The ugly relaity

 It was some 20 years ago that Canada obeyed a U.S. request  (order) to destroy democracy in Haiti. Canada sent troops and police, to complete the destruction of Haitian freedom

Funny thing. If you look at sites on the web, you get the impression that Canada was doing good by destroying democracy in Haiti, and by killing people who refused to obey.

It never, in any serious and honest way, got into the Canadian news media what was going on. And that tells you a lot about the Canadian news media.

Our Canadian troops and police placed thugs, gangsters, and American agents in power. And so one of the few Latin American countries to achieve democracy  saw it all collapse - and life became a horror.

This is not unusual. Canadian troops have frequently kissed the asses of American billionaires - and Canadian billionaires have joined the parade. Think, for example, of the Korean War, Afghanistan, Syria.....

And the Canadian Legion says clap, clap clap...... 

This is one hell of a serious matter. The U.S. is the most murderous, most savage, most brutal country in the world.Special targets for U.S. forces are most horribly represented by the mass murder of children and babies in Yemen.

The attack on  Korea was a farce. The vicious nation -  the one the US defended - was South Korea - a nation of corrupt government with it's roots in the Japanese occupation.For Canada to send troops to save South Korea was a farce. But the Canadian Legion backed our entry into that war - and Canadians died in a war that had nothing to do with Canada.

More recently, the U.S. overthrew the elected government of a democratic Haiti, and installed a murderous dictatorship. It then told Canada to take over control of  Haiti, maintain the dictatorship, murder anybody who got in the way..... That's why Haiti today is a horror pit being plundered by American capitalists.

And the Legion? It said clap, clap, clap.

Ever since 1949, the U.S. has been the world's most murderous nation. It's deliberately starving people, especially  as in the horror that is Yemen. I don't know how many countries it's invaded. The last figure I saw was for some 79 invasions way back in the early 1990's. They stole the British oil fields in Africa  shortly after World War 2. Latin America has been a U.S. horror show for over a hundred years. And Guantanamo has been just one of it's torture centres.

Canada has sent it's soldiers to die in wars designed to plunder the whole world for American billionaires. Think, for example, of  Afghanistan, and we are now bracing ourselves for a war with China which, incidentally, has not attacked anybody in the last couple of centuries - just territories that the western powers had stolen long ago.

That war, incidentally, will be nuclear - using the latest horrors of that weapon. And it will certainly go out of control from  the start.

Oh, and the U.S. will tell Canada to take part. And the Canadian Legion will say clap, clap, clap.

And that is Canada's weak spot - the Canadian Legion.

Several news outlets that one usually looks at for honesty carried the story that China is now killing some of  the Uighurs in China. The story has also  appeared in the regular press. Typical was The Guardian (for March 26). It carried a story by a British peer which called on the world to save the Uighurs.

I can agree with saving them. But the righteousness of the story was a bit much. For centuries, the British were the world's murderers, with people like Churchill murdering millions. The Empire's score at the end was more than 400 million murdered to satisfy the greed of British capitalists.

The U.S. as been a mass  murderer from the start. Nobody knows how many of America's native people were murdered. And, since 1900, the U.S. has starved, murdered, impoverished almost the whole population of Latin America - and  it has murdered all over the middle east  to meet the greed of American capitalists. Nobody knows how many millions the U.S. has starved and murdered (especially children) since 1949.                                                                               

We live in a world of massive greed and murder.

Oh, but aren't those Chinese evil?

Funny. We never hear much about Canada's richest and greediest.

Top dog is David Thomson at 41.4 billion. Doesn't that make you proud?

Then there's Joseph Tsai at 14,36 billion. And so on for some 25 billionaires. Many of them own or control our news media. And that's not a pretty sight.  It's a major reason why we cannot trust our news media.  In New Brunswick, it's obvious because the Irving family,  the biggest noise (and destroyer) of the province is the Irvings - who also own the newspapers. The leaves the province wide open to the tremendous destruction the Irvings are creating all over that province. They also suck  the province dry every year to give them huge sums.

This handful of billionaires owns the Liberals and the Conservatives of Canada. That's because they pay the campaign funds for those two parties. It's more obvious of course in a sinkhole like Alberta. But it's true of all Liberals and Conservatives in Canada.

Gee, I wonder if our billionaires have been cashing in with their American friends in plundering Latin America. I wonder if that's why we sent army troops and police to destroy democracy in Haiti some twenty years ago.

Ever wonder why thousands of Latin American children have been rushing to the American border? No, it's not because they want to be Americans. It's because American  and, probably, Canadian billionaires have made their lives impossible. 

As I considered that, I came across an announcement by president Biden. He intends to deal with the 30 some thousand Latin American children  gathered at the American border. He's going to get them all beds while he decides what to do. How thoughtful.

But why are these thousands of children fleeing their homes? That's because for over a century, super rich Americans and Canadians have forced them into poverty from the start. It is common for example, to send children as young as 6 into the mines for long work days  at low, low wages.

It's nice that they'll now get beds for a little while. But that doesn't really solve anything.

The web site "Information Clearing  House" is perhaps the best of all the honest news media that I rely on for this blog. But I've let it slip because it has so much that it makes the blog terribly long. Go to Information Clearing House for March 27 "The U.S. Weaponizes Human Rights Against Nations Like China." The reality is that the U.S. is far the worst destroyer of human rights in the world. It forever points the finger at other countries. But the reality is that the U.S. kills millions, making a specialization of children and babies. This is what big business wants.

And wouldn't it be interesting to find out what Canada's capitalists are doing with their American friends? - Remember, Canada sent soldiers and police to destroy democracy in Haiti. Wouldn't it be nice to know the role of Canadian capitalists in this?

Note that in recent years, China has raised a billion of its people into middle class status. (The U.S. government has, for over 25 years been pushing  it's poor so deeply into poverty that millions are now living on the streets.) The China I saw just over 30 years ago was a land of dreadful poverty. When I see pictures of it now, I can scarcely believe that such advancement is possible.

We are caught in trap that goes back many thousands of years when a small number of people control us. And don't kid yourself. As has been  happening for thousands of years that small number will go on destroying the rest of us - and taking the rest of us with them. Take a good look at the list of names of those Canadian billionaires. They aren't here to lead you.  They're here to bleed you.

And don't believe your local news media. Most are owned by our billionaires. And they're the killers.

There is no climate change!

All this news about the Arctic melting - all this news about monster forest fires all over the world - all the recorded warming of the oceans in just recent years - the gradual sinking of California and Florida as the oceans rise don't mean nothin' -

That's official because the Conservative party of Canada says so.  Yes. This is none of your left wing hysteria. This is the Conservative party in its recent convention, the  equivalent of Donald Trump's Republicans. So we know it's true. And gas pipelines are good for us.

On Saturday, CBC news carried the story. And it made the big time all over the world with a major story in the Manchester Guardian for March 21.

Yes. It makes me proud to be a Canadian.

There is nothing particularly gripping in today's news. So I'd like to try a different approach to the news.

In my working years, I was an historian who taught some  30 years at a university. My field was Canadian history. And it was interesting to see how our study made us realize that much of what we are told is lies. Add to that working in a department with scholars covering most of the world. That can really change the way you look at events.

For example....

I was brought up to believe that in the two world wars British, Americans, Canadians were good guys.   In fact, it's not that simple.

World War 1 was fought - not because our side was good guys and the other side bad guys. That was happened because the western world was industrializing at a tremendous pace. Each country - Britain, France, Germany, Austria - was afraid of being beaten out by the industrial pace of the others. In other words, this was a war of industrial survival for the nations of western Europe.

Nobody got beaten in that war. At the peace conference, it was agreed to accept peace with no penalties on anybody.

But Britain and France both feared that German industry would outclass them. So they demanded a new rule which would destroy the German economy. Germany was driven into desperate poverty with much of it's wealth dropped into British and French pockets.

And this is what opened the way to a Hitler.

In other words British and French interference designed to enrich British capitalists with a treaty that led us all into World War 2. But no newspaper has ever said that. In short, Britain and France were as responsible for World War 2 as Hitler was - maybe more so.

And the British, French and Canada - and the U.S didn't give a damn about what happened to Jews in Hitler's Germany. When German Jews tried to flee to those countries, we all well knew what they were fleeing from. But Britain, France, the U.S. and Canada all sent them back to die in Germany. And we knew what we were doing to them. (I knew a husband and wife who fled to Canada. But they were rich. And they paid off Canadian officials to let them in.)

As Canadian troops and their allies invaded Germany, they pretended shock at the death camps. In fact, they knew all about them from the start. We had known about them from the start. 000H how terrible. But the reality was Canada still refused to let them come here  until 1948. Instead, we sent them off to Palestine so they could kill Palestinians as Germans had killed them.

Yes, alas, the Jews of Israel have made Palestine into a Nazi-style death camp.

Are you impressed by the record of Winston Churchill as British leader? If so, that's because you don't know anything about him.

Churchill believed in the superiority of the British and American people.He believed they were superior to all people on earth. Accordingly, it was   quite correct for Britain and the U.S. to murder all other people. Further - that did not mean all British and American people were equal. No. Most British and Americans were subordinate to their aristocracies. Churchill was, of course, a prominent member of the aristocracy. In World War 1, he took it as obvious that he should be made a general - and he was very displeased when he was not.

However, he made up for it between wars as murderer for Empire, happily  killing people in Africa, then , during the war, he allowed some 300 million people to be starved to death in India, though food was available. Well, of course. They were inferior people who deserved to die.

He was also, throughout the war, a boozer who set a record for his consumption of alcohol at public expense.  His one, obvious contribution to the world, was going out in the morning to stick his thmb up at the crowd on the streets.

And what did the British people think of this drunken and self-loving prime minister?

Their chance came near the end of the war when an election was called. And the English people had endured enough from him. They voted him out as the drunken and deluded wretch he was.

But he's still a hero in British and American news media.

The British were lucky, though. In World War 1,  their generals had been real stinkers.  In world war two, it was stuck with a drunken prime minister. But some good luck was on the side of the people who had excellent military leadership in WW2.

And the US? Why did it enter the war? To bring peace to the world? Get reaL Because it was attacked at Pearl Harbour? Because it wanted to help Britain?

Get real on all counts. American capitalists wamted to get in the war to build it's own empire and replace Britain.

The starting point was to cut off oil supplies to the Japanese forces in the Far East. The Japanese, as  the U.S. expected, reacted with their attack on Pearl Harbour. The U.S. was surprised - but the door was no open for an American attack - particularly on China. It was the American chance to plunder China before the British could ever get it back.

Shortly after, the U.S. entered the war in Europe - but for reasons that had nothing to do with Europe. The U.S. entered the European war to steal control of British-owned oil fields in the middle east. And it certainly worked. It also, for a time, dominated western Europe, sending it, along with Canada into American wars.

The first one was Korea in 1949. Our news media filled us with starry eyed news about how we were defending that fine democracy called South Korea. Actually, South Korea was neither fine nor a democracy.

It was a dictatorship controlled by South Koreans who had been allies of the Japanese in world one. And it was still as brutal and vicious as they come. I  often think of that when I remember the older kids I knew who died there. In fact, those gangsters and thugs who ruled South Korea were still in power for some years after the war.

Anyway, that's not what the war was about.

The purpose of the war was to give the U.S. and it's allies a base to reconquer China. And we lost because China boosted us out.

But none of our newspapers ever said that. Nor did they ever tell us what bastards the South Korean rulers were. That was my first lesson in the lying and  corruption of our news media.

What I have seen since then in our news media has been a continuation of that.

Under American rule, Cuba was ruled largely by gangsters and murderers. That's no exaggeration. American mobsters were a major force as were murdering thugs hired from the locals. The rest? They offered only the cheapest of labour, mostly of goods for the American market and owned by American capitalists.

Education? Almost non-estistant except for the rich friends of American capitalists and gangsters. For the rest, children worked from the age of 6 and even less. (In fact, that still happens in most of Latin America under the rule of wealthy Americans.)

Why is the U.S. so eager to overthrow the government  of Venezuela? That's because American capitalists want to own and control the very rich oil fields of Venezuela. Therefore, Venezuela is evil for wanting control of its own oil. And that's exactly the same story with American threats on Iran.

Doesn't anybody ever wonder why Iran  and Venezuela are penalized for wanting to sell their own oil?

But you wouldn't find that in our news media.

Check The Guardian,com on the web for March 23. On the front page is the story that that the new naval commander feels we have to  go to war with China soon. For that reason,  he wants the U.S. (which cannot feed or house millions of it's families) to build even bigger and and more expensive nuclear bombs to bomb China.

Of   course. The U.S. cannot beat China with a conventional war - not even when it sucks in allies like Canada - and it will do so - and the Canadian Legion will say "clap, clap." 

The only kind of war  that the U.S. can fight against China is mass murder of millions (more than a billion) Chinese men, women, children, babies. Since 1945,  the U.S. has been a happy killer of women, children and babies all over the world. That's what it's best at. And it's already killed millions since 1945. 

I can't even guess how the rest of the world will react. But  I'm quite sure Canada will kiss the American ass - something the Canadian Legion does with style.

What makes the new naval commander so deternined on a nuclear war?

It's because he's afraid China will attack Taiwan. Yes. The commander of the U.S. navy in Chinese waters thinks that Taiwan is not Chinese territory. But in fact, it is, and it has been for centuries.

Just after World War 2, Chiang Kai-Shek, perhaps the most corrupt and vicious world leader in history was in  wild retreat from the Chinese revolution. In a final stand, he led his thugs into Taiwan - a Chinese territory. For some reason I don't know, the victorious Chinese did not follow him - though it may well have been that an attack by China may have been too dangerous given American support of Chiang.

Anyway, the reality is that Taiwan is and always has been a part of China.

And another reality is that a Taiwan with its population of Chiang Kai-Shek thugs could very well become a base for the American invasion of China.

But don't expect our North American press to have anything intelligent to say. Indeed, most of them will probably say that Taiwan is an independent country.

Is any Canadian newspaper likely to tell the whole story of this? I doubt it. I doubt it very much.

And, oh, my, this blog went on  didn't it? Sorry.

But we are all in danger from the wealthy of our countries. The Biden government, financed by billionaires, is as dishonest as all the governments we ever had. In Canada, we have suffered the likes of Irving in New Brunswick. Like all the other Canadian billionaires who almost never make the news but who own both the Liberals and Conservatives  and these people along with the news media (most of which they own) are leading us into the final disaster.

I have been disciplined

 Well, I spoke to me daughter about my idea taking the colour and text of the stories I use for my blog. She sat me down - as daughters do - and said that was not a good idea. The audience would prefer to see my text. Then she patted my head (and said that I could also give readers the source for the story.)

I hear and I obey as aging fathers do. So here's the source for the first story (dated March 13 at rabble.ca) It's about Guantanamo the patch of Cuba that the U.S. stole over a hundred years ago, and is now a prison,

It was made a prison by George Bush with prisoners from all over the world. But it was more than just a prison. It was a place where prisoners could be tortured. Yes, American presidents have been big on torture in prisons around the world. Thus the horror for Mauritania's Mohammedou  Oald Slalic.

Actually, he was not an enemy of any sort. But he was tortured almost daily at Guantanamo. He was also a sexual target of many of the guards. And all of that is illegal. Can you imagine how furious Americans would be if other countries did that to Americans? Mohammedou endured that horror for 12 years.

At the beginning, there were 779 detainees at Guantanamo. Today, there are only 40 at a yearly cost of 590 million. It's the most expensive - and useless - and most brutal and most illegal prison in the world.

Of all the lying news media in the world,  among the biggest ones are those of the U.S. and, yes, of Canada. And they have been very lying in any news dealing with China.

The U.S. now is hammering China for it's treatment of Ugyhur Moslems. Think about that. The U.S., for the last 70 years has been the biggest murderer of Moslems in the world - and, yes, the biggest murderer of men, women and children Moslems. Indeed, it is now very busy in starving the whole population of Yemen to death.

Indeed, the U.S spends more on killing than -get this - all of the rest of the world put together. Of course. This is a treasure trove for American capitalists. Americans are dying in the streets. But American capitalists have never had it so good.

What our news media has not reported is the long history of Ugyuhurs (not all but many) haters of China - and China is now trying to deal with the haters. There are also many Ugyuhurs  who are not haters of China - and those are not being slammed into prison camps. Indeed, they enjoy all the benefits of the Chinese people in general..

Our news media are always looking for evil - and the evil are never us. 

Today, China is extending it's trade into Latin America. o--o--o--o evil. only the U.S. is allowed to operate in Latin America, a privilege they have used to make that whole continent poverty stricken.   (Read any stories in your local papers about that?) 

And Canada has commonly supported the U.S. in its cruelty and brutality as in, for example, it's treatment of Venezuela. That behaviour  also applies overseas, as in the middle east. Canadians have died supporting American aggression - as in Afghanistan. Canadians mourned those Canadians who came home dead from the struggle to make American billionaires richer.

We Canadians made heroes of the dead - the very ones we should have protected

 Haiti was once a democracy. The U.S. didn't like that. So it overthrew the elected government and installed a dictatorship. Then, not liking to get it's own feet dirty, the U.S. told Canada to send in troops and police. Their job? To kill anybody who wanted democracy in Haiti.

The news for yesterday

 Confession time.

I have felt for some time that site requires more of the pictures and text from papers that have colour pictures from around the world - and have print that goes beyond mine.

But, for us old folks, that's not easy to do. And I guess that's why us ancients have have children (despite their view that us old folks are just backwards an living in the past. So I plan to humble myself despite the smartassness of children. 

I have a daughter who knows all about getting colour stories onto a colour page. I plan to beg at her feet - as us old folks must do -to make my page into a colour page. That will be much better for readers.

Until then, I continue with my old farts blog. Today, it will deal with March 10.

In the Guardian, we are told that a senior American admiral warns that China could invade Taiwan in the next six years.

It's possible. Taiwan is, after all, a part of China, and  has been for hundreds, maybe thousands, of years. It broke away shortly after World War 2 when the corrrupt and vicious Chiang Kai-shek  siezed it.

Chiang was evil. He was corrupt. He was a supporter of British and American plundering of China. He was, quite possibly, the biggest drug dealer in the world. I see no reason he was allowed to occupy Taiwan in the first place. This was really the U.S. muscling in on Chinese territory and Chiang's corruption.

And  the U.S. is indignant at the possible Chinese attack on Taiwan?

Get real.

The U.S. has been killing people in almost every year since the American revolution. It is murdering and plundering today all over Latin America  and the middle east. It is, and always has been, a murderous thief. And today, it is the world's biggest murderer.

That's some record.

    In information clearing house,   (and still at March 10), we learn that the U.S. and it's allies (including Canada) have dropped 46 bombs per day for 20 years. Since 1949 it has targetted civilians and children. (Yemen is a model of that brutality.)

And this is the sort of thing the Canadian Legion claps hands for. When will it learn that it should make judgements - and not just send our military into wars to please billionaires? We joined a foolish war in Afghanistan. We destroyed the democracy of Haiti. We have troops in several parts of the world ready to kill people in order to please billionaires

In world wars one and two, our military was superb.   But the Legion has to learn how to make decisions, and not just throw Canadians into wars that have nothing to do with us.  

My father served in the navy in WW2 and with the end of the war in Europe he volunteered to serve in the Pacific.  I was very proud of that. I was not proud when Canadians died in the Korean War - which was really a war the U.S. wanted to open a war with China. (The story was we are fighting to saave democracy in South Korea. In fact, that was NOT what it was about.   South Korea was NOT a democracy. It was a hive of corruption ruled by those South Koreans who had been on the side  of Japan in WW2. Canadians died to keep those traitors in power for many years. Is the Legion proud of that?)

And President Biden is very much a part of that horror.

The British Empire began kissing up to Canada only in 1901 -  the Boer War. It wasn't because Britain needed the help. It was because Britain knew a war with Germany was coming. So it wanted to establish a precedent so that Canada would fight Germany in WW1. Ditto for Australia, New Zealand, India and others.  (And Britain was just as bad as Germany in setting up World War 1.)

But after World War  2, Britain didn't need Canada. So it dumped us Canadians to fight American wars (for billonaire wars) in future. Thus we've had Canadians dying to make American billionaires happy by dying and killing for them in Latin America, Afghanistan, etc.

The American Problem

 I have at last finished reading Ezra Klein - and he is, believe me, one hell of a tough read. This guy is a lot smarter than I am. 

Near the end of his "Why We're Polarized" he offers a brief and very readable summary of his comments on why the U.S. is not a democracy. And it's true. You can see it every day on TV - and I include his major points below.

"America is not a democracy. Our political system is built around geographic units, all of which privilege sparse, rural areas over dense, urban ones. This is most, glairingly true in the Senate where Vermont wields the same power as New York. But it is also true in the south, due to the way districts are drawn,and in the White House, due to the electoral college, and thus it is also true in the Supreme Court, which reflects the outcomes of presidential and senatorial elections. And power, of course, begets power. Republicans use their majorities to pass partisan, gerry mandering plans, pro-corporate  campaign laws, strict voter camaign laws, and Supreme Court campaign decisions further  weaken Democrats electoral performance."

That is exactly what happened in Donald Trump's 'victory'. And it still happens as a  tremendous problem in U.S. 'democracy'.

In short, the U.S. is not a democracy at all. In a democracy, the majority rules. Trump had nothing like a majority. And today's majority Democrats are severely hampered by a voting system that usually gives more power to the loser of an election than it does to the winner.

The Guardian has a lead story that you are not likely to find in most of our news media.

Yemen is the poorest country in the world, and that means it has the worst famine in the world. That famine is worsened by a long, Saudi invasion that is supplied, largely,  by British weapons. Pictures of it are horrible of children (especially babies) starving to death in huge numbers. And Britain has been a major force in making that horror possible.

And Britain has just made it worse by cutting it's already slim budget for food to Yemen. (Hey! It's gotta help super rich British.)

You haven't seen this story in your daily paper? Of course not.

What has been the most war loving country in the world in our time? That is the U.S.  American politicians talk constantly about the sins of others. But they have been the worst killers.  Indeed, the U.S. has been almost constantly busy at killing  since it's pilgrim fathers landed. Thus it's mass murder of native peoples. Thus it's assault and plundering of Latin America - including it's post war years of murdering hundreds of thousands of Christian clergy in Guatemala - a mass murder carried out by George Bush Sr. who was an almost fanatical chuch goer - along with his half-wit son.

And that has never been reported by our news media, not even when a Canadian missionary was killed and buried at his birthplace in New Brunswick. No thoughts on that, Mr. Irving?

Ever since 1949 when it launched a general war against North Korea (really against China) it has murdered and starved civilians, women, children by the millions all over the world. And the purpose of all these wars? That's to get control of their economies to make a very small number of American billionaires even richer. Indeed, the U.S. has now dumped it's poorest, by the tens of millions, into the streets.

In this plundering, Canada has wimply played a role. (Clap, clap clap says the Canadian legion.) We have sent Canadian troops to die in Afghanistan, in Korea, to murder and destroy democracy in Haiti. We have troops at danger points in Africa, and Europe, all to God bless American (and Canadian) billionaires who have actually won more wealth even as Americans and Canadian are suffering the current crisis.

(To the Canadian Legion - please - learn that your purpose is not to fight for billionaires. Your purpose, surely, is to judge what is best for our military. Your purpose is not (should not be) to get more Canadians killed - as in Afghanistan.

You are supposed to offer judgements for our soldiers - not to automatically cheer them off to die for billionaires. The Canadian military had an outstanding record in two world wars. Indeed, it was so brilliant in WW1 that many British leaders wanted the Canadian general to take over leadership of the whole British army. I    wonder how many legionnaires know that. And there was certainly nothing shabby about the Canadian performance in WW2. But we have been very foolish to fight other people's wars - as in the Boer War, Afghanistan,   Korea, Haiti.....)

It's important to get away from our commercial news media. Almost all of them hide the real news. Almost all of them lie. Perhaps the best of our commercial news media is CBC - though I have known it's management to interfere with the news. For daily news, I would recommend:

CBC, The Guardian, Gwynne Dyer, the Nation, Rabble.ca, Common Dreams, Consortium News, Corbert Report, Counter Currents, Counterpunch, The Tyee, Global Research, Information Clearing House  (superb), Media Lens, National Observer, Global Citizen, OffGuardian, The Anti-Media, Truthout, Intercept, The Saker, Voltairenet.

Almost all of these are operated by journalists who have been disgusted by the dishonesty of our commercial news media. Typical is Rabble.ca which was founded by a man who had been, for his whole career,  an outstanding journalist for CBC - but who still finds it necessary to continue his work with more complete freedom to be honest.

Where are we going? We are being robbed blind by politicians who serve their bloody-minded masters of our lives and our destinies - the super rich who rob us - as they always have - but on an even bigger scale than we have known.

And they are now looking for even the ultimate destruction  - of China, of Russia of all countries with nature resources to be plundered with poverty for the rest of us, and trillions for the super rich.

What does that mean for us? Poverty, starvation, death. It's already happening in the U.S. The question for us is how long (or little) we can continue with this feast of greed.

Will their greed ultimately kill them?

Quite probably.

 I have been in hospital for over a week. And I'm an old, old man - 83.

This blog is a catchup.

I haven't had time to catch up on all the stories I meant to cover for this blog. but here are a couple of items that you didn't get from your local newspaper.

1.Global oil companies, we are told, have committed to serious reduction of omissions. But that's not true. In fact, they are increasing them. And we will all pay a hell of a price for that. For the story on that go to The Guardian on your computer for March 3.

2. While you're at The Guardian and still on March 3, go to the middle east, north africa section for shameful cuts in UK aid to Yemen. Also check out that paper's edition of March 1. "War and famine could wipe out next generation of Yemenis". In fact, the U.S. Britain and Saudi Arabia have been deliberately starving the people of Yemen, concentrating on women and children and babies. (Be sure to look at the picture on that page.)

And isn't this what the war with Hitler was about?

And this is another story you probably won't find in your daily paper or TV/Radio news.

And while you're thinking about that, consider this.......The U.S. is NOT a democracy. It never has been. No. I'm not being  cute. The founders of the U.S. never believed in democracy. That's why they designed a political system that was not a democracy.

Check back to the election of Donald Trump. His Republican party was a minority one by a large margin. The winners of that election, in a democracy, were, by a large margin, the Democrats - but they lost. That's something that runs through the history of the U.S. The founding fathers of the U.S. did not believe in democracy. Instead, they designed a system that would appeal not to the average person but to groups of the wealthy. That's why Trump won the presidency though Democrats won the election by a large margin.

Today's Democrats won the vote of the recent election but----the Republicans still exercise great power.

For anyone interested in this, there's an excellent book called Why We're polarized. The author is Ezra Klein. Caution - this is also the most difficult book I have ever read. And I've spent most of my life reading books.

The U.S. is unique. Canada, Britain, France, Germany are democracies. The U.S. is the only Western power that is not a democracy.

 I have just returned from a long trip to rearrange all my internal parts. And, no, I wasn't allowed to have my computer with me.

While away in the hospital, I read a very disturbing  book and one hell of a difficult to  read book about the U.S. political system.  according to this book by a superb journalist and scholar the U.S. political system is very different from all political systems in the world.  It's a tough, tough read. I can't pretend to have understood it all. But the part that remains is a very scary read as well as being a very difficult one.

The book, by the way, is by Ezra Klein, Why We're Polarized.

And it scared me. (More for my readers after my wimpy supper of tomato juice.)
