Take this seriously. The U.S.believes it has the right to rule the world. It has the right to impose its version of democracy on nations that don't want it. Indeed, American democracy itself is largely a farce in which presidents are, in fact, chosen and bought by the wealthy.
Accompanying this we have John Bolton, a very cranky, judgmental, and crashingly ignorant old fart who believes the only worthwhile political values are those he composes in his own twisted mind.
He wants now to crush the Cuban government because it is not the same as that wretched lot we call the American government. And, no coincidence, Cuba is very close to the U.S.
Canada is close to the U.S. We have programmes objectionable to an old crank like Bolton. Can Canada come under the American gun?
It will.
I'm not exaggerating here. Read the U.S. political speeches. Note how determined the very wealthy Americans are determined to get the world that they want. And it's a world that has no room for medicare, for example. It has no room for controls of any sort on big business.
This is an ideology of pure greed. There is no room for 'the people' in the American agenda. The ideology of greed has no room for ordinary people. Now, it has John Bolton, a crackpot by any standard I can think of and an intolerant bullying crank who is the man Trump chose as his senior cabinet member. It's not hard to see Bolton being teamed up with the United Conservative Party.
We are in one hell of a dangerous tunnel. And it's not the mass of the American people who have put us there. It's the billionaire class that took over control of American politicians a long time ago.

We are very, very close to nuclear war. And there is not the slightest chance of any real survival. There would be no winner. But there are people, especially in the U.S., who are looking forward to it.

The first thing we should have done in 1945 was to settle on peace as a normal condition. Instead, the decisions were made to kill us all. In 1945, we should have come together. It was surely clear that, soon, none of us would survive a nuclear war. Soon has come. But we have done nothing to deal with war. Instead, we (particularly the U.S.) has been constantly killing - and all of that killing to satisfy the greed of its billionaires.

This is the most depressing issue of the blog I have ever written.
All the wealth of all the world is being gathered into the arms of a very few people They need billions to be happy. So they plunder the meager incomes of billions of the population (and who they keep poor).
Do they have a need for that money? Not likely. Indeed it would take millions of years for them to spend that money. The result is a world population that ranges from desperate down to dying.
The only way this game can go on is increase the plundering every year. And as they do it, they murder millions and starve hundreds of millions at least.
What to make of a man like Jason Kenney of Alberta? He has no significant training in climate sciences. But he has decided to ignore the opinions of all the major authorities in the world. He has even threatened the David Suzuki Foundation if it disagrees with him. So much for democracy.
He plans to develop Alberta oil - for many, many years to come. So much for ever dealing with climate change. On the advice of billionaires who know nothing about climate change we are setting out to make Alberta unlivable. Ditto much of the rest of the world.
As it is, we face a 275 billion dollar price to clean up the oil fields. Do you think the oil barons will pay for that? Good luck.
Do you think premier Jason Kenney is a scientific authority climate change? So far, I've not seen that he's an authority on anything. Kenney is greedy and, I should think, stupid and utterly without moral values. The billionaires who paid his way to victory are without doubt, greedy and stupid - and indifferent and indifferent to any needs of humanity.
(Have you ever seen a report of any of those oil barons explaining why oil is good for us?) Not likely. These oil barons are, by any standard, ignorant and without any morality.
And that takes us to the population of Alberta. Those who voted for Kenney must be a rare collection of louts. Seriously. They have decided that they are smarter than the world scientists.
Hitler was evil? He comes nowhere close to the evil of the oil industry and its destruction of human life.
And the rest of us are damn fools to sit here with our faces hanging out.
