China is certainly a vicious nation. And guess who made it that way.It was centuries of killing, plundering, threatening by the western powers. At first, this was the brutality of the British and a few other western powers Then, from 1945 to now, it has been the U.S. And, please, no muttering about how the west had to destroy communism. Communism (whatever that means) has created a prosperous and modern China, something that all the years of western capitalist interference never did.
We should have offered China help and friendship in 1945.We didn't. And that's not because the Chinese were evil. It's because we were -and are. Yes. We are the ones who played a major role in creating the China that we hate today.
Today, Hong Kong is suffering terribly. But it's simplistic to say China is causing the suffering when we are the ones who created the China that is caused the suffering.
Ever wonder who is causing the suffering all over Latin America (as in Guatemala and Venezuela) and all over the middle east? Ever seen a newspaper that said which was the evil side?

This is the lowest I have ever felt in writing this blog. Most news media, even the good ones, seem to be running out of things to say. The reaction of the very wealthy is an utter contempt for the rest of us -as well as a profound stupidity about their own destiny. And, in many countries - like Canada, the U.S. UK, France, Brazil, perhaps China - most of our political leadership is, to put it kindly- absent. And so it is that we are ruled not by our elected people but, in reality, by our greediest and most vicious
All of this reminds me of the researchers whose studies of us homo sapiens over many, many thousands of years reveal us as the most vicious and greedy ceatures this planet has ever seen in a million or more years. It seems that larger brains produce higher intelligence - but also much higher capacity for evil. And this has become much worse with industrialization - so much so that our greediest are now engaged in destroying the whole planet. This is a development they cannot win - but greed, as in the government hacks of Ontario and Alberta, drives the insanity of their behavour.
One product of this is our glorification of war. Our side is ALWAYS good. The other side is ALWAYS evil. Actually, wars are seldom about good and evil. I thought of that one day as I listened (in pain) to the historian who is almost certainly Canada's leading military historian. His speech, like his books, was a glorification of killing by our side. (The other side is always evil in his writing.)
He was the man who designed Canada's war museum, a museum which tells us little about our wars, glorifies our military - but doesn't notice the evil of our participation in the mass murder of South Africans or Libyans or Afghans or Koreans or Afghans or Syrians. No, it's all glory, glory, glory to the speaker who stepped down at the end with an amazingly exaggrated swagger that suggested he, in ciritizing a high school history text, was amazingly courageous. (Actually, and as the professor must have known, any principal who permitted a history text book that told the truth about Canada would have been fired by the school board - and quite possibly fired on the advice of the professor.)
World War Two was NOT fought because Hitler was evil. It was fought because capitalists on both sides (Britain, France, Canada, and the U.S. one one side, Germany, Italy, and Japan on the other) feared the other sides' growing economic competition. But one would never know that from the reporting of our news media or, alas, most of our historians.
We, all of us, have to overcome our human love of evil. And we have to do it soon.
Oh, and has Christianity had any effect on all this?
