Many years ago when the world was young, I was going to be a Christian clergyman in one of the standard Christian churches. I'm glad it never happened. Even in those days, the Christians were the most bloody-minded people in history. There was the British Empire - the French and Dutch and Spanish and Portuguese empires - and now the American empire - of which Canada is a colony.
When European Jews tried to flee Europe in the 1930s and 40s, it was the Christians who blocked them. Over the years, Christians have murdered in the hundreds of millions. That's a strange record for people who are supposed to believe in "Thou shalt not kill." It also throws into confusion our enthusiasm for torture. George Bush sr. not only tortured and murdered hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians and clergy, he (like his murderous son) belonged to a Christian church.
Have you heard much on this from your church? No. I didn't think so
So, in that sense it may be good news that the older family of Christian churches is dwindling. Alas, the bad news is that rising Christian churches are the fundamentalist ones. And these are the ones who offer the biggest support to Donald Trump.
Why are they the spreading ones?
One reason, I think, is their obsession with getting into heaven. For many, eternity in heaven is the only goal they have. And once you believe in Jesus, snap your fingers because that's all that matters. Praise the Lord. That done and you assured of a seat in the clouds, you can murder, plunder, torture, enslave all you like. Just believe that Jesus is the son of God. Then there ain't nuthin' else that you can't do. And it's those self-seeking ranks that provide much of the Trump support. (Mind you, the older ones were big on killing foreigners too.)
That's why both the U.S. and Britain have lines in their imperial songs of joy that God wants us to kill.... "God who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet."
Yep. Murdering is all part of God's wonderful plan.

It's true, of course. If the Iran elite units are terrorists, the U.S. military is terrorist - and far, far worse in its terrorism. In Yemen, for example, it has killed tens of thousands of children by starvation. It is now starving children and adults in Venezuela. The rise of Hitler has always been presented to us as the rise of an evil individual. Evil he was. But individual?
Hitler and his policies were made possible by the enthusiastic support of western capitalists and the politicians they owned. Henry Ford was the most notorious and public one. To them, a Germany governed by a Hitler would keep Marxism at bay, and protect capitalism. That's why capitalists in Britain and Germany and France and the U.S. were very kind to Hitler.
The knew what they were doing. They knew, from the start, about Hitler's persecution, beating and murder of Jews. (In fact, many shared his racist hatred of Jews. That's why, at the end of the war, the victorious powers were very, very slow to help the Jews. That's why, even today, Israel does not trust it's 'friends'.)

I include the next entry because I have never had a full understanding of the issue of Brexit.
But it's clear that Britain is in a crisis worse than any in centuries. Funny thing, though. The Canadian media don't seem to give much of a damn. Nor do Canadians in general.
In the Boer War and two world wars, Canadians rallied to aid Britain. Yes. It was patriotic to do so. Those who signed up to serve the king were people of honour. Imperial patriotism was sacred.
But no more. Funny how patriotism can change - just like that (snap).
Ever since Korea, we have served the United States. England is starving? England is dying? Who cares?
Canada is now a colony of the U.S. Our patriotism now is at the disposal of Donald Trump, and only of Donald Trump. That's why we have, since 1950, served and died in Korea, Afghanistan, and many, many small affairs such as the bombing of Libya.
Let's face reality. Patriotism should be wonderful - but it's almost always a sucker's game. Wait for the very likely announcement that we shall be serving our American masters in Venezuela.

This may answer a lot of questions. It has been rare, very very rare, for any society to be made up of equals. Egypt, Rome, Greece. all European countries have been built around their leadership class. And the leadership class has always ruled purely for itself.
For hundreds of years that British have heaped wealth on a Royal Family that has shown few flashes of brains or abilities in all those centuries. And the British are bogged down in titles like sir, lord, duke, earl, none of which require any brains. But the upper levels all get to sit in the House of Lords just as if they had normal intelligence.
The U.S. was NOT founded on equality. George Washington was probably the richest man in the country. The governments of Canada have always been open to the wishes of Canada's UNequal. They have the right to hold on to wealthy for generations, to become corporate bosses because their fathers were. The richest man in New Brunswick has power - not because he has any great education or insights. He is up with the leadership class because he was born into it.
That's why a few are very, very rich, and millions of the rest live in poverty. That's why a few students go to very expensive private schools with small classes, and the rest of us are herded into overstuffed classrooms.
Once one has the wealth, it is carried over for generations - just like royal families. We're running short of royal families. But we're still up to our ears in brainless corporate bosses..

We are very happy to be able to advise that we are making progress in reestablishing the website on servers located in Iceland. In 2010, the parliament unanimously passed the Icelandic Modern Media Initiative, which mandates the establishment of robust free speech and press freedom laws, particularly for the protection of investigative journalists and outlets.
