The Conservatives have long taken a position that the CBC news network (owned by all of us) should be destroyed.

Of course. The CBC is by far the best news service in Canada. At that, it's more than a little hobbled by government friends of the very rich - and even others.
I learned that after a few years of being on a talk show on CBC. It seems that Quebec separatists demanded I be taken off the air because I was on the board of an anti-separatist group called Alliance Quebec. In fact, my show was NEVER about separatism at all. But top CBC management had some separatists on it - and they wanted me gone. So I was fired.

The interference with CBC is bad news. But CBC is still far the best news service in Canada. (which is why the oil people and  the Conservatives want to destroy it.)

Canada's newspapers are almost all trash. They are heavily biased, and they obey their wealthy owners. In short, most of them are as bad as the U.S. newspapers. Perhaps the worst of them is the Irving Press of New Brunswick, but the Last Post chain has brought propaganda and ignorance all over this country.

The origin of that press was a man I met many times because he was on my CBC radio show just before me. He was, and is, Conrad Black who was and is an arrogant bundle of ignorance and lies and thievery - for which he would serve prison time. But Trump forgave him. (Birds of a feather.)

Most of our news media work on the principle of our side as good guys and the other side as bad guys. So the killing of the ISIS leader is good. (Clap hands for Jesus.) But the killing of an American ruler would be bad.

If you study world wars One and Two, it is obvious that Britain was as much as Germany responsible for them. All the non-stop  wars  of the U.S. have been illegal wars since 1945 and the many millions of dead were caused to stuff the wallets of very wealthy Americans, with wealthy Canadians sliding in. The conquest of Latin America is very similar to Hitler's wars - but on a smaller scale.

We were horrified at Hitler's holocaust that killed over 4,000,000 Jews. (And I guess we just forget how much we helped Hitler to do it. Of course, today's holocaust is the Israeli one inflicted on Muslims.

Radio Station news? Very unreliable. Most radio stations have only one reporter - if that.  And that reporter can only briefly look at even local news. Much of their news is simply copied from the lying newspapers.

TV news? Again, it has it's faults. But again, CBC leads the pack. Ditto for radio CBC.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/school-violence-racism-bullying-1.5328735

Get used to it. Canada is a very racist country. It always has been. There was slavery in Canada, slavery of both Blacks and native peoples. (The French settlers, for example, tried to enslave the native peoples. Luckily, it didn't work very well, because they could too easily escape into the forests.) Nor did Canada end slavery. That was done by a British act of 1834 that banned slavery throughout the colonial empire. (Mind you, a racist like Winston Churchill happily enslaved millions. He had nothing but contempt for all non-white people, and he happily bombed and starved millions of them to death.)

But that wasn't the end of the racism.

Most Canadian cities permitted Blacks to live only in the  "Black" district. Halifax forced them to live in the foulest area of the city. Until recently, they were commonly banned from movie theatres and restaurants. Montreal forced almost all Blacks to live in a shabby district. And in Montreal's heyday as a night club centre (from the 1930s to the 1950s and more, they were not permitted to enter the clubs except as entertainers. And then they were not permitted to sit at the tables or to talk to white customers. For Black women, the only jobs available were as entertainers or as the lowest of household servants. For men, almost the only jobs were as railway porters. Indeed, the living area was deliberately set to be close to the railway station.

My uncle was a boxing coach who often travelled with his boxers. The Black ones were not permitted - in any Canadian city - to stay at hotels or to eat in restaurants.

In the latter part of the nineteenth century, Chinese were allowed to come to Canada. Of course. They were wanted only as the cheapest possible labour to built the CPR railway. They were also assigned the most dangerous jobs -  such as exploding tunnels. And many died of that.

With the railway built, they were forced to live in Chinatowns. Only in Chinatowns. (In most cities - and probably still so today -  places for rent commonly had signs that said "Select clientele only". That meant no Blacks, no orientals

When I was fourteen or fifteen, my father was the scoutmaster in Chinatown, and I helped him. The shocker came when we went to the scout camp for two weeks.
The white boys at camp worked every minute to humiliate and bully the Chinese.  I had never seen anything like that at the camp before.

Well, yes, there was the case of the Jewish scouts from the YMHA troop. Among other things, there was a daily supper routine of humiliating them. At supper in the dining hall, the scouts of the various troops gave their troop cheers.
So did the Jewish boys, ending with 'YMHA, ra, ra, ra'.
All the other troops would then yell ha, ha, ha.

Of course, we were also the good Christians who refused to allow European Jews to escape from Hitler's Germany. (I knew a couple who did escape. But they were rich enough to bribe Canadian officials.) Just before the war - and at a time when we knew what Hitler was doing to them, a shipload of German Jews got to
Britain - then Canada - then the U.S. All three of us sent them back to die.

We were a part of the holocaust.

During the war, over a hundred Jewish children escaped the death camps and got to Spain. Spain would not let them stay. Canada, Britain and the U.S. refused to accept them. So Spain sent them back to the death camps.

In fact, Canada would still not accept Jews, even for some years after the war.

In 1962, I was the director of a Jewish camp, so I wore a YMHA T-shirt with a great Star of David on it. So attired, I was one day invited to a nearby lake that was the summer resort of Montreal's wealthiest families. And I joined into a game of soft ball.

That night, I later learned, there was an emergency meeting of Montreal's elite to find out who had 'invited the Jew'.

Canada is and always has been profoundly racist.  Yes it still is. Check out Quebec's recent racist laws.

Most of the Liberals and Conservative money comes from very wealthy individuals and corporations. So guess who really runs this country?

No, the big money doesn't come from us. It comes from the people who have piles of money to spare - partly because they don't have any income tax to pay.
Why on earth do we allow that? And, as long as we allow that, we won't ever have a government that represents us.

Canada has to support a corrupt government in Haiti. We are the ones who helped to bring that corrupt government to power. We did it at the request of the American government - that we bend the knee to.

In the old days, we did favours like this for Britain. That's why we sent Canadians to die in  the Boer War in South Africa over a hundred years ago. That was an illegal war. And it had nothing to do with Canada. Now, we kiss the ass of Donald Trump. (as does Britain in its fading years.)

The U.S. has created an empire of Latin America. The purpose of it is to give American billionaires (and Canadian ones) cheap labour, dreadful poverty, lots and lots of dictators and a seemingly hopeless future. Thus the line-ups of the hungry and hopeless at the U.S. border. And thus increasing rebellion in the cities.

And the craziest thing is the American people get little out of this. The monster profits go to American and Canadian billionaires. And they don't even pay taxes to us. We have to pay for their wars.

http://rabble.ca/babble/international-news-and-politics/trade-unions-join-pharma-attack-democrats-over-bill-lower

I printed just the headline of this story because that's all we need.

Until the 1960s the CCF was a Canadian political party committed to the needs of the Canadian people. That was the party that gave us medicare (or forced the government to do it.) It was a party based on Christian principles of treating all people as equals and on meeting human needs - of whatever religion - or even no religion.

But, surprise, surprise, it had no money from Canada's wealthy. It was desperate. So it had to look to the union movement to get enough money for even a weak campaign. And it could get union support only by letting it set the rules. So they trimmed their policies, got union support, and called the result the NDP.

Alas! The NDP came to be a party with a union movement that had a lot of big business values in it. The prices of drugs are a scandal but ---the employees of drug companies belong to unions. The prices of drugs are a scandal for you and me. But they're quite nice for union employees.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/oct/31/human-rights-watch-report-links-cia-backed-units-to-afghanistan-abuses

The U.S. makes considerable U.S. of hired thugs in most of its wars (and even it's non-wars). So it's no surprise it's using them in Afghanistan. The interesting thing is that western news media very seldom admit that such gang-thugs exist. In fact, there's a thriving market for hired killers. They were the ones who murdered 200,000 innocent people (including priests and nuns) in Guatemala. But never a word appeared in our news media. And they don't march in American parades with a Trump calling them 'our gallant lads'.

And can we get less of this crap about how western armies fight for their country?  That's what we're told and what Americans are told. But that's seldom true. They're sent to murder innocent people so that billionaires can plunder their countries. That's why Canadian troops were sent to Korea in the 1950's, to Afghanistan, to train locals in Syria, to crush freedom in Haiti....

Our soldiers deserve respect.  They are not the evil ones. Those are our politicians and our billionaires who lie to them..

The U.S. was selling weapons and other war materials to Hitler until the Japanese attack at the very end of 1941. Britain came very close to becoming a dead duck. American billionaires didn't care. All they wanted was to steal Britain's middle east oil fields. And they did it.

Over some 300 years, the British murdered some 400,000,000  people to get control of their economies. And that was entirely to please  the very wealthy. Soldiers and sailors got pennies for their killing, and were simply dumped in the streets when they were no longer useful.

In the nineteenth century, the Irish had to live on potatoes. The good food that they grew went to British landowners. Then the potato crops collapsed. The Irish were starving. The British wealthy knew that. The British wealthy had food supplies in England and all over the world. But they preferred to let the Irish die.

Most British were the cheapest of labour with cities like Glasgow having the most vile slums in Europe. British children, most of them, went to work 15 hours a day, six days a week. And that happened at the age of six. It was also common practice in Canada and the U.S. And it was even worse for the children of the more foreign empire.

Capitalism has a vile record. In 1812 and again in 1865-6,the U.S. invaded Canada. Why? The American wealthy wanted to steal Canadian land and other resources. In fact, the U.S. still maintains an invasion plan of Canada. And I don't think it's because we're a threat to it.

Almost every war of the last hundreds of years was caused by the greed of the wealthy. Thus the Boer War. Thus the American empire of Latin America. Thus the rise of Hitler. He built his rise on hatred of the British wealthy who had destroyed the German economy.

Thus the American ambition in the 1950's to conquer China to plunder it as Britain had; thus the middle east wars; thus the Vietnam war; thus the Afghanistan war.......

The great threat to our survival is our own super-wealthy. And that's why I regret that the CCF was killed by the NDP unions connection.

And what are Quebec values?  Well, I lived as a Quebecker born into a family of the earliest French settlers. But I don't have Quebec values; my first language is  English. Religion? That's not a Quebec value any more. There was a time when one could get beaten up for not being French and Catholic. Today, you can get fired for being French Catholic - or Muslim.

Going further back, it was a Quebec value to have a Black or indigenous slave. And any of those were commonly  torn apart by horses cheered on by spectators.

It's an old Quebec value to deny housing to people of colour and orientals - and Muslims.

In fact, the outstanding value feature of the current Quebec government is its racism. It'll be a tough go for immigrants who will have to learn to have contempt for themselves.

Of  course. Killing doctors and nurses and patients - and children and babies - is what modern warfare is about. It began, perhaps, with Churchill's order in 1920 to bomb  undefended towns and villages. It was picked up Hitler, and then by us in the bombing of Dresden in WW2.  (Hitler was not unusual. He was typical of all the major powers.) And remember, neither Hiroshima nor Nagasaki was a military target. So the dead were almost all civilians right down to babies.

And so God  blesses America.

_________________________________________________________________

And a note to Albertans.

Canadians have no desire to destroy your jobs. In fact, if you check, you'll find us Canadians have not destroyed a single job in Alberta. All the firing has been done by your fading oil industry. And this is almost certain to continue. Canada has not done enough for Alberta; that's true. But it certainly has not been the killer of Alberta jobs. The oil industry is doing that. And it soon might dump you big time.

Corporations and governments get away with this by pointing fingers and building hatreds - and all the time they're really covering up what they're doing.

What the Canadian government should be doing is a huge programme to create jobs in Alberta. It's not doing that. It's letting the oil companies and the Alberta government take a lead in lies and hatred. And that will do no good to either side.

There is, for example, a huge job of cleaning up the oil fields. That could take a century or more, and it would require many thousands of workers. (No. The oil industry is not going to spend a penny to clean the oil mess it will leave.)

Ottawa should also take the lead in drawing more employment industries into Alberta.

It's quite right to criticize Ottawa for its inaction. But it's a big mistake to put any faith in oil corporations or the Conservatives who are their puppets. You can be sure they won't do a damn thing for you. Right now, you're following a sucker's game. And, oh, that will cost you.
______________________________________________________________

Meanwhile we all face an immediate danger. Capitalism has a long history of greed, mass murder, and plunder. In fact, that goes back before the term 'capitalism' was even invented. In the western world, it is now rising to the greatest levels of murder and plunder the world has ever known. Capitalists own the Liberals,  the Conservatives, the Republicans, and much, too much of the Democrats.

We live in a world in which Canadians and Americans and British and others are being impoverished. Yes, that's true. They are. And we're becoming impoverished because the super wealthy are robbing us blind. That's why our world is such a disordered place. That's why we spend money on wars to kill countries that object to our rule by billionaires.

Inevitably,  we have created a world that exists only to plunder and murder for the super rich. And even more inevitably, that will lead to the most dreadful crash this world has ever seen.

It's time to wake up.

Oct. 29:Uglier Days

I am beginning this on Sunday, Oct. 27. I have just listened to a speech to the UN General Assembly delivered by Donald Trump. What a liar! and what a fool! And it just spun out with almost every sentence a lie. (He even had a line there in defence of the National Rifle Association, saying allowing Americans to carry guns protects the nation!)

There was a lie in almost every sentence. His U.S. job figures showed rising prosperity. In fact, those rising figures don't exist. Unemployment is high. But the U.S., like Canada, does not count those who have been out of work for a long period.

He also lied about rising prosperity. The reverse is true - and has been for some time. Ditto for Canada. The rising prospriety is for the billionaires.

Socialism is evil, he says. Yeah. Medicare is evil. If people get sick we should just let them suffer and die. Kids are spoiled by public schooling. If they can't afford private schooling, they should just find jobs. Iran was evil because---it sells oil to Russia. Latin Americans at the border are evil. Yes. All those families are packing guns and drugs I'm sure.

The U.S. is protecting it's law-abiding ways. Yeah.  Like illegally invading countries all over the world    - Afghanistan, Iraq, Guatemala, drone bombers over uncounted and unreported countries, trade sanctions it has no right to employ all over the world

(U.S. job figures, U.S. prosperity, socialism evil   (medicare), Iran evil, Latin Americans at border evil, U.S. protecting its law-abiding ways.        yeah. like illegally invading countries all over the world (Afghanistan, Iraq, Guatemala...drone bombers over uncounted countries, trade sanctions it has no right to employ, invasions of at least 27 countries since 1945, most if not all of them illegal invasions..., U.S. support of brutal dictatorships in Latin America... In fact, it's creation of brutal dictatorships across that region.)

The U.S. creates democracies all over the world? Like hell it does. The 1940s democracy of Iran was destroyed by Britain and the U.S. who wanted a dictatorship - and imposed one in the Shah.  It took Iranians years to get democracy back.

His speech to a UN General Assembly was absurd. Did Americans believe him? At least 40% did.

The reality is that billionaires rule the U.S. Wars are not fought to benefit anybody but them. And they are ready to use mass murder to meet their greed.
America's "brave young men" do not serve the nation. They serve the billionaires. They are the ones who pick the wars - and pay off the politicians for helping them. Much the same is true in Canada. (Canada had NO legal right to invade Afghanistan.)

That has been true of all the empires that ever there were. But we are nearing a crisis in that. The ultra rich who pile up huge profits out of all this don't pay taxes. But they happily expect all the taxpayers to pay for them. And that is approaching crisis level.

It may be possible still to catch Trump's speech to the UN on Youtube.

America, we are told, is a land of Christian values. But it has a record of mass murder going back to it's origins. In "Indian" wars of the old days, and in modern wars since 1945, it has made a specialty of killing civilians, especially children and babies. It's also good at starving whole populations.

Meanwhile, it's Christian billionaires plunder even Americans and leave millions to live in squalor and even on the streets.

But that must be good because evangelical Christians lead in supporting it. Obviously, if Jesus were alive today He would be out killing and plundering like the rest of his faithful followers.

The Guardian has long had a reputation of being the most honest major newspaper in the world.  (And the most intelligent). That's quite a contrast with almost all the commercial news media of North America. The city I live in, Canada's capital, has a newspaper that's a disgrace even by North American standards.

Even those Canadians who give a damn about Latin America have no sense of the suffering that corporations have imposed on those people.  Low pay, brutal governments, lack of social services, plundering by capitalists (both American and, yes, Canadian). Under horrible conditions imposed by American billionaires and their Canadian puppet buddies, those people suffer terribly.

And note that Canadian governments and capitalists have long played a   role as kissup to American killers. Betcha never read about that in the Financial Post.

Our newspaper in Ottawa has only rarely mentioned Greta Thunberg. It's editorial on election day advised us to vote Conservative. I have no idea why.
In general, almost all North American news media are not to be trusted. Canada is particularly awful because of the Irving press in New Brunswick and the widespread ownership by National Post in the rest of the country.  However, it is quite possible the U.S. is even worse.

The U.S., for thirty years, kept murderous thugs in power in Cuba. In power, they murdered, tortured on a grand scale. Nobody even pretended this was a democracy. In fact, to a considerable degree, it was ruled by the U.S. mafia. The Cuban people suffered poverty, brutality.....

Get real. That's what empire's are about. And this one allowed American billionaires to plunder Cuba.

Now Trump is turning up the heat. The U.S. has never accepted the idea of Cubans controlling their own country - and it's now on a major campaign to get back to the good old days of plunder and   brutality.

Empires exist largely for one purpose. To give the wealthy of the ruling country the cheapest possible labour. That's what the British, French, Dutch, German  empires were all about. That's what the American empire is all about.

Most of the empires used slavery. Today, the U.S. wealthy rely on the semi slavery of regions like Latin America. And the Canadian wealthy happily join them.

And, like the U.S. and Canada, empires also exploit their own people as cheap labour with a shortage of even basic services. Thus the refusal of American governments to supply medicare to the American people, to keep millions in poverty and hopelessness.....

There is no money for most of the population. But there's enough to allow billionaires to pay no income taxes at all. And we wimps accept that.

In Montreal, the discrimination against anybody who looks different hangs like a dark cloud over the city. Even I, a white with roots that go back in Quebec to 1650, can never again feel at home in that city. (I sinned by having an English-speaking great grandfather. The U.S. was not really much interested in the war in Europe. When it did (very late) decide to join the war, it's main purpose was to steal the British Empire in China. That's what it's war on Japan was all about.

In fact, the only reason there could be a D Day landing is because Russia was tying up most of the German forces. (And that's why Russian losses in World War 2 were far the largest in the world at 24 million.) Without the Russians, the war with Hitler would have been lost.
So American lend-lease actually benefited the U.S. at least as much as it did Russia.

And then there's a big worry. The U.S. with the most expensive military in history, has not performed all that well since 1945. The Korean war, intended to give the U.S. a base to attack China, failed in that purpose. Vietnam, a relatively small and poor country and divided country overcame the U.S. with all its expensive aircraft and poison chemicals. In almost twenty years of fighting, the expensive U.S. military has not been able to match a divided Afghanistan though the opposition is small and poorly equipped.

The U.S. can certainly kill a large number of people. But it's weak on winning. And crashingly greedy and immoral in its treatment of Americans (--those Americans who aren't rich.)

Oct 24: very difficult time coming.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/exxon-shell-climate-change-court-new-york-attorney-general-litigation-documents-1.5331228

Is climate change happening? Scientists all over the world say it is. In some countries it has already caused tremendous damage - to people and to  architecture. Stopping it will require a massive change in society.

And that massive change is not happening. At some point, probably soon, it will be too late. But there is no sign of such a change happening.

At some point, probably very soon, Canadian governments will have to act - or we all pay the price for inaction.

But the many oil field workers in Alberta refuse to give up their weekly pay cheques. So what can Ottawa do?

For a start, it could give Albertans pay cheques for doing the job that has to be done - cleaning up the environmental mess that is the oil fields. This is going to be more than lifetime jobs. And you can bet that the oil industry has no intention of doing it.

The alternative?

The oil industry, with its U.S. connections, will turn to U.S. help, possibly military help. Don't kid yourself. The U.S. is our enemy in this.

By the way, if the billionaires of the oil industry want a pipeline to the coast, why are we paying for it?
_________________________________________________________________

Big news from New Brunswick which probably won't appear in most news media. The Irvings are the billionaire family of New Brunwick. Some time ago, the New Brunswick government (owned by the Irvings) asked for and got a large loan from the province. (This story probably won't appear in the N.B. newspapers. The Irvings own all of them.)

Recently, the New Brunswick government forgave it's seven million dollar Irving loan. Wasn't that sweet?

Oct. 22: Our Very Uncertaiin Future

This is a report largely ignored by the parties.

The Liberals, who have been remarkably inactive for the last four years, came in
first - but not as a majority. The Conservatives, the party that wallows even more than the Liberals  in it's kissing up to the very, very rich, were second. The most likely move now  would be a Liberal government supported by the leftist  (but not enough so) NDP.

The biggest danger now is the very large vote of francophone Quebecois who voted for a party with separatist views, the Bloc Quebecois.  There aim seems to be to create a Quebec which is technically a part of Canada, but really quite separate. They would not, for example, allow immigrants to go to Quebec (unless they spoke French.) Indeed, they would refuse to follow any law enacted by the federal government that they didn't like.

At the same time, they want to make life in Quebec as miserable as possible for it's anglophone population - a great many of whom have fled the province. Stores, hospitals, banks, virtually all institutions are not permitted to have English signs. As well, they are attacking Muslim immigrants because they're - Muslims, and the women (horrors) wear shawls.

Their short term goal is a Quebec only for French citizens. Until then, they will ignore their anglophone population except to pass further laws making it unlivable for them.

I was a Quebecer, and my family goes back to a (French) Jean Decarie who arrived in Quebec in 1650. Alas! About 1850, one of the Decaries married an English woman. So I now have to live outside Quebec.

It's called national pride.  It's also called racism.

A similar threat comes from Alberta, our oil province. It voted for the Conservative party which is in bed with the oil industry and with billionaires in general. They are furious that the rest of Canada takes the idea of climate change seriously. It is very possible that the Conservatives, encouraged by the oil industry, will attempt to separate Alberta from Canada to join the U.S. (Yes. The U.S. would help Alberta. The U.S. has been attacking Canada since it's revolution, and it still has exercises designed to attack Canada.)

We live in a world dominated by greed. There is no limit to what the super-rich demand. There is no limit to the greed and suffering they will impose on the rest of us.

A majority of Albertans support the super-rich because the super-rich demand an oil industry which will even more enrich them - and ordinary employees are dumb enough to pump  the world into destruction  to save their jobs which almost certainly will cease to exist  in our own time as climate change destroys them.

There is no significant group of scientists that feels oil is perfectly safe. The only ones who think so are politicians with no scientific qualifications - people like premier Doug Ford, the high school graduate who is premier of Ontario.

So Trump is killing children by starvation and neglect? Hey. It makes American billionaires happy. And, what the hell, those kids are quite likely to die by climate change, anyway.

Killing indigenous peoples was an old game for the post-Columbus settlers of the Americas. By 1690, what is now the U.S., had killed 90 to 95% of its native peoples. Later, when the U.S. took California, it reduced the native population of some 300,00 to 20,000. In this slaughter, equal attention was paid to killing men, women, children, babies. Odd. We never see western movies about this.

George Washington, when he was elected, opposed the slaughter of indigenous peoples. His purpose in leading the revolution was to expand American lands - and he originally hoped to do so peacefully. (Washington was perhaps the biggest land owner in the U.S.  Expansion was his life.)

However, Washington soon changed his mind as indigenous people insisted on keeping their own land.

Commonly, the American troops not only killed everyone from the elderly to babies. The dead were routinely skinned to make clothing. As well, soldiers routinely cut off body parts as souvenirs.

Many years later, another man would study the American slaughter of indigenous people. Adolf Hitler has a similar desire to kill Jews. He did kill over 4 million Jews. But that was well behind the American record. The U.S. was killing indigenous men, women, children, babies as late as 1923, almost overlapping with Hitler.

(Canada didn't kill as many because there weren't enough of them. But it did it's best. It's high point came only recently with the deaths of thousands of native children in residential schools.)

You won't find any of the above in high school history books.

Oct. 19: And now I await the Canadian election. Be still my heart.

The ugliest event in a very ugly election.

I am not a religious person. But I do not feel offended or threatened by Christians who wear crosses or by Jews who wear the  Star of David.. Or by Muslim women who wear shawls. I lived most of my life in Montreal. I was not offended or threatened by the crucifixes in government offices. I wasn't even offended by the bloody massive, steel crucifix that overlooks the city and can be seen for miles - and was paid for by Catholics, Protestants and Jews with their taxes.

So why did Quebec pass a law making it illegal to wear religious symbols while working in the civil service?

Simple.

Quebec,  like much of the rest of Canada, is profoundly racist. So the growth of its Muslim population in recent years has been very threatening.

But to attack Muslims would obviously be racist. Luckily, the Catholic church in Quebec crashed into the toilet decades ago. So - put the squeeze on  the Muslims, but do it while including Catholics and all other religions. Then Quebec isn't racist at all.

Sort of.

When I was born, Britain was seen as the greatest military power in the world.  But World War Two ended that.  And it's just as well it did, for as all empires do it  murdered and plundered with astonishing brutality  - and not only to the 'heathen' but to millions of the British people. In that respect, it is very similar to the American empire.

Britannia that ruled the waves may soon be three or even four  third-rate powers - England, Ireland, Scotland, maybe Wales.

https://countercurrents.org/2019/10/climate-change-a-people-centered-approach

The oil industry has been very successful in holding back any serious attempts to deal with climate change. In the current Canadian election, that means only the Green party promises to do  this on a serious level.

People amaze me. Virtually all the world's leading scientists are in agreement. We are heading for soaring death rates and then for extinction. All of us. And our response has been,  to say the least, casual. Since the warning began, we have done virtually nothing.

How much time do we really have? Nobody knows. It almost certainly won't be to the year 2001. By then the game will have been long over. Before that, we have a period of increasing damage.

But our oil billionaires see no problem. They and the politicians they buy don't even think about what is going to happen. None of them have an advanced scientific training. So they understand what's going on?

I suspect their politicians don't have a clue. It's hard to imagine a Trump or a Doug Ford or a Cheney having a clue about anything. But the monied people do.
And they are quite prepared to risk the lives of all of us on the planet. They must know the risks - and their strategy must be simply to make as much money out of this as possible before it become obvious that we are all in trouble.

Would leading business people do such a thing? Would they put us all at risk.
Read some history. Behind the politicians and national leaders of the last   2,000 years, the people  behind the empires of Egypt and Rome up to Britain and the U.S., the ones who encouraged and  gained through their thousands of years of slaughter have been the very rich.

https://countercurrents.org/2019/10/eminent-buddhist-leader-urges-halt-to-nuclear-weapons-and-killer-robots

No country's military, based on conventional weapons, and fight a major war without enormous loss on both sides. The U.S.,  since 1945, has fought only small enemies. And the record is not great. For twenty  years, the large and wealthy and heavily equipped U.S. has been fighting against the friendless people of a small part of Afghanistan. And the U.S., for its numbers and it expensive weaponry, has not been impressive.

It is probably not possible for any two major powers to be victorious in a conventional war against each other. That means they would need nuclear weapons. But the supply of them is so great it would destroy a very large part of the planet. It would almost certainly mean a world war - in a planet that has thousands of nuclear  weapons. To that we are adding killer robots, such as drones, at a tremendous pace.

In short, we are spending billions for a nuclear war that nobody would win.
