As I was preparing, after many hours, to push 'publish' to my last blog, it all vanished. This has happened three times this week. Each time, I had saved the document many, many times as I typed it. So I am told I can find them. And I hope to learn how to do that tomorrow.
Meanwhile, here is the rather lengthy piece I wrote (three times) without luck. It began with what the two world wars were really about. The missing part is about the determination of American capitalists to conquer the world. And no, that is no exaggeration. They haven't even attempted to hide their intention.
It starts with strange behaviour by the U.S. before it entered World War 2.
Before the war, Hitler had a strong audience among American capitalists (and many other Americans - and many of the British upper class. ) They saw him as a barrier against Russian expansion, and against any rise of communism in Europe. And they had no objection to his death camps for Jews. British, American and Canadian governments had a dreadful hatred of Jews. And, contrary to myth, they knew all about the death camps well before the war even started.
Even the creation of Israel was not begun out of any love for Jews. It was done in hope of getting rid of them from our countries. (Since then, Israelis have been useful in solidifying American and Saudi power in the region. And will possibly be useful in solidifying the power of American oil capitalists in the region.)
In the first two and a half years of World War Two, Americans were most interested in China. For many generations, the British upper class had brutally plundered China. It had made the Chinese work for British capitalists - often for no pay. It had forced China to smother it's people in opium, all of it coming from near-slave farmers that were also owned by the wealthy British. However, early in the war Japan was taking over in China. What a wonderful chance for American capitalists! At last, they could take over control of China's vast resources and cheap labour. And, at last, they could get control of the British opium trade.
But most Americans saw no reason for a war that would be with the opium empire and with Japan. So Roosevelt had to invent one that looked like a Japanese threat.
Japan was heavily dependent on American oil for it's wars. So Roosevelt cut it off.
It worked - though at an unexpected price. Japan declared war on the U.S. by bombing Pearl Harbour. But that was no problem. The news media followed the line that this was all Japan's fault.
Alas! It was Mao's Chinese who conquered their own country. And that would cause another war.....
Meanwhile, a U.S. that hadn't cared when Britain was bombed, suddenly decided to become Britain's devoted ally. Again, this was a decision made by the oil capitalists. What a wonderful chance to steal the British connection with the oil fields of the middle east. Yes, Saudi Arabia would become a friend, too, as once he had been to the British. A strong beginning came in1948, when an Iran that had been bled dry for thirty years by the British, kicked them out and formed a democracy. Britain needed help to get back to it's plundering. So it asked the U.S.
Big mistake. The U.S. helped by destroying the democracy, appointing a dictator,
and taking control of Iranian oil. It tooks years for Iran to get rid of the dictator, and install a democracy again. But by that time, the U.S. had control of most of the oil fields - and is now looking for a war with Iran. Later, the U.S. would also conquer Iraq, killing more than one and a half million people, mostly civilians and children.
In sum, U.S. capitalists had decided that they would conquer the world. The U.S. would become the greatest empire in history. And the first target for that, in 1950, was Korea.
Oh, they claimed to be fighting to defend democracy in South Korea. In fact, South Korea was not a democracy. It was a dictatorship made up of those who had collaborated with the Japanese in World War Two. And the U.S. kept them in power for many years after the Korean War.
The real purpose of the Korean War was to capture North Korea as a base to conquer the jewel of Asia - China. Canada and much of Europe joined the war because they all now depended on American power - just as Canada had depended on British power until 1945. And Canadians are really now a part of the American empire. They ignore its brutality and thievery in Latin America
.And, indeed, Canadian capitalists happily join them in their plundering.
That's why Canada bombed Libya at the demand of the U.S. (Did Canada, like the U.S., emphasize the bombing of civilians in Libya? Almost certainly, Americans were in command of the operation.)
That's why Canada kissed the star-spangled banner and sent Canadians to die in a quite illegal war in Afghanistan. (In fact almost all American wars - over thirty of them since 1945 - have been illegal under international law.) That's why we never criticize the U.S. for it's mass murders in Latin America. That's why North American news media - ALL of them - never reported the slaughter of 200,000 innocent Guatemalans in the 1950s and 60s. It was carried out by George Bush Sr. using 'mercenaries'. These are thugs that countries rent from killer agencies.
The U.S. since 1945 has been the most impossible nation to attack. It is too far from any attackers. It has the highest expenditures in history for weapons and armies. That's why it can't properly operate it's public schools. That's why most Americans cannot possibly afford medical care. That's why the veterans of American wars suffer extremely high levels of suicide for what they've seen and done.
And American (and most Canadian) news media? What a dead loss To add to their usual lying, they now carry columns written by 'Think Tanks' like Canada's Frazer Institute. There are over 1600 such 'think tanks' in the U.S.
If you want to sample one, just check out Canadian newspapers like The Last Post chain or the Irving Press in New Brunswick.
But the game is coming close to an end. The U.S. has been losing ground, especially in Asia, to both Russia and China. And that is why Trump has us all on the edge of nuclear war.
Is the U.S. far enough away to survive that? Maybe. For now. But that won't last.
And even if it could last, it would not survive a world in horrible chaos.
And now, finger crossed.......I shall send this without risking disaster by proofreading.
