May31: more

I can't keep up with this. That's why this is my second extension of the May 30 blog on the U.S. riots.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/may/31/george-floyd-protests-reporters-targeted-by-police-and-crowds

Besides France, there are protests in Britain. And in Montreal, the city I lived most of my life in, there are demonstrations planned for today.

It's hard to know what is causing all this.    Britain has never been friendly to Blacks. Montreal has a long history of open discrimination and persecution. For most of the hockey history of Montreal, only one Black has ever been permitted to play for the Montreal Canadiens. And Montreal has always forced Blacks to live in ghettos and, until recently, has never permitted them to hold most jobs.

I don't know why Montreal, Britain and France have suddenly become egalitarians. Nor do I quite understand this sudden support of Blacks in the U.S. In all cases, this comes after a many centuries long abuse and discrimination against Blacks. And I suspect that many of the white demonstrators don't understand it either.

This is a huge change in attitude for those millions who have a long history of racism. I'm glad to see it. But I 'm wondering what it's really all about. (If I were an American billionaire, I'd be getting worried right now.)

May 31: a special addition to Saturday's blog

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlU8OOUMq94

even as I was writing yesterday's blog, things got terribly, terribly worse. Now, at least 30 American cities have been caught up in riots against racism - and, perhaps, even more against disillusionment and anger among the American people in general. Increasingly, we can expect to see an American government turning loose the army against it's own people. Indeed, at least one military tank has already entered the fight against an American city.

(As an aside, there have even been violent protests in France against the behaviour of the U.S. government.)

We are watching what could be, and maybe almost certainly is, the collapse of the U.S. nation. And it's not just about American racism. It's about the arrogance and power of the super rich. It's about the failure of America's two political parties to serve anybody but the super rich. It's about the failure of American democracy - a failure that actually began a long time ago with George Washington.

The great danger now is that the U.S., for all the wretchedness of it's two political parties, still has a huge nuclear arsenal. America's super rich might decide  that this is the time to use it on China and Russia. (But, based on it's performance since 1945, I don't think the American conventional military can even consider tackling those countries on it's own.)

Europe might well be rethinking it's relationship with the U.S. as the U.S. becomes the briefest super power in history.

Will the U.S. violence have echos in Canada? Quite possible - even likely.

May 30: Yes, things can get worse.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/live/2020/may/30/george-floyd-protests-minnesota-governor-riots-looting-police?page=with:block-5ed257bf8f08f5e37301165a#block-5ed257bf8f08f5e37301165a

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/live/2020/may/29/george-floyd-killing-protests-minneapolis-minnesota-us-twitter-donald-trump-latest-news-live

This is not just a couple of days rioting. It's one aspect, just one of many, of a U.S. that is collapsing. And it's not just a matter of the riots themselves. It's the impact of a president who generates hatreds, fears and divisions on the web and on twitter - in the absence of any philosophy of  anything. It's a growing collapse of long held beliefs of what American values are. It's one of a number of profound divisions that have developed in American life.

The U.S. is fast losing any sense of what it is that holds the U.S. together. The U.S. is breaking. Nor is there much reason to think the Democrats can change that.

I don't know where this is going. Civil war is possible. A whole scattering across the nation of hatreds and violence is possible - in fact, likely. It's possible that Trump or Biden will attempt to unite Americans by turning their anger into a nuclear war against China and Russia. And in that case, we can expect Canada to to be told to take some part in this world's biggest (and final) war.

They aren't paying attention. They never have and they never will. We all have to deal with them. We all have the right to control them.
_________________________________________________________________

Trump's style in dealing with problems is not to do anything but to give speeeches blaming somebody else for the problem. And he's now on a rampage of that.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/may/29/trump-who-china-white-house-us

His style is, rather than dealing with an issue, to launch a tirade of hatred and blame.   (If he really wants to China to back off from it's threat to Hong Kong, he might, instead, set an example by backing off his brutal treatment of Latin America - which is at least a bad as anything China is doing to Hong Kong.
The American people, of course, will condemn Hong Kong - and not even notice what they are doing to Latin America.

Very true. But the UK that murdered, plundered, enslaved China for over a century is scarcely the one to point fingers at this. And the U.S. that tried to do the same thing to China after World War Two is scarcely the one to do righteous posing.

Oh, and in 1945 the man who was determined to return to China for more murder and plunder was----Winston Churchill. When you're looking for evil in this world, take a good look at us people of the western world.

Notice how the devout in this photo are touching each other to connect to a Trump in whom they feel the power of God flowing to them. They truly believe that Trump is the Son of God returned to pronounce the end of days in which they and only they of all humanity will go to  heaven while everybody else - including the more traditional Christians - will go to hell. Only the evangelical Christians will rise to stand on clouds and spend billions of years - forever - praising God. What fun!

And notice the holiness of Trump who is God (or Jesus) come to us. Funny thing, though. Trump very rarely goes to any church, and has no qualities one could call Christian.

We created Israel (let's get real here) not to help the Jews - but to get rid of as many as possible of those Jews who lived in Europe, Britain, the U.S. and Canada.

But what's this stuff about Palestine being a Jewish land when, in fact, the Jews had lived there in peace with their Arab neighbours, and the Jews of Europe had been immigrants to Europe for centuries?

In fact, if it makes sense to create Palestine into a Jewish state, shouldn't we also give Canada and the U.S. back to the native peoples we stole them from - and send all the rest of us back where we  came from?

(Of course, it might be hard send us all back to the right places. Humans have been moving around for thousands of years.) So why should this planet covered in billions of people, but with only one nation  ordained by God - a god, incidentally, who is not recognized by most of the world.
________________________________________________________________

Canadians and American need to wake up. Our super rich own us. As millions of Canadians, Americans and others  drop into profound poverty, into starvation, into homelessness, our super rich have actually been getting spectacularly richer thanks to our governments who happily throw OUR money at them, while saying to hell with all the rest of us. That's very, very notably  true in Canada and the U.S. (where both parties are bumboys for the super rich) as well as in much of the world.

Our super rich are doing to us what Roman emperors did to their people, what kings and emperors have done to their people for thousands of years. They plunder us and our children. Oh, yes. They also let us die for them. That was true of the Romans. Over the centuries when Britain was murdering and plundering all over the world, the British soldiers, sailors got pennies for their killings, and the average British people got nothing but hunger and poverty.

It was the aristocracy who got the wealth of India and China and other colonies. It was the aristocracy who sent the children of the rest to work from the age of five or six in unspeakable filth and poverty.

We are now being plundered, abused, spit on by our billionaires who have actually been taking billions of our dollars as our world collapses, who take over control of our government puppets even as millions starve.

We have very little time while all this collapses. And we just sit here with our faces hanging out.

May 28:Bottom of the Barrel

THE PURPOSE OF THIS BLOG IS TO FIND THE NEWS THAT MOST OF OUR COMMERCIAL NEWS MEDIA  DON'T TELL US. THIS GOES BACK TO ABOUT 1870 WITH THE APPEARANCE OF THE CHEAP NEWSPAPER.

THEY WERE CHEAP FOR THE PUBLIC. BUT IT COST A LOT OF MONEY TO PUT OUT MASS   CIRCULATION OF THE NEWS. THAT MEANT ONLY THE ALREADY WEALTHY COULD OPERATE A NEWS BUSINESS.

THE RESULT WAS NEWSPAPERS VERY FRIENDLY TO THE VERY WEALTHY, AND AT A TIME WHEN CAPITALISM HAD BECOME THE DARLING OF  THE VERY WEALTHY.  AN EARLY  AND WEALTHY AMERICAN NEWSPAPER OWNER CREATED A FALSE WAR WITH CUBA IN 1900 SO THAT WEALTHY AMERICANS COULD PLUNDER THAT NATION FOR OVER FIFTY YEARS. AND THAT SOON LED TO THE NON-STOP AMERICAN WARS THAT ARE STILL THE HORROR OF LIFE IN LATIN  AMERICA. IT ALSO LED TO THE MASS SLAUGHTER OF PHILIPINOS - AND NEARLY TO A WAR WITH CANADA.

IT HAPPENED IN CANADA, TOO. AND IN OTHER COUNTRIES. THE PRESS BECAME THE PROPAGANDA AGENCY FOR ALMOST 150 YEARS OF MURDER AND PLUNDER. AND, OH, THERE ARE FEW, VERY FEW, HONEST COMMERCIAL NEWS MEDIA TODAY.

THAT'S WHY I CREATED THIS BLOG -TO BRING HONEST AND INTELLIGENT NEWS MEDIA TO AS MANY AS I CAN.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I taught for some time at Shue Yan University in Hong Kong. Loved it. I loved the city. I loved the city and the people....oh - there was a downside. It was called poverty. At night one could see it stretching for miles in solid rows with families, including babies, sleeping on cardboard and under stairways. Parks might have wire cages each large enough to hold one person, with three or four cages stacked together.

Well, of course. When I was there, Hong Kong was still under the arrogant, brutal, murderous rule of the British who then had a stranglehold on Hong Kong, though kicked out of China in the early 1940s Over a period of well over a century, the British ruled with an open contempt for the Chinese, a contempt shared by lesser killers and plunderers of China - like Germany and the U.S. When I was working in Hong Kong, things were brightening as it became obvious the British were going to have to leave.

Now, the U.S. is showing a passionate regard for Hong Kong. Trump has come very, very close to announcing his love for Hong Kong and his desire to humble China. And if he follows that, the result would be the destruction of Hong Kong.

His motives really don't have a lot to do with Hong Kong. The U.S., after World War Two, was hyped up with a divine passion to rule the world. But now the U.S. is rapidly losing ground. China is becoming, perhaps has become, the world's leading power. And that has consequences for the U.S. armed forces.

Despite all their parades and cheers and wealth, the U.S. military has actually been pretty feeble on many occasions since World War Two. Think Vietnam. Think Afghanistan. The U.S. army could roll over today's China? Not bloody likely.

Using the excuse of China's treatment of Hong Kong, it is possible, very possible, that Trump or the Democrats in response to the demands of their billionaire owners will go to war with China (and with Hong Kong as the excuse). And, for the U.S., that would have to be a nuclear war which, incidentally, would probably include the destruction of Hong Kong.

(Oh, in addition to the thousands of nuclear weapons owned by the U.S., China, and Russia, we then would also see them turned loose by India, Pakistan, Britain, Israel against people they don't like. We are at one hell of a dangerous edge.) Oh,
in addition to thousands of nuclear bombs going off, that might create dreadful conditions even those parts of the world that don't get bombed. Like us.

What should be done to help Hong Kong is to do what we should have done in 1945. We should have agreed then to negotiate and en to all wars. But we didn't.
The result was a U.S. that ran wild in it's fever to rule the world.

Can we go back to 1945? Can we start again? I think we could. And in the process we could work out a livable solution for Hong Kong. But to do that, we in the western world would have to get rid of our current rule by billionaire capitalists, something that Donald Trump and Joe Biden would never dream of.

________________________________________________________________

https://www.voltairenet.org/article209925.html
______________________________________________________________

Let's get real - and remember the range of problems that have hit us.
The Chinese treatment of Hong Kong is dreadful. No doubt about that.
The British, German, Chinese and American treatment of Hong Kong and all of China was worse, much worse, and it lasted over a century.France was as brutal in dealing with French Indo-China. At the end it was the U.S. that inflicted poverty and brutality   on   French Indo-China (as Vietnam). For hundreds of years, our God's British murdered, plundered, deliberately starved over 400 million people. For two thousand years and more, the west has been murdering, plundering, enslaving encountable millions. And western nations also murdered, starved. enslaved their own people. Both the U.S. and Britain have quite a record of that.

The U.S, by the way has, for a horrible 120 years, inflicted worse horror on Latin America than China is inflicting on Hong Kong.

As always - from the start thousands of years ago - we have also enslaved, starved, murdered our own people. Today, as Americans and Canadians are reduced to poverty (a standard feature of any human society I have ever heard of) American and Canadian billionaires are still  making huge profits from billions of dollars of our money that our billionaires get from our political parties and governments. This is our money that we hand over to them. We give them billions for no reason and the amount that we give has been rising at a tremendous rate. This is  happening even as we ordinary people are suffering. In just the last few months, the super rich of Canada and the U.S. have been given hundreds of billions of dollars - for   ????

As a bonus they are also allowed to keep billions that should have been paid in income tax...oh, yes, and they also are allowed to hide more billions in their own private hiding places. Nobody  (except them) knows how much money this is - but it is certainly so many billions that it would dramatically put an end to poverty in North America at least.

Since they also own both American parties as well as  Canada's parties. They own us - and they have made it clear they don't give a damn about us or our children.

We, and many other nations, are millions upon millions of wimps. And we are allowing the super wealthy to destroy us as they always have destroyed wimps for thousands of years. Bill Gates a leading world billionaire, has now been given civic permission to redesign the public schools of New York. His expertise in this?  None. His aim? To privatize the schools so they can be run for the profit of - Bill Gates. And the children? Who gives a damn?

I really don't understand humans. Maybe we are just naturally wimps to be tramped on by our masters.

Are the Chinese murderous exploiters? Yes. And so are our capitalists. ---probably even more so. And they will destroy us even as we stand there with our faces hanging out.

We have accepted a system that will destroy us - and sooner rather than later.

This world has a long way to go if it is to survive it's passion for violence. The U.S. plundering and mass murder in the middle east and in Latin America can only make this a more evil world. The same is true of China's violence against Hong Kong. In 1945, we had to learn how to deal with each other in humane ways. But we didn't do it. On the contrary, we have had 75 years of war and rage. We can't possibly survive that.

We could without loss bring freedom and cooperation to this world. The U.S. could do it to Latin America and the Middle East. China could do it to Hong Kong.

The alternative? International collapse. And we're close to it.

But rejoice. Some people have been doing well. American  billionaires have lately been given over 400 billion tax-free dollars (out of the taxes of ordinary Americans.) In another category, Canadian billionaires have been given at least 300 billion, starting small in 1958 and getting bigger every year to put in secret banks for billionaires. (That's not counting their many other gifts from our governments.) Millions of underfed chldren will rejoice.)

We call it capitalism. But this greed and this suffering for all the rest of us has been going on for thousands of years. And it's getting worst - much, much worse.

Can we and our planet survive this celebration of greed that we call capitalism?

No.

This is pure politics. It's a play for the evangelicals, many of whom have been ignoring the law and are cramming their churches anyway. Of course. Their concept of religion focusses on one thing - getting themselves into heaven while the rest of us roast in hell. In their viewew, the only point of religion is getting into heaven and to hell with the rest of us.

Does Trump go to any church at all? (very rarely. But he is, litterally their God.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One boring night, I watched a film on TV. It was a western movie, largely set in a tavern where cowboys stood and sat around, all wearing two guns,  and occasionally shooting into the roof or into each other.

It was a perfect symbol of all the myths of U.S. history.

Cowboys did not run around with two guns shooting each other up. And they most certainly were not allowed into taverns with guns. In fact, any cowboy going into a town had to turn his gun in at the sheriff's office. Those celebrated shoot-outs never happened. Indeed, it was far more dangerous to walk down a street in an eastern city like New York than in a western cowtown.

And unlike the movies image, a large minority of cowboys were black. Of course.  They were cheap labour. But you don't see many of them in those western movies and almost never in those gun-totin' scenes in taverns.

But our image of the west remains one of heavily armed cowboys and quick draws.

In the same way, our idea of much of the history of the U.S. and Canada is an illusion.

I'm a Canadian historian. I've read a good deal of our military history. It's heavy on the valour and the glory, much less so on what our wars have really been about. In the same way, much of the popular understanding of American history is bunk.

But Americans and Canadians (and many other nations) live in a bunk world of who we are and who we have been. For a start, the U.S. did not enter World War Two to help Britain. It enered to plunder the British Empire. The U.S. has murdered and plundered all over Latin America for 120 years. That was not glorious. It was murderous, as cruel as anything Hitler did, and it still goes on.

But we still make decisions on the basis of what we think we are and what we think we did.

Climate change is happening. Oil is a major cause of this. The Canadian government has agreed with this. But it refuses to take action against an Alberta that has allowed itself to become the servant of oil even as it's oil resources are dying. Worse, the Canadian government has made the rest of us pay billions of dollars (to American billionaires) to keep it's outdated oil industry  to survive even as we watch it dying. (And, of course, those billlions go into the pockets of American billionaires.

Henry Ford was a notorious hater of Jews, and a great admirer of Hitler. Years ago when the world and I were young, Jewish friends told me a joke about Ford.

Ford lived in a great mansion. One day, a Jew bought the land next door. He then built a mansion that was a perfect copy of Ford's. One day Ford said,"you've really hit the big time. Your place is just as nice as mine."

"Oh, no", said the Jew.."Mine is much nicer than yours"

"Nonsense, it's just like mine."

"Oh no",said the Jew. "mine is much better. I don't have a Jew living next door to me."

Trump is in no way a Christian person. But a great deal of his followers are evangelical Christians. I know them well. Unlike the regular Christian churches (that are dying), evangelicals are thriving.

What is their appeal? For one, they specialize in preachers who convey happiness and joy at the prospect of dying. (They are much less interested in the teaching of Jesus because it was about life on earth - and that's Yuki-poo.) Their primary interest is in dying and going to heaven, there to stand on clouds among millions of other evangelicals to sing the praises of God for - oh forever - millions and millions of years doing nothing but praising God.

(You  will notice some pictures of them in which they are touching Trump's arms and shoulders. That is because they believe in him as either Jesus (or God) come to save ONLY them.)

Yes. These people are real nutbars.

I once attended many of their services. Cheerful sermons were a rule. Smiling congregations were a rule. Faked line-ups were common, pumping up the faithful (with eyes closed) to walk up to the altar. "Yes. Bless you madam. Come this way sir." Early in this,  there was no movement, just a congregation with it's eyes closed. But, eventually, some would line up to be blessed. And then they will all be allowed to open their eyes.)

It was all entertainment (the preacher crawling up the aisle with a sack on his shoulder - carrying his sins.) It was all cheery.

Yes. Evangelicals are nutbars, and Trump is a religious fraud. But they are a large part of the U.S population.

It is very possible that after the next election, whether a win or lose for Trump, that the nutbars will trigger serious violence in much of the U.S. - perhaps with the very active cooperation of groups like the gun lobby.

Alas! we also have nutbars in Canada.

The U.S. is, by far, the world's biggest salesman of weapons to peace-loving allies like Saudi Arabia. And, even as Americans die in hunger and homelessness, the U.S. leades the world in it's production of weapons so it can  shoot millions who, in most of the world, can't shoot back. Why, it is quite possible that some will go to American shoulders to shoot American people.  This is a system heading for a crash.

In a cutest way it is called free enterprise. That sounds nice -free and enterprise.
Iin a coarser way,  it is called capitalism. Those who benefit from it say that it's a system that creates prosperity.

In fact, though,  it's simply the old system of the Roman Empire. Yhr emporor dolled out rewards to his aristocrasy and with lots and lots just for the emperor.

And the people of Rome?

They got nothing. In their desperation and hunger the people of Rome would select members of the moneyed class to gather pennies for errands for them.
And when when a member of this class died, he or she was simply dumped into a monster pit where thousaands of the dead turned into  a sort of gel.

The kings and queens of Europe were much the same. And, despite all it's foofaraw, capitalism is really much the same.

It makes us rich? No. In recent months. American capitalists  have pocketed some 360 billions of dollars even as millions of us peasantry struggle to survive on low salaries or no salaries at all. In the U.S., capitalist have deprived most people of the ability to get medical care.

As well, Canadian and American capitalists, in the guise of patriotism, use their "Roman mob" to fight and die to make capitalists richer. (The rest us peasantry of course have to pay the cost of those wars because the super rich pay little to no taxes.)

Free enterprise or capitalism, call it what you will, has been the world's most destructive force for thousands of years. And it never benefits us because that's not what it's designed to do.

In the western world, this situation could well create massive suffering and violence. (In rhe U.S., it may be more likely to take the form of severe violence, varying in different parts of the country. (Americans are suffering now. But it could soon be very violent in a nation that has no general or united sense of direction. Nor will it be useful violence since it will give status to the most violent and destructive - the gun nuts, the racists, and, yes, the evangelicals.

And the only possible sources of government are two political parties, both of them owned by the very rich - under a president who is very dangerously mentally ill with an opponent to him who is corrupt and stupid.

We  could be in for very dangerous times.

This is the point I was making in my last blog. The U.S. is the major Nazi state of our time. In that it is the successor to the evils of the British Empire. And Canada now obeys the murderous U.S. as it once obeyed the murderous British Empire.

And running through all of this is the murderous world of Capitalism.

________________________________________________________________

The end of this could be far worse than what it now is. The U.S. is profoundly divided with consequences that could be very severe indeed. Added to that is that America's capitalists can see the end of their world leadership coming soon. And that will lead them to a desperate surge of world violence - like a nuclear war.

This is very saddening. I taught in Hong Kong for two summers. It had a lot wrong with it - most of the wrong was carried out by it's  British rulers. When the British left Hong Kong but gave Hong Kong  a good deal of independence,  that looked good. Alas, China couldn't leave good things alone.

So Hong Kong is now a part of China. It is a part of China with no freedom at all. That was quite unnecessarily brutal and perhaps even as dreadful as British rule. I often think, sadly, of the students I  taught there.

I include the next item only because it is so silly it reminds me of the newspapers I read on a visit to Texas. Banning guns makes sense because it is not possible to have a system in which only "trained and responsible" people would buy guns. For that matter, in my gun nut years I knew many other gun nuts who were responsible on the range - but damn fools away from it. (And sometime I was one of them.)

Big money has a big influence in most universities. I learned  that in my years of teaching in them. The lesson came home to me when I was summoned to a meeting of the Board of Governors. (These are boards of people from outside the universities - typically, people from the world of business, and almost always dominated by some very, very wealthy people.)

They wanted me to become the president of  the university. When I went to the meeting of the board, I was overwhelmed by a squadron of lawyers with wonderful promises of how much money I'd make. It was exciting. But....yeah....

It was obvious that the real power was to be in the hands of the governors - none of whom had any training in education. I would be just a front. (Too bad. I could have used that money.)

So they dropped me and hired a more agreeable person. Not surprisingly, the new president hugely expanded and enhanced the School of Business Studies. What that university needed is what most universities need - training in how to teach. Think of it - all those thousands and thousands of professors who have no teacher training whatever. Well, except for the small number who are professors of education.

The Heart of the Mayan World is a film that is both charming and dismaying.
(You can get it on Netflix.) I strongly advise you take a look at it if you want to understand how the leading western powers have been wretched and as evil as Hitler over the last several hundred years. No - the film doesn't show this. So here's what you need to get a whole meaning out of it.

In the 1950s into the 1980s and beyond, the U.S. (represented at first by George Bush Sr.) hired an international army of thugs to invade and murder at least 200,000 in Guatemala. This was and is "The Heart of the Mayan World".  In the film, it is a beautiful, historic and very Christian land.

So it was.

And the Christians were the targets of GeorgeBush's killers. They made a specialty of killing priests, nuns (lots and lots of nuns) and missionaries. (One of those missionaries was a Canadian whose body, years later, was buried near his home in New Brunswick.) This story of a deliberate mass murder of Christians was NEVER reported by any American or Canadian news medium though the war lastrf for many years. The only report of it I have ever found is a film by National Film Board of Canada.

This is what the U.S. (stand up, stand up for Jesus) has been doing all over Latin American for 120 years. (With Canada helping out in Haiti while our press goes clap, clap.)

The Nazis are still with us. And we are them. And for centuries, Britain, France, Spain, The Netherlands, and the U.S. have been even worse than Hitler all over the world.
__________________________________________________________________

Figures for Canada would not be much different.

In many, many years and wars and many, many millions of deaths and slavery and massive poverty, we haven't learned. Capitalism is one hell of a destructive force.
It has not served most of us for centuries - and it never will.

Though our news media don't have much to say about it, Canada's Liberals and Conservatives - and America's Republicans and the majority of its Democrats are servants of the super rich. They still are even as millions now live in poverty.

________________________________________________________________

In 1945, we has to remake the world into one of friendship and helpfulness. Instead, we made it a world of hatreds. The hatreds. lately were encouraged particularly by the U.S. to satisfy it's unsatisfiable super rich. And they were products of Europe's most greedy and murderous. They were and are the people we call 'capitalists'. In the U.S., these are the people who have, just in recent months, actually raised their income by 343 billion dollars evem as millions of American drop into poverty.

That has been the pattern, even before capitalism, for almost every society I have ever heard of. We have always sent off millions to die or to live in deep poverty.
And we have very little time to change that now.

(As I write this, I think of Raoul Leger who was ignored by most Canadian and all American news outlets. even in New Brunswick where he now lies in his grave.
The New Brunswick news media have never mentioned him. Of course not. The newspapers of New Brunswick - and the people of New Brunswick - are owned by the Irvings, and the Irvings, in their massive greed and arrogance,  own the people of New Brunswick.

May 19: Evil

Sorry for my absences. I've had computer problems which - I hope - are solved.
In the break time, I thought I should write just this one blog edition, one with no look at the news, but with a look at the reality this world has never faced.
(And I'm afraid many readers will not like this.)

Our illusion? We are good. Other countries are evil. Think of all the wars you have read about. Have Britain or the U.S. ever been criticized in our news media? In fact, we should be reading about how Canadians are selling weapons to kill chldren and babies in Yemen. (Yes. They are.)

In every war I have ever read of, we were good in our news media. The enemy was always evil. Hitler, therefore, was evil.
We make our judgements based on the notion that we are good and our enemies are evil.

And that's why we are constantly misled by our news media. Yes. The Hitler of 1939 was evil. But even that was pretty tame stuff compared to our evil. Yes. We are the Naziis of our time - and we always have been. In fact, we have been worse than Hitler. But that's not the news we get.

The British Empire murdered over 400 million people. Hitler came nowhere close to that. The mass murder was for the  benefit of the British upper class who murdered, tortured, starved, enslaved countries like  India and China. It was a scale of slaughter that we forget. That's what the Boer War was about as Britain slaughtered Dutch settlers and Black Africans so that British billionaires could plunder the South Africa gold mines.

Britain invited Canada to join.  Why? Canadians had nothing to gain in this. But, for that matter, most British had nothing to gain, either. But the British won us with babble about "serving the King".... And so Canadians died to fight a war that had nothing to do with Canada. Why did the British ask them?

That was because it knew World War One was coming. And Britain wanted Canadian volunteers to continue their "God bless the king" idiocy in that war.

There was nothing noble about it. That's how we set ourselves up to fight two wars that had nothing to do with us.

Does that behaviour tell you nothing about how much the British government of the period fooled Canadians into dying for a king? And the Canadian government and Canada's upper class knew what this was really about. But they
cheered for the King as they sent others to die.

In 1904, Canada asked Britain to help it with the U.S. threat to Canada. Britain told Canada to get lost. The wealthy exist only to better themselves.

Was the Hitler of the 1930s evil? You bet. But we kept up with his evil. Hitler was our buddy or,  at least, the buddy of our wealthy. When Hitler began his mass murder of Jews, our government knew about it. And they didn't give a damn. Jews who escaped Hitler, even into the war years, were refused by Britain, the  U.S. and Canada and sent back to certain death. That even included children.
Late in the war, when the death camps became news, our leaders got all indignant. And that was bullshit. They had known about this all the time.

As for the creation of Israel? That had nothing to do with sympathy for Jews. It was a way for Britain, the U.S., and Canada to get rid of them including many of their own Jews. And they didn't even think about the Gypsy death camps. Who cared?

Our behaviour in World War Two was little different from that of Hitler.  (World War Two,  by the way, was not fought by us because Hitler was evil. It was fought to please our English masters. The English went to war
because Germany was an economic threat to it. Hitler had rebuilt the German economy to challenge the British. That is what Churchill could not tolerate. A high level aristocrat, Churchill was a servant of high level aristocrats. He couldn't have cared less about the needs of the British people. And he had his own, long history of mass murder and plunder, especially in India where he happily killed millions and then millions more by starvation. Ditto in the middle east.

Churchill had spent his life as a killer for the very rich.

And we Canadians? We believed in the crap our news media told us, and thousands of Canadians died because of that.

No. World War Two was not because Hitler was evil. It was because people like Churchill were evil too. Indeed, the British people knew this. That's why, shortly before the end of the war, they kicked Churchill out in an election. They knew they would never get anything out of him. Medicare, for example, came AFTER dumping Churchill.

Oh! The U.S. Notice how long it took for it to enter the war. When it did enter, It was not because Hitler was evil - and it certainly was not because the U.S cared about Jews or Europeans. It was because it wanted to get control of the British oil fields in the middle east, and to get control of British holdings, like China, in the Far East.

But none of the above made it into our news media. It's important to understand this because it tells us, or should tell us,  that most of our wars are fought to make billionaires richer. Forget all that bilge about democracy and good guys and bad guys.

It's important to know this because, for example, World Wars one and two were both fought to benefit the super wealthy. No other reason. And that's why almost all wars throughout history have been fought. That's why we Christians volunteer to commit murder.

Who are the Hitlers of our time? Well, the biggest  (but fading) are American super wealthy. The rest of us? Well, like the Germans of the two world wars, we believe the nonsense we are told. In effect, we become Naziis.

You cannot learn anything if you simply believe the utter crap that most of our news media and our leading politicians spill. Then. we become the horrors that so many of our politicians and billionaires want us to be. We become the Naziis who cheered Hitler. Somehow, we have to learn to understand that our wealthy and their political friends are quite eager for us to believe their vicious lies.

A new wrinkle was added late in World War Two. The allied powers bombed the German city of Dresden. That was odd. Dresden was not a leading target in the war. Most of it's people were, by far, civilians - men, women, and children.

So why did we bomb them?

Because they were men, women and children. This added a powerful terror to the war. It also became a major weapon for the U.S. to the present day. The U.S. has made it a point to bomb civilians, men, women and children, in all it's wars - North Korea, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Yemen - and Canadian business has joined in the fun. Poison chemicals are used freely, and there have been lots of pictures of children, screaming and covered in flames, pictures of babies blown to pieces, of civilians far outnumbering the military as targets. For the U.S.,  that's been common in Yemen, Venezuela, Iran. It's also been murdering Cubans of all ages for 70 years.

Onward, Christian soldiers?

Americans are the leaders in indiscrimate killing and/or starving millions of innocent people - babies, elderly, women, men all over the world. I'm not at all sure the world has ever seen anything as savage as this in history. And Canada takes part by kissing American asses. Latin America is many examples of this.

Then, as a final touch, we got nuclear bombs that obliterate men, women and children in whole cities. And Trump is openly threatening just such a war on China - a war that would almost certainly include Russia.

The United States of today is probably the most evil and destructive power in history.  And we Canadians (and the British) have happily joined with the Americans.

So who is evil? We are. We are part of what looks like the destruction and evil of the whole world. We are the Hitler lovers of our time. We are the Naziis.
Until we realize that, we have no hope for survival. But until we understand our mistakes, we will continue to be just like those Germans who worshipped Hitler.

We are evil. We have to understand that. We have created a monied class that is as evil as anything Hitler designed.

We should have developed something to control this in 1945. But we didn't. Instead, our billionaires created a more evil and destructive world, one that runs out of control.

Until we understand all this, we will not understand how evil it all is. And time is very short.

Who is evil in the world? We are. And we are letting our leaders make us even more evil.

May 12: Not a good day.

https://www.worldvision.ca/about-us/media-centre/canadas-child-labour-problem

And no, it's not just China that does it. It's done by our most highly respected capitalists in the western world with U.S.capitalists currently the leaders. One of the most brutal of such countries was Britain until well into the twentieth century. The British Empire of course exploited hundreds of millions of children as colonial labour at starvation wages and death by accidents - and did it until is was kicked out in World War 2.

We did the same to young workers in Britain, the U.S. and Canada into the twentieth century, . British children were sent down chimneys to clean them. In Ontario in the late nineteenth century, a boy working on a dangerous piece of machinery lost an arm when the machinery went wrong. He was fired instantly, and put out of the factory to get home, somehow, on his own.

Most of our news media rarely bothered with reporting all this. Of course not. The owners of all our major news media have been of the same social class - and frequently have been the same people - as the employers of the poor.

We've been starving people to death for centuries - and that's especially true of the years starting with Columbus and then the British Empire and now it's love-child, the U.S.

And Trudeau, too,  is kissing Canada's oil bums.

The U.S. has been in relative decline for almost thirty years. Today, it cannot fight a conventional war against, say, Russia and China. Any war, as a desperate last throw would now have to nuclear.

Such a war would kill hundreds of millions, possibly a billion or more. And, by the nature of such a war the heaviest casualties by far would be civilians and children. (But that's okay. For many years now - in fact, going all the way back to George Washington and the Indian wars, American soldiers have been getting medals for killing civilians and children.. That's not sarcasm. That's reality.)

And voting for Democrats won't help. Democrats, like Republicans, are owned by the same billionaires, and have the same policies.

And it's not much different for Canada's billionaires. Of course, they too own two political parties - the Liberals and the Conservatives.

When I was fifteen, I read Winston Churchill's history of Britain. It was a magnificent read. He was a great writer.

But, as I would later discover, he was not a great man.

He was born into the British aristocracy and it's  values. That meant he had utter contempt for the rest of the world, including the mass of the British people. Everything he did was to benefit the upper class. And in war? He was a very happy killer and abuser of civilians all over the British Empire.

But, to this day, he maintains a high standing in the minds of most people.

Think this would have happened if the U.S. had killed Castro and kept control of Cuba?

I'm ending this blot for teocay because I'm running late as a result of computer problems. But there are a couple of more points we should be thinking about.

One concerns a news story in a paper called Financial Post. It's one of Canada's leading dailies. And it recently had a story headed      "Industry Welcomes Aid for Hard- Hit Large Firms."

The Canadian government has been giving them billions of dollars -  gifts from all of us to corporations (including oil) owned by billionaires who haven't paid income tax - or most other taxes     - for years. In addition to the legal savings they get, they also, almost certainly illegally, hide billions of dollars in secret bank accounts. Meanwhile, many, many millions of Canadians, Americans, British...face  years of poverty and hunger.

Common sense should tell us we cannot survive this form of capitalism.

But The Financial Post doesn't mention any of that. Oh, those 'hard-hit large firms"...that's the whole story. Bless their little hearts. And that's a typical reaction to express how happy we all feel that billionaires will get more help from----the rest of us.

And that's typical of our news media. The billionaires who walk off with our money don't get criticized by most of our news media.  Of course not. The billionaires own most of our news media.
And that sort of propaganda is typical of their idea of news. Most of us don't get news  - just propaganda.

And the millions of children who are going hungry? Who gives a damn?

And there's an important footnote to this. These same billionaires also own the Democrats and Republicans in the U.S., and the Liberals and Conservatives in Canada. That's why Prime Minister Trudeau is so concerned about their welfare.  That's why the Conservative government slobbers all over the super rich.

The governments of the U.S., Canada, Britain and others have for years been the servants of the rich.
And the future?

Unless we get a real democracy, there is no future.
