June 10: What's this all about?

Americans have been murdering Blacks for over 150 years. Street gangs quite publicly and with  general support even broke into jails to pull out Black prisoners to hang them or, often, to torture them to death. The Ku Klux Klan was busily murdering blacks, quite publicly, for all those years.

Some years ago, I was in Washington - and all the whites I encountered muttered about those damn Blacks and how it was time to deal with them. Churches in the U.S., through all those years have usually been, quite separately, either Black or white. (In fairness, I have to add that Christian churches almost since the origins of the Christian faith have supported murderers. German churches supported Hitler. Churches in the days of the British Empire supported the British murder of hundreds of millions. American churches supported the mass murder of native peoples, Latin Americans,

And it can get confusing. Britain is now attacking it's police for being racist. So they are. But they rarely kill anybody. A  typical year will produce perhaps 2 killings (almost always whites) by British police.

Britain and the U.S. have a murder list over the centuries and all over the world that probably runs over a billion. There is no count on the U.S. mass murder of Latin Americans for the last 120 years. They happily murder children today, especially children, all over the world, and have been doing so for centuries. But who cares?

Canada has been racist going all the way back to it's earliest settlers, when Black slaves  could be hanged or just plain butchered - as when a  Montreal Black slave was torn apart by horses. To this day, Blacks can have a hard time getting jobs in Canada, and many are still forced to live in ghettos.

I certainly support the movement to treat Blacks as equals. But I'm not at all sure that's what the current foofaraw is about. I'm not at all sure the demonstators know what it's all about. It's rather rare to get such massive demonstrations - especially when the need for this sudden round of demonstrations comes after centuries of popular and accepted  racial abuse.

I'm not sure the demonstrators themselves know what this is about. Nor is it likely that the Republican and Democrat parties know. It may have something to do with the direction of American power since 1945. It may be a disillusionment with this world's violence since 1945, and/or with the greed of billionaires who are the masters of political parties like U.S. Republicans and Democrats or Canadian Liberals and Conservatives.

We - and the demonstrators - really don't have a clear idea yet of what this is all about, of what displeases us.  But I suspect that it has a lot to do with anger at the very wealthy. and their abuse of all of us.

But it might be unpatriotic to say that.

Oh, and if Americans are going to get angry at killers, they might give a thought to the tens of millions  with a very high proportion of civilians killed all over the world by America's military, all of it paid for by their taxes.

The U.S. has been murdering Latin Americans for 120 years. That is no more acceptable than murdering Blacks in the U.S. It has driven Latin Americans into poverty in order to make white American Capitalists even wealthier. It has done the same in the middle east. And as capitalism has driven American Blacks into poverty, so it has driven the people of Latin America, the middle east and much of Africa into poverty.

Sadly, Canadian capitalists have joined their American brothers, sending Canadians to kill people (and to die in Cuba, in the Koreas, in Afghanistan, in Libya, the Middle East.) And Canadians cheered them as the Canadian dead were paraded on the so-called highway of heroes. Depend on it, American capitalists will soon need more Canadians to kill and be killed. And Canadians will cheer that as if it's something to be proud of.

(That's not a criticism of the Canadian forces. It's  a criticism of us, of how we cheered on our role so that our capitalists could be good friends of the American capitalists.)  All told, Canada, Britain and the U.S. have murdered well over 20 million people since 1950, most of them civilians and children.

This is not a criticism of our military. They volunteered, partly on the delusion we were the 'good guys', a delusion made popular by our news media. But it is a criticism of our Canadian Legion which has never had the guts to criticize our government for sending Canadians to kill and to die to please ---greed.

Hey, more Canadians gotta get with it. Canada's western Conservatives got it right. We should be allowed to have military weapons.

The Hong Kong protests could probably have been settled if only the Chinese and the U.S. had not been so pig-headed. Hong Kongers are never going to be satisfied with heavy, Chinese rule. And the Chinese are never going to back off as long as the U.S. threatens war, even nuclear war.

The problem is not Hong Kong. The problem is the U.S. and China.

Ontario premier Doug Ford was a tower of ignorance and servility to the super rich before the covid crisis. For all his effort to seem a man of compassion and commitment, he hasn't changed.

Teaching by computer requires training. It's not simply sending out the voice or picture of a teacher. Have we provided that training for our teachers? I haven't heard much about it.

Universities face the same problem - but worse. University teachers were getting no training in how to teach even before this crisis.-----maybe that might not be as bad as it sounds. University teaching was bad news before this crisis.

The super rich in Canada and the U.S. couldn't care less about public schools.  Why should they? For their own children, of course, they have private schools. I learned in my school teaching days that the children of the rich are not smarter than other children. And I found it much the same in university teaching. But most of the children in those public schools are so deprived of education that they can't make it as far as university.

American democracy in action.

The U.S. has made it a point to bomb and otherwise kill children ever since the Dresden rade of World War Two. That was very pronounced in Korea, Vietnam, and Yemen. They also quite deliberately poison children  - as in Yemen.

https://theintercept.com/2020/06/03/children-killed-airstrikes-afghanistan-tbij-report/
_______________________________________________________________

News coverage of actions by the U.S. is becoming pretty dismal. It focusses very narrowly on the events within the U.S. As a matter of fact, the U.S. from the start has followed the pattern of its British ancestors with mass murder, enslaving and plundering. That began with the slaughter of native peoples and theft of their land, with mass murder and plundering of Latin America, ditto with The Phillipines, and with the Middle East, much of Africa, the theft of oil fields from the British after World War Two. It has been doing that for centuries.

Many Americans, probably most Americans, who support Black  rights have a long history, a long, long history of murdering and starving of millions going all the way back to the Pilgrim Fathers. And they're doing it today all over the world. But to them and their news media, Americans are good people who have now demanded good treatment for their Black citizens.

That's nice. But there are other people in the world that Americans, Canadians, British and other whites treat more ruthlessly than they have treated Blacks. There is no realization of their own  evil. If Americans do improve their treatment of Blacks, their horrible treatment of Asians, Africans, Latin Americans will continue - and do so in an even viler way.

And American capitalists will continue to be an evil curse on this world. And Canadians will continue to join them in that evil. And North American (and European news media will continue to ignore it.

And there is worse to come for Canadians and Americans. We have long since bowed to our greediest citizens, the ones known as capitalists. These are people who make democracy impossible. These are the ones who own America's Democrats and Conservatives, and Canada's Liberals and Conservatives. In comparison with those people, American (and Canadian) treatment of Blacks is a small matter.

But there is not slightest possibility that our news media will notice that.

We are all guilty to stand by with our faces hanging out.
