody. (It still is.)
Canada treated it's native peoples badly. The U.S. was much worse, and there were very few survivors. George Washington, incidentally, had nothing but contempt for those who were not rich. And he never permitted democracy to exist.
In Canada, like the US, the daily newspaper appeared about a hundred and 70 years ago. From the start, the daily paper was dishonest - as it is to this day. (I get the National Post which is as lying as they come.) Newspapers exist to serve the very rich.
Almost as early as the end of world war two, Canadian capitalists dumped Britain as our leader and kissed up to the U.S. That's why Canadians now die in American wars instead of British ones. That's why there is nothing Canadian about the Canadian Legion.
The U.S., meanwhile, is determined to rule the world. That's why Canadians died in obedience to American command in Afghanistan. The U.S. (and us), were brutally savage in Afghanistan. Children, even babies, were special targets.
Damn it. Get real. We are mass murderers.
The twin towers attack in New York was carried out by Muslims. So? The US, Britain and us have been killing Muslims like that for a hundred years. Let's get real. We are evil.
(Actually, the twin towers attack was pretty tame stuff compared to American slaughter.)
Oh, and if you think the twin towers was terrible, it was carried out by people who have suffered such attack for years, murdering their families, destroying their homes.
Was Osama bin Laden evil? He was far less evil than the Americans who stabbed him to death.
Do you have any religious values? Forget it. You don't. This Christian world hasn't had any religious values for a thousand years and more.
Most of our heroes, alas, have been pretty damned evil. Winston Churchill, for all the praise heaped on him, was a murderous bastard. His whole life was spent fighting wars to please the super rich of Britain. During the war, he was asked to send food and water to millions of starving civilians in India. He refused. And they died. The British voted against him as the war ended. They knew they would never get anything from him.
Many, perhaps most, of the heroes we applaud have been callous bastards.
We now face the most destructive forces this world has ever seen. And our greed gets in the way of facing them. What's going to happen to us in Canada?
Simple. The US is going to demand that it be given Canadian territory as a response to climate change.
And our Liberals and Conservatives will kiss American asses.
Oh, ever notice we never hear anything about our soldiers and their fighting in Afghanistan? Hundreds died. Many, an unknown number, have been severely damaged for life thanks to the half witted organization we call The Canadian Legion - an organization that routinely sends Canadians to die. How come it never tells us what we are doing to help a great many Canadians who are suffering terribly from their war experience? (We aren't doing anything. We only do things to help our billionaires who never go to war.)
China was terribly robbed, starved, murdered by our ancestors. It's taken a long time, but China is now a nation rebuilt. It's now a major player on the world market.
So we gotta destroy it.
We don't need mass murders. We need to care. And we don't. And oh, this is going to cost us terribly. And soon. And it could well be before the end of this century.

If you have tears.....
...think a little bit...
It was some twenty years ago that agents from Afghanistan crashed passenger aircraft into the twin towers in New York. That is what caused the U.S. to attack Afghanistan in what the U.S. called "the war on terrorism".
Sort of....
In fact, the European powers, notably France and Britain, had been attacking and murdering Muslim countries since 1920. After World War Two, the Americans took over the slaughter. The reason?
It was the reason for most wars -to plunder those countries. Yes, the reality is that western capitalists were the terrorists.
But western newspapers never told that story. Of course not. The western capitalists, after all, were the same people who owned those newspapers. So the official word was Muslims were terrorists - and we were launched into the war on terrorism. Canada went to war while the Canadian Legion wet it's pants for joy as it sent Canadians to die.
And the US even had a catchword ready - the war on terror. In fact, it was the British and the French and then the U.S. and Britain and Canada who were the terrorists.
As I watch TV news, I see that it's the other side who are bad guys. In fact, it's us. It always has been. And no western newspaper I have ever heard of has told the truth on this. And as I watch U.S. news (CNN) I see it lying constantly - and CNN is probably the best of the U.S. news services. (Canadian news services, even CBC, are often no better. (Check out a web site called rabble.ca on your computer. That's an honest site featuring honest reporters. It was founded by a CBC reporter who was determined to get some honesty in the news.)
Get used to it. Your news media are liars. Reporters who are honest get fired.
The dishonesty goes way back to a man who became a movie - Citizen Kane. He was a journalist who used his papers to support American wars in Latin America - Which is why American billionaires have been able to plunder Latin America for over a century.
In the case of current wars, the only "profitable" one is the U.S. in Afghanistan. It has massive funding making it the largest war money pot in the whole world. Indeed, the U.S. is the biggest war spender in the world - by far. (and it still can't win.) But oh, big money in the U.S. just loves all the contracts it gets.
And, in the not too distant future the U.S. is going to need more territory because of the enormous damage caused by climate change in the U.S. And guess which country it will take for itself. (No. Not Mexico.)
By the way, why didn't Canada, after 6 years or so in Afghanistan, pull out? Isn't it odd to act like that in a war? Was that a decision of the Canadian Legion? (I doubt it.) Why were we never given any reason? Pulling out of a war is usually an admission of defeat. Why didn't the Legion give a reason?
We are in dangerous times. Both Liberals and Conservatives have committed themselves to ignore all the warnings about oil fields, and to plunge into cooperation with the U.S. in this product that murders.
Oh, you're an admirer of the U.S.? This is the country that has driven many, many millions of it's people into the streets without a place to sleep, without money, without food, where children and the elderly die in huge numbers. It's also the country whose super rich can ignore most of their taxes. Meanwhile, the super rich are making their biggest profits in history.
At my age, I'll surely die fairly soon. But, oh, I'm ill at the thought of the world my children are inheriting.

Time to get bitter
As I write this, I am in one hell of a bad mood. The coming election is going to be a disaster.
It might help to mention I was born into the deep poverty of the depression of the 1930s. The district was one of the most violent and poorest in Montreal, and with a huge French majority who had been raised to hate English kids.
Like all the kids I grew up with, I was raised NOT to finish school. I made it to grade 11 - much more than most of my friends - then was kicked out. No problem. I was never expected to finish. And I got a job in a filthy and drunken factory. My parents were very pleased.
But I ruined their hopes. I went to school at night to finish high school, and then got a BA. It was a cheap and dirty one. But it was a BA. Then, with teacher training I became an elementary school teacher. (my parents were very disappointed with me. I was trying to rise above my station.)
Then I decided to go to a distant university. There, this dolt got an MA which took me to a grad school to get a PhD and to teach in a university. And that brought CBC to ask me to speak regularly on CBC.
I was two years on the morning show at CBC. Then I was fired. I was fired under pressure from the French branch of CBC. The French, who were separatists who were determined to destroy Canada, wanted me out because I was on the executive of the group determined to keep Canada united among both French and English.
But I immediately got picked up by Montreal's most popular English station to appear every week day to talk on radio. And that led to more than thirty years of radio, then to TV, and a daily discussion on the day's news.
That also led me to speak for some 70 or eighty talks a year to various groups.
As well, I got interested enough to write thousands of articles for newpapers and groups. for TV, for radio.....
Yes, thousands... As I write this, in the room next to me are large boxes of many thousands of these writings - and they are only the minority of the writings that I did.
We are now facing an election and an advanced poll for seniors at my residence was held yesterday. I was shocked by it.
Everybody in the building except me voted either Liberal or Conservative.
Let's get real.
The Liberals and Conservatives both are in favour of developing oil fields. This is insane. Climate change is one hell of an issue we have to deal with. Both Liberals and Conservatives support the oil claims - because both kiss the asses of the wealthy.
And it has been proven that those oil fields are destroying our environment, destroying huge land masses, spreading massive fires - oh - and killing all of us.
But when I said this, a woman there was extremely angry with me. (As well, almost all our newspapers have played this lightly - if at all.)
The woman said I should study these things. (I'm pretty sure I've studied this a hell of a lot more than she has.) Oh, and a member of the Canadian legion was there. Like all members of the legion he believed we had brought peace and joy to Afghanistan. He's one of those members of the Legion who think it's work is good. In fact, The Legion is a puppet organization. You can be sure it always does what billionaires tell it to do.
As a matter of fact, we murdered Afghans on a huge scale - making a special effort to murder uncounted numbers of children and babies. The U.S. and Canada did NOT go to afghanistan to help the poor and helpless. They went to get control of what they expected to be highly profitable natural resources. (I noted today's news carried stories about the good things the US tried to do for Afghanistan. Like hell it did. Billionaires don't do good things to anybody but themselves. And we should not be so silly, in the light of children's and baby's bodies, not to know this.
By the way, the Canadian army was pulled back from Afghanistan after some 12 years. One doesn't usually walk out of a war. I wonder what that walk was about. Oh, well, we also sent some of the returning Canadian soldiers to destroy democracy in Haiti - though that story never made it into our papers
More serious was the war on Guatemala. This was an invasion by mercenaries in the 1950s and 60s. The leader of it was George Bush Sr. His target?
Guatemala was proufoundly Catholic.. The purpose of the invasion was to murder all Catholics, especially priests, nuns, and missionaries.
Funny how that never got into our news. I learned about it only in the 80s. But our newspapers wouldn't touch it. One of the victims was a missionary from New Brunswick. In fact, his early life had been spent in a town dominated by the super wealthy Irving family.
He was brought back to New Brunswick to be buried just outside the Irving town. But that story has never made the papers. Of course not. Irving owns the papers.
Get used to it. Your newspapers lie all the time. Indeed, many honest reporters have been dumped for many years now. In all of Canada (and the U.S.), I don't know of a single, honest newspaper -and I've seen almost all of them.
Oh, I also watch U.S. TV. For a long time, I've thought CNN was sort of decent. But I looked over their coverage of Afghanistan. Terrible. (No. I'm not saying the Taliban are good.)
And for the lady in my building who disapproves of what I have to say - Get stuffed, lady. Unlike you, I know what I'm talking about. Ditto for the Legionaire. _________________________________________________________________

Wake Up.
It's late to start a blog. But I'm trying to catch up on missing several of them. That happens to us old folks. We get tired and sort of lost. Let's start with a topic that should be obvious - but isn't. And, perhaps because it is so obvious, it is, well, not obvious.
The Liberal Party and the Conservative party are the same party.
No. I didn't now make that up.
They are both the same party and always have been. And most 'democracies' are like that. And it's been that way from the start.
The Liberals and the Conservatives are both controlled by the very wealthiest people in Canada. (It's the same in the U.S.) Both parties are controlled by the same super rich people. And they don't own them to create national unity. The Super Rich control both parties. They always have controlled them. The super rich pay for all their advertising, for all the campaigning...In return, the Liberals and Conservatives are good boys who do what the super rich tell them to do.
The same is true in the U.S. going back to a George Washington who always believed only in government by the super rich.
In return those parties got buckets of money from the super rich. It's so obvious, one would think everyone would realize that. And so the super rich have become richer with every government. And the super rich have long ago - from the start - controlled both the Liberals and Conservatives.
And need I add that all of the newspapers (also owned by the super rich) play that game. Never trust any commercial newspaper. And never trust Liberals and never trust Conservatives.
_________________________________________________________________
The U.S. has the most expensive military in the world.
So how come it couldn't beat Afghanistan?
Well, for a start, the money for that expensive military comes from big-time military suppliers who are more interested in making money for themselves than in defending the U.S. (or in making it a serious military power.) For example, one of their joys is their air fleet of unmanned bombers who are controlled by "pilots" sitting in unmovable model aircraft in or near washington airports. These people control unmanned bombers on the other side of the world and over countries the U.S. is not at war with.
The "pilots" can control them at that distance, usually to bomb civilians - whole families, children, babies. God bless America. The families they bomb are almost always in countries the U.S. is not at war with.
Canada, with the support of the Canadian Legion, is now considering to do this mass murder of innocent civilians. You know, to be patriotic like Americans. You know, like, we have to deal with terrorism.
The U.S., since 1949, has been amazingly brutal, with a great interest in killing "terrorists" when, in fact, it is the biggest terrorist in the world, specializing in children and babies.
How is it different from the Naziis? And if Canadian manufacturers and the Legion play a role in this, how are we different from Naziis?
__________________________________________________________________
As I write this, 35 million unemployed Americans have lost their unemployment benefits. They are now being dumped into the streets of the U.S. with the millions of unemployed already there.
When I was in Hong Kong, I saw thousands of unemployed for miles sleeping on sidewalks - whole families - parents, children, babies. Today's move in the U.S. is thousands of times worse. The super wealthy of the U.S. are living in splendour - largely free even of income tax: the children of the poor are dying in the streets in their millions. (And we're seeing this even now.)
The U.S. (like Canada) treats the super rich with splendour. And the children of the streets? I was a child in Montreal in the dirty thirties. I remember well the filth and hunger of it. I remember we had no expectation of living decently. Nothing was expected of us. All my friends dropped out of school, one as early as grade 3. Of course. Nobody expected anything of us. I was kicked out in grade 11. My parents were so proud. Now, I could get a job in a very dirty and low-paying factory.
We have created one hell of a world. And worse, much worse, is on the way. (I remember a woman infuriated by my defence of China. Well, China is a society that houses ALL of its people - even the competely penniless.) The U.S. is a country ruled by the brutal, and with many, many millions in horrible conditions. Canada is sliding down, too. As in worship of all of those Liberals and Conservatives we are going to be foolish enough to elect.
I'm glad that in the end I chose to be a cranky professor.

Canada and the U.S. - A Marriage Made in Hell.
Sorry to be late with this. I've had a bout of something or other. It was a heavy duty sickness brought on, perhaps, by secret agents of the Canadian Legion whispering about me on my 88th birthday. Actually, the Legion is, almost certainly, supporting an attempt to buy pilotless Bomber aircraft. This could be an inspiration to all of us.
The U.S. has been using these for many years. In general, their purpose is to bomb people who are not enemies but helpless men, women and children who are down below - and not in a war zone. So the U.S. has been killing them for some years with pilotless bombers. Your dollars at work.
The U.S. is also setting up 7.5 million Americans. These are the Americans who don't have jobs but have had jobless benefits. Well, enough of this lollygagging. They are due to lose those jobless benefits, and get kicked out into the streets. And that will happen in just one day as they join the millions of Americans who are already living in the streets.
And that's okay. The U.S. will now be able to give that money to billionaires who continue to bomb civilians who aren't actually in any war.
Meanwhile, Canada's bill for our time in Afghanistan comes to a jolly two trillion dollars. (I'm so proud to read that.)
But even more important are the salaries for American war production manfacturers up 1322 percent.
But they haven't forgotten their workers. No. The workers got 18 percent. Wow? at the same time.
This seventy years of war has been wonderful for billionaires. At the same time, salaries have been plunging for their employees. Children and employees in the U.S. are starving while super rich billionaires wallow in money (That they will pay little or no tax on.)
The U.S. has become an unspeakably greedy and murderous leadership that rules many millions of the poor and the hungry.
(This reminds me of some Candians I have run into who are critical of China). In fact, the Chinese are far more caring than American (and Canadian) billionaires are.
Will the U.S. recover from what it's billionaires have become? I doubt it very much. In a confused and not very intelligent way, the U.S. will fall (is falling) in a disastrous way. It is very likely to push Canada into a merger with it - which the Liberals and Conservatives will buy into. (Liberals, Conservatives, GOP, and Democrats are all cut from the same cloth. Many Canadians are already turning to the Conservatives. Damned if I know why.) __________________________________________________________________
I shall take a day or two to get over the deep disgust I feel for where we are heading.

The Evil that is us.
I've been bothered for a long time by the behaviour of the west. And bothered that we don't recognize how evil we are. And, yes, evil means the U.S., Britain and Canada.
Historically, we've usually cheered for the evil ones.
China, for example was under British control for a hundred years. In that time the British plundered and abused and impoverished the Chinese. The British loved their years of murdering, enslaving the people of China.
And when people speak of the filth and poverty of China, they are speaking of the damage that They (the British) have done, of the horrible housing, of the slums. (That brings us to a woman who wrote to me that I was ignorant of China's dreadful housing today. In fact, China has done a marvelous job, perhaps the best of any country in the world. In China, you won't see millions living in filth and hunger as in the U.S. And you will now see a world class education system.)
Of course that's not the way our news media see it. In their view, it's a backward and poverty stricken country. And that's commonly the report we get from British, American and Canadian political visitors (snobs). One of them (from New Brunswick) wrote a vicious letter to me about how terrible conditions are. That's a common opinion of arrogant westerners. I came to know the type well among the British in Hong Kong. (And a foul sample of the type in New Brunswick who wrote an angry letter to me about how evil the Chinese are.)
In reality, China has made tremendous progress, especially since 1975. And the U.S. has not. Yes, China has done things I don't like. But it's nothing even close to western standard of murder and greed and lies.
I don't know what Chinese news media are like. But I know what American and Canadian and western news media are. They are lying propaganda.
One day, late in the 1990s, I learned that U.S. special forces (hired thugs) in Latin America and led by George Bush sr. had been murdering Latin American Christian clergy - priests, nuns and missionairies back in the 70s. It had never made the news in Canada and the U.S.
One of their victims was a missionary born in the same New Brunswick town as the Irvings.
No American or Canadian newspaper has ever carried that story. And, that includes, of course, the Irving newspapers.
We are lied to every day in our commercial news media. They have been lying to us every day since at least the 1870s. And, Yes, that's a stain that goes all the way up to the New York Times.

No. Even as I write this, I'm thinking of a brutal and savage world we live in, and that we don't talk about openly - though we are are in danger of the greed of those who have power over us. It's not new. But it has reached a terrifying peak that began in World War Two.
Democracy has completely collapsed in the U.S. And it's not as healthy as it should be in Canada. This is very ugly stuff. But we have to recognize that it's happening.
I really don't like to talk about this because almost all of us are victims.
But we have to deal with reality.
