Much of North America's news media treat our current crisis from a very local point of view. But this is not a local crisis.

China, for example, thinks that it's handling of the crisis, if a little slow in getting under way, has marked it's future as the major world power. The U.S., too, sees it as being linked to American world dominance. Thus Trump's   insistence on making the crisis worse, much worse, for countries like Venezuela, Iran and Iraq.
Indeed, Trump's posturing and aggressive behaviour toward those countries suggest that  war to retain American 'leadership' is virtually a sure thing --with all the possibility (probability) that this will lead to a world war.

Obviously, that would very quickly become the biggest, shortest and most destructive war this world has ever seen.

The U.S.  could probably do more for itself and for the world by going to the help of those countries. But it won't. That has never been the way of American capitalism.

Will it happen? It is very likely. The U.S. has a long track record for such behaviour. (And it wouldn't matter whether Republicans or Democrats are in power. Both of those parties are owned by America's capitalistts.

What might get in the way of that scenario is serious disorder in the U.S. American's are profoundly confused, divided, irrational, fearful..... There is every possibility of severe disorder no matter who wins.

We face the most serious world crisis ever known. And we face it with no evidence of intelligent leadership anywhere.

The world of class and national power no longer can function. There can be no making of America 'great' again -  or China, or Britain, or anybody. Wars have become so destrctive as to be unwinnable by anybody.

Almost all wars in history have been fought to benefit the very rich and greedy - and sommonly with rich and greedy on both sides (as they were in World War Two).

We have to change - profoundly. If we don't, nobody will win. And we will all lose.

(Oh, I can see it all now, members of the Legion jumping up an down to say we had to devfeat Hitler fo save the Jews and gypsies. Get over it. That;s not why World War Two was fouught.

For a start, Canada, Britain and the U.S. were as anti-semitic as the Germans were. Forgett what our news media told us.  British and American capitalists admired Hitler - until he began threatening their territory. Britain did not go to war against Japan because Japan was evil. When the U.S. fought fought Japan it was trying to take over the British Empire in Asia - a British Empire that was as bad and as evil as the Germans and Japanese put together. The Americans entered the war in Europe for reasons that had nothing to do with saving Jews or rescuing Britain. It had to do with moving in on a British Empire that was collapsing - as in the case of Middle East oil.

We have very little time - and even less morality.

And every step of the way, Canadian governments have made it a point to be  on the American side as it starves children to death and appproves dictators like Bolsonaro of Brazil.

Funny thing, though. Canadian news media almost never mention any of this.
Especially has this been true of news media owned by Conrad Black - Who Donald Trump has befriended.

Cuba is evil? Guatemala is evil?

You think Canadians are not racist? Dream on. Canadians have always been  world class racists. I grew up in a Canada in which Blacks were forced to live in a 'Black" section of the city,  where the only  decent jobs for Blacks were rare - as to limit black women to work as servants, and black men to the railways as porters, where Chinese were forced into a Chintown, where Blacks had rarely been accepted in universities. Ever see a Black hockey player? They have been rare.

Blacks could not be school teachers until the 1950s. (or 60s.)

When I took a troop of Chinese boy scouts to scout camp, they met with hatred and violence. (Jewish boy scouts got the same treatment.)

And these were small compared to the racist hatreds between French and English, Protestants, Catholics and Jews. (Britain, Canada, and the U.S. were (and some still are) profoundly anti-semitic in World War 2 and even later - into the 1970s and more in my experience.). This was particularly vicious among wealthy Canadians.

The same has been true of Canadian and American treatment of native peoples, not only with mass murder of them, but with theft of their land and general denigration of them.

You name them. We'll hate them.

April 9: George Washington amd tje tramsfer pf Brotish upper-class arrogance toe America.

I live in the city of Ottawa, the capital of Canada. It has a very large war museum, essentially of world wars one and two. It has quite a collection of weapons, accounts of battles.....  What it doesn't have is any indication of why Canadians fought in those wars. That says a lot about Canada's war historians, one of whom was the major designer of this war museum - and it should make us think about the many years of our misleading news agencies.

Actually, we'll go back a few years to a war sthortly before World War One. This was the Boer War since it was against the Boer (Dutch) settlers in their South African   colony.

This was quite clearly a war of conquest and plunder. The Ducth had settled it because It had, and still has, huge gold reserves. It also had a native (Black) work force that could be used as really cheap labour. Britain invaded it so it could steal all that gold and cheap labour.

There was no doubt that Britain would win such a war.

So why did it ask it's colonies like Canada and Australia to join? Colonies were not required to fight British wars. And they certainly ween't needed for this one.
But colonial politicans responded with enthusiasm that was encouraged by their news media.

So what was this all about?

It was about the war that came a little later, the one against Germany and others.
Britain knew it was going to need help with that one - and it wanted a precedent.

Of course, . Canada's, politicians and business leaders, all of them closely tied to Britain and manipulators of the press, appealed to Canada to 'rally to serve tne "mother country" and it's king. And it worked. Thousands of Canadians who had no moral or legal requirement to fiight British wars, who really had nothing against the Boers and were in no way threatened by them, ralled to serve the king.

Britain didn't need them. But it knew it  would need then a major war broke ou in Europe - and it wanted a precedemt fpr all of it's colonies to join in when such a war happened.

And so Canadians died fighting a war which neant nothing to them. ( They also ran concentration camps where  Boer wives, children and the elderly were held, there to die in very large numbers. All so Britain's super rich could steal South Afriican gold.

As a scheme to pull Canadian into the First World War and the Second, it worked.

In the same way, the U.S., with the help of Canadian politicians and news media, pulled   Canada into killing Koreans in a war that had nothing to do with Canada, but really an attempt to use Korea as a base to conquer a China that American capitalists wanted - as the British had wanted - conquer and plunder and murder China.  Canadians died in Korea for reasons that had nothing to do with Canada.

Then there was Afghanistan. At the time, Afghanistan has just finished fighting off the Russians. It had not,  in any way, attacked Canada, Britain or the U.S.
(Bin Laden, later murdered by the U.S., was certainly a hater of the U.S., but he had not led any attack on it. Nor was he an Afghanistan citizen. Nor had Afghanistan been the country that atttacked New York and Wasshington on 9/11.
Those attacks were led by citizens of a big, American friend, Saudi Arabia.

But Canadian politicans (and citizens)  bought the rumour that  our news media spread about who evil Afghanis were, how, in fact, they were 'terrorists'.
American bombers, who speicalized in bombing civilians, hospitals, schools, and have killed over 20,million people since 1945, and who daily, using drones,
daily murder innnocent people.

So the Canadian government sent Canadian troops, and the Canadian press didn't even whimper.

The U.S. is far the worst killer in today's world. But you would never guess that from our news media.

Going back to World War 1, were German evil?

No more so than all the other major powers. Germany - like Britain, like the U.S., like Canada, like Austria - all were controlled by very greedy capitalists.

But on the day World War 1, our news media labelled Germany as evil and kill crazy. No such label was every placed on Britain or the U.S. or anybody else on '"our side". But at the end of the war, Britain and France insisted on labelling Germans as the evil ones.

And that is what brought Hitler to power.

Our news media lie.Yes, Hitler was evil. The British were far more so, murdering over 400 million in their empire and enslaving and impovershing billions. Belgium was savage in it's slaugjter of Congo.

The American killings of their native peoples quite possibly esceeded the holocaust in Germany - and was at least as brutal. But you won't learn that from your daily paper.

Our news media lie/ They exist to serve their owners by lying.

And I must say that this world's military historians are less candid than they should be. And Ottawa's war museum should make a greater effort to tell the truth. Indeed, these failure to tell the whole truth are a dreadful remender or our abose osf those we send to wars.

George Washington and other 'founders of American democracy' were very much like the British aristocracy in their social belief that 'the people' were inferior and would have to be kept in their humble place.

In fact, George Waxhington WAS a typical upper-class Englishman of his time.
He was wealthy, perhaps the wealthiest in colonies. And, as an upper classs Englishman, the saw himself as superior to the commonn peoples. And that was  true of most of the other founding fathers as well.

Like upper class Englishmen, they had no respect for the rights of the lower classes. They were also profoundly racist, just like all upper class English. Thus the American slaughter of American native peoples - an act well in tune with Hitler's holocaust.

That also explains why the founding fathers of the U.S. had no problem with kidnapping Blacks, usuing them as cheap (free) labour, and pnnishing them with whips and even death.

George Waxington and his circle saw themselves as a ruling class. That's why they wrote a constitution that protected the power of the ruling class, and severely limited the rights of all others.

Probably,even worse is the record of many international companies , including Canadian ones, in hiding their profits in overseas banks so they don't have to pay income tax on them.  Nobody knows how much profit Canadian billionaires have hidden in this way. And it's been going on for a hundred years. The amount, just since World War 2 has been esttimated at close to 300 billion.

So tough luck all you teachers - and even tougher look for the millions of Canadians, Americans, Europeans now unemployed.

Canada, the U.S., Britain and many other countries have been cheated out of the income tax that should have been used to help them. We have all been cheated by our super rich for a hundred years and longer. Our current crisis of poverty is just one more chapter or a corruption we have tolerated for far too long.

I wrote the 4 items above on Saturday night. Then I took a break to look at Trump's press conference on TV. At one point, he was shocked and angry because he had learned that a foreign country was selling a product in the U.S. which was cheaper a similar to a similar one made in the U.S.

Oh! Shocking! Unfair! Against the  principles of fair trade! They were picking on the U.S. Yes, They were. And he would move immediately to stop this.

Hey! Hang on Donald. What was  illegal about  a foreign country producing a product betten than an American one? How did this hurt the American  people?
Heck! it was saving them money.

But no. Trump saw this as an assault on the U.S. So he plans to forbid the product.

Who benefits from this? Not the American people. No. They're going to get ripped off to fatten the profits of a few, super-wealthy Americans who, almost certainly, don't pay taxes, either.

Trump's purpose in all this is not to benefit the American people. It's to benefit billionaires who are ripping off the American people.

Luckily for Trump he has big support in the evangelical south. Swift they ain't.

There really isn't much more news around at this point. But this is worth much further study.  For example, the U.S. and,  to a degree, Canada is throwing billions at the super rich while ordinary people are dropping into poverty.
That is especially true in the U.S. where the millions of unemployed are starving but where they have to wait for (inadequate) help - for at least a wait of three months.

So how do they pay there rent? How do they feed there families?  Who cares?

Oh, one of the rich getting immediate help  with his possessions is -  wait for it - Donald Trump.

I don't know where this is going. Americans are stuck with a political system that has been government by the rich and for the rich. They show very little sign of getting over that.  But -

As this gets uglier, it  could get a whole lot angrier and more violent. And it could be aviolence of the poor against the poor.

It's also  quite possible that the super rich will demand a world war againt China and Russia before they whole American system collapses.

As many millions of ordinary people  in Canada, U.S., much of the world, our priority is giving billions to billionaires. And many Americans are scrambling to elect Joe Biden who has no policy on anything - except helping the super rich.
He has the lead with about half the voters. Donald Trump really stands for exactly the same 'values' as Biden.

There is really nothing to hope for in the coming U.S. election. And there is a great deal to fear. The U.S. could well be suffering severe violence on a national and random scale. That, quite likely, will be exploited by the very wealthy in the U.S. who will turn that anger into a world war against Russia and China. This will be the final war of the declining American super rich - and, quite likely, the last war for all of us.

The   biggest event of coming years - and not many of them - could, quite likely, be the desperation of the American super wealthy at the sharp decline of the U.S as an economic and military power. and the determination of the super wealthy  to use force while they still can.

In a quite different approach,, Canada's Financial Post, one of the world's worst newspapers, and a favouurite journalist for it, Diane Francis,wrote today that  Putin has declared war on Canada by reducing oil prices. This will hurt Canada, she says (and I am not making this up) because Alberta might soon want to leave Canada - and Russia's reduction of oil prices might handicap Alberta's departure.
(I have no idea where Financial Post finds these journalistic turkeys.).

So, she concludes, Canada must immediately give more billions of dollars to Alberta oil billionaires.

(In fairness, Financial Post is not the worst and most dishonest newspaper in Canada. That honour belongs to the Irving family which oswns all the newspapers in New Brunswick. And which daily sprays the province's forest with poisons.)

April 2: Writing a blog is hell......

...that's why this one will be brief.

I had spent many hours writing it, and was into the home stretch.

And then it all disappeared. This has heppened before though, blessedly, at long intervals. On the three occasions, it seems to have happened when my fingers accidentally touched a key in the upper left hand of my keyboard.

I'll try again on Friday. Meanwhile, here are some key feature of today's (Thursdays) items.

The U.S. has become the leading disaster area in coronavirus management in the whole world. Despite having all the time of warming as China went through it's crisis, American leaders made no preparation whatever. And when it did begin to notice, the American leadership seemed indifferent.

As a result, and despite all the warning signs, the U.S. is way out of control    with far more cases than any other country in the world. In fact, China is now recovering dramatically. But the U.S. is showing no recovery at all.

Indeed, it is far, far the most severely suffering country in the world, with many times the severity of China's suffering - though the Chinese population is many times greater than that of the U.S. And, despite the long, advance warning, it had no preparation, none whatever for the disaster. For all of Trump's accusation, the government of China has been far, far more effective than the U.S. (Similarly, Britain is a severe disaster - and for the same lazy, inactive preparations.)

When I say the U.S. (and Britain) never made the preparations they should have (and though Trump has constantly blamed this disaster on China, The U.S. and Britain never made the slighest preparation. The result is that both Britain and the the U.S.now depend on Russia and China for supplies of medical equipment.)

Nor is the problem just Trump. Despite his rise in the polls, Democrat Joe Biden has been no better than Trump in taking any lead. Both of them are concerned only with serving the super rich who supply them with money. Indeed, a major activity of both Republicans and Democrats is accepting millions in bribes to shovel more money in the pockets of the super rich.

Result - the U.S. is not a democracy, and there seems it never will be.

Canada, alas, is not so different. Both Liberals and Conservatives have concentrated on giving huge sums to the super rich. Canada might have a slight advantage oever the the U.S. in this because for all it's slobbering to the greed of the super rich, the Liberals were a little quicker in seeing the danger here.. Even he premier of Ontario is showing signs of life.

However, there is a bigger surprise waiting for Canada. As Canadian oil becomes
less marketable and, in any case, less desirable, Canada and Alberta are both punmping money into the pockets of the super rich.

That is our tax money that they are handing over to people who are not suffering and who never pay that tax money that we desperately need to keep our society livable.

So what will happen? We will never see that money again. The oil industry in Canada will fold. The billionaires will scamper off with our money,

The oil fields? Cleaning them up will cost many, many billions. But none of that money will come from the oil billionaires. Nor will they pay for any of the cleanup of those oil fields. Will that be a problem for the rest of us?

You can bet it will. Estimates for the length and cost of the cleanup? Estimates run as high as 2700 years. And the cost is greater than anyone can count. (or that anyone is likely able to pay.)

When China experienced all this, it acted quickly. And it acted on behalf of all the people of China.

The U.S. has not begun to act. Canada is not much better. As for the American people, the U.S. has simply abandoned them. And, again, Canada is not much better.

Oh, and Canada and the U.S. have far the longest border in the world. Even the Canadian and American armed forces would have a little chance of controlling the flight of Americans to Canada. But don't worry about that. A bigger danger is more likely.

China is rising very quickly to be the world's economic leader. American capitalists have to counter that.- and a few years could be a few too late.
The temptation of American capitalists will be to go for a nuclear war while they still have an edge.

That really won't be a salvation for anybody. Such a war would be one of massive destruction on all sides. But the temptation of American capitalists could well be to go for it while they still can.

And that's only a small part of the world changes we have to get ready for.

A  couple of things are worth noticing at this point.

One is that CBC, though the best official news source in Canada is often a little feeble (as today) over its coverage of news. One reason for that is that CBC is sometimes vulnerable to political interference. Rabble.ca is not.

A major reason for that is Karl Nerenberg, a founder of   Rabble.ca. Through most of his career he was an oustanding parliamentary reporter for CBC. And I'm sure he must have been under pressure, probably often, from political interference/ And that, probably, is what led him to be a founder of Rabble as a more independent news source.

The other thing worth noticing is that China has been growing rapidly as a an economic competitor to the U.S. That's why U.S. big business (and almost all American politicians) have been preparing for war with China for many years. This has been true since 1945 when the British got kicked out after generations of brutal rule. And that is when the Americans got a shock. The American army in Korea was really there to invade China - and Chinese troops stopped it cold.

Since then, American leaders have been obsessed with helping the billionaires to rule China - and they have steadily lost as China is now at least the second power, economically, in this world - and growing rapidly.

American billionaires are desperate for the destruction of China as an economic competitor.

But the U.S. has been showing for many years that, for all the size of its army and for all it's world record spending on war, it's not very good at it ---think North Korea.    Think Vietnam. Think Afghanistan. Think a Middle East where the U.S. is challenged not just by the people of the Middle East, but by both China and Russia.

No. If the U.S. is determined to go to war (with China and, probably,Russia) it is going to have to go nuclear. And if it does,   everyone will go nuclear. And we will, most of us, be destroyed. There will be no winner.

But that is what the U.S.  has been planning for 75 years. And it  knows that the final war must be very soon - or never.
