Well, you can be sure that none of these billionaires will be poor as a result of their donations. I am reminded of the New Brunswick oil billionaire who gave a (much, much smaller) donation to the poor. The province's wanna be billionaires gave him a lavish dinner, and the local newspapers (owned by the billionaire) wet their pants in pages of praise.
And the billionaire is, of course, one of those who doesn't pay income taxes. In fact, he doesn't pay much in the way of property taxes, either. He lets the poor do that.
The Guardian does have it's bad moments. But when it's good, it's very, very good.

"A definite creep:a probable rapist" That's how most of our press describes Assange. The fact is that this label equally applies to - say - Donald Trump. In any case, being a creep is not a crime. And we have not seen that he is a 'probable' rapist.
This is really all part of a hate campaign to find excuses for the U.S. to punish him. They have said very little about their real hatred of him - which was of exposing facts the government didn't want the people know about.

Of course American soldiers killed women and children. Indeed, those have been the major casualties in almost all wars the U.S. has fought. This goes back to the days of slaughtering native peoples. It became official policy with the bombing of Dresden in World War 2, and it has been increased in every war since then.
In Korea, women and children were the major casualties. We blamed Hitler's Germany for starting it with Guernica in Spain. In fact, the pioneer of it in the twentieth century was Winston Churchill who had nothing but contempt for 'inferior peoples'. That's why he ordered a regular bombing of Kurd villages that had no defences in 1920.

This has been a dreadful news day. So let's do a little bit of thinking.
The U.S. is an empire. Of course it is. Indeed, it always has been - murdering millions, stealing their lands and resources. The U.S. has murdered at least 20 million people - most of them, usually, civilians and children. It has invaded and murdered and set up dictatorships in almost all of Latin America.
Since 1945, Britain has been a colony of the American empire. It jumps in eagerly to help Americans fight their wars. It invariably supports whatever the US wants it to at the UN. When Trump decided to invade Venezuela, he had the support of 50 or 60 European countries who had no business interfering. But the U.S. told them to jump and they jumped.
Let's not kid ourselves. Canada was a colony of the British empire. That's why it joined our British masters to kill Boer farmers in South Africa. But that ended when the British empire collapsed (with American help). When Trump made it clear he intended to invade Venezuela, our colonial prime minister Trudeau jumped up to cheer. Is it possible Canada will send troops to Venezuela?
It is very possible. And we will murder people to please our U.S. masters. In fact, we already have in Afghanistan, Haiti, Syria, Libya - and other places.
The U.S. expects we will fight its wars when it tells us to. And when climate change becomes severe enough, it will simply add Canada to be American states.
Yes. That is exactly what will happen.
And Europeans aren't dumb. They have no desire to be American colonials. And their only alternatives are Russia and China.
And the Christian churches? I don't think they've ever seen a war they didn't like.
As the British Empire murdered 350 million people, stole their land, impoverished the rest to be British slaves, the British (and Canada/British) churches cheered.
And the Canadian churches still cheered when they launched into an illegal war with Afghanistan - and Libya - and Syria - and Haiti - happily killing to please Canada's masters.
(In fact, I can't think of any war in history in which the Christian churches disapproved of our sending troops. Indeed, the churches were often on both sides in World War Two in Europe. The churches supported our side, of course. But they also supported Hitler in Germany and Mussolini in Italy.)
When it comes to war, you can expect a moral vacuum on both sides.
No. This is not a cheerful blog. In reality, we are governed by some of the worst murderers in history. These people happily murder civilian women and children. In fact, they are not the major targets. That happened in Iraq and Guatemala among many others.
Our economic and political leaders are, as a group, the most vicious, rapacious, immoral people once could possibly encounter. They are also very stupid, stupid and greedy and vicious with no limits as they head us straight into economic catastrophe.
Our churches have long ago become useless or, worse, the puppets of the billionaires. Trump's support is a good example of that. We have been made into a people who are taught to hate and to fear; we have tremendously increased racism.
And if this continues, we crash into economic disaster unless a world nuclear war cuts it all short. And a world nuclear war is exactly what Trump is playing with.
