August 22: We are approaching the enemy. And he is us.

Relax. Real smart premiers like Ford of Ontario and Cheney of Alberta tell us it ain't happening. And, you know, those oil executives, they know things too. So why worry?

This is the climate change that, we're often told, isn't happening.

And we have very little time to deal with it.

The four contenders for the leadership of Canada's Conservative party speak - and have nothing to say. (Oh, one of them, it's true, is speaking out about making it illegal to require face masks. These clowns make even the Liberals look intelligent.)

Relying on our Ontario commercial news media, I would never know there are homeless people on our streets and in our parks.

A trillion dollars- even as millions have been dropping from poverty to abandonment in the streets. It's only slightly better in Canada - though that's just because of our smaller population. In tax evasion alone, a small number of Canadians have over 300 billion tucked away. And, like the richest Americans, the richest Canadians have actually become richer even as the economies crash.

Will the super rich spend that money on helping the rest? No. They aren't in the business of helping anybody but themselves. No. They'll spend their extra money exploiting the even deeper poverty of nations as in Latin America and the middle east - the nations they have driven into poverty in the first place.

Do Canadian Jews support Israel? At the beginning, they did. But my impression, after giving hundreds of talks to Jewish groups in Montreal, is that support for Israel has been in decline for many years. However, the "Israeli lobby" is well financed and very active in Montreal. (I know that because it was effective in attacking me, and in getting me fired from a radio spot I had occupied for over 20 years - even though I had never attacked Israel. But it wanted that spot for a very extreme supporter of Israel.)

Canadians need lots of reminding on this. They are, to a remarkable degree, a cheering section for some very bad American policies.

Funny the Canadian Legion (and Canadian historians) have rarely noticed that.

It doesn't matter which party wins the U.S. election. In fact, it has never mattered in the whole history of the U.S.

A view, a very diffferent view, of Canadian politics - one that is not to be found in our commercial news media.

Recently, I've been getting the impression that even the best news media are not getting to  the fundamentals of what is happening to us. Bear  with me. I'm going to try to make sense out of all this Let's go back to a point I tried to make a few times in recent blogs. Let's go back to the time when homo sapiens did not yet exist.

The closest ancestors to us that then existed were some species of gorillas.

Gorillas today and then did not form gangs to kill other gorilla gangs. In fact, they were in time of danger more likely to climb a tree until the danger went away. Nor  was that a quality just of our (relatively) close ancestors.

Lions would kill for food (as we do to this day) But they did not form lion gangs to kill other lion gangs. They might have an occasional squabble with another animal. But it was never frequent or highly organized as our wars are.

There's no doubt about it. The creators of organized war were -- and are --us.

Our behaviour was caused by something no other animal had - a large brain. That brain is what encouraged some of us (not all) to see the possibility of organizing other homo sapiens to submit to command, organization, and leadership. They were the ones who could organize the rest to kill for them.

The number of such leaders was probably always small. Nor is it likely they were intelligent in any other sense. But these were the leaders of the first armies, the ones who aquired the titles king, emperor, lord. And all of them throughout history,  despite acquiring wealth and power, failed - the emperors of Rome are prime examples of this failure. But there have long been successors to them.

The misnamed democracies produced political leaders who did what the kings and emperors had done. The U.S. is an example of that - where presidents going back to George Washington have used their power for constant war and plundering.

The latest wave is made up of what we call capitalists. Really a product of the early days of the industrial revolution, they exerted mastery over all with their wealth. In short, they buy political leaders - and enslave the rest of us. And they use the rest of it to fight their wars by linking those wars with "serving the queen", "serving the nation" or some other mindless babble.

Just about every war in history has been  fought to enrich kings, emperors, Lords, the upper class of so-called democracies. In every case, we have been told these wars were in defence of 'values'.  And so it is we praise our military for fighting Hitler, nicely ignoring the fact that Germans fought under Hitler under exactly the same beliefs. And Japanese were told they were fighting for the emperor. In fact, in all of those wars, all sides were fighting to enrich capitalists.

We humans are prone to evil, the evil that began with our earliest humans.  And that evil is now so powerful it is close to destroying the whole planet.

But you won't find that in our commercial news media.

Nor will you find it in our Christian churches. They fully share in their worship of capitalists as they once shared in worship of emperors and kings and lords. Our human history has always been like that. The U.S. is the world's most recent mass murderer. Heard anything about that in church? The British Empire murdered over 400,000,000 people.Did we see any Anglican bishops marching in the streets to oppose this?

We follow some of the most evil and murderous people in history in the form of capitalists today and as it was to the form of kings and emperors.

We had the chance in 1945 of a world oriented to peace. In China, we could have supported the revolutionaries who wanted to make China a better place to live. Instead, we threw our ourselves at the service of a Chiang Kai-Shek who plundered China just as the British had. Of course China hates and distrusts us.

The parade of killers is what this blog is about. The evil is about the leaders of the most vicious creatures this world has ever known - us.

Now, with our large, earthly population and our worship of the most vicious elements of our society, we are very close to the end.

As pogo said, we have found the enemy - and he is us.
