This site is designed to find the best sources of news. Alas, this world is short of good news service whether in newspapers, radio or TV. This blog carries Britain's "The Guardian" because it is one of the only two or three honest news sources in the English world. Most of the other sources on the site are operated by honest, intelligent and concerned individuals and groups.

I'm beginning this blog on the evening of June 3 because I very much fear what the night may bring.
Trump is a man with serious delusions about his sanity, his understanding of the essentials of a democracy, his knowledge of leadership....he has made a very bad situation into something much, much worse. And it is possible, even likely, that he is about to do something very, very foolish.
It could be, in effect, declaring war on most of the American people. It could be something very much worse - a nuclear war on China and Russia. This is a man with an ego so powerful in a mind so small and ignorant and trivial that he is unpredictable.
He maintains his support among evangelical Christians because they are as deluded as he is, and they eagerly want to see the end of this world when they will all go to heaven, and we will all go to hell.
This is the most dangerous time in the human history of this planet.

They insist on continuing to pump oil despite the evidence that it is destructive to human life. They destroy forests with no regard for the destructiveness of human life. And their wealth and ownership of governments makes it certain that goverments will let them get away with all this. (It was many years ago that Trudeau announced his intention to end the oil industry in Canada. Since then, he has done nothing. - Well, actually he has done something. He has given billions of dollars of our taxes to American oil barons to encourage them to keep pumping it.)
Despite all our big talk, we allow capitalists to plunder nations, to murder millions, and to create a world that our children will not survive. (And there seem to be few of us who give a damn.)

The Irving family, which owns New Brunswick and it's newspapers and it's Liberals and Conservatives, has happily sprayed the forest and farmlands of the province for years. And when the province's chief medical officer warned that this was extremely dangerous ------ they had her fired.

Well, I have mixed feelings about this one. French Quebec had poduced a very violent and even murderous drive to force out the English and to separate Quebec from Canada. For many years, I was on the board of the province's English rights group - Alliance Quebec.
The English of Quebec suffered murders and threats of much, much greater violence and killing. I well remember the riots; I remember the night the Alliance Quebec office was burned and gutted while Montreal police were supposedly watching it from across the street.
I remember the death threats that I and other members of the board got. I particularly remember the courage of our president who was a special target. We had to hire a guard for him, and he often had to wear a disguise in public.
Mobs of separatists filled the streets, calling for death for the English.
So the Canadian government sent in the army. And yes, I think that was a good idea.

They are why so many Canadians have to live in poverty. They, like the Irvings, pollute our forests, and own both the Liberals and the Conservatives.
Shouldn't we know more about them?

Alas! Any such change is virtually impossible in our universities. They don't recognize (or give a damn) about quality teaching. In fact, they don't even have any idea of what it means. Prestige (and ego) comes from publication of research. The ultimate prestige comes from being a professor who has a very light teaching load because his/her role is dedicated to research.
(I vividly remember one professor who demanded and got a year off so he could live in another city to do research. He knew nothing of teaching, and had nothing but contempt for it.)

No surprise. Since the World War Two bombing of Dresden in WW2, the U.S. specialty in war has been killing civilians and children right down to babies. That was very marked in Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and in helping out Saudi murderers in Yemen.

But let's give full credit. The world leader in foccusing on killing civilians may well have been Winston Churchill, a thorough racist. During fighting against the Kurds, he ordered the RAF to bomb ONLY those helpless Kurdish villages and towns that had no defences and no military. (It's long been time to learn more about what a brutal racist and child killer Churchill was for his whole career.)
