 75 years after the war in which Canadians died, we were told, to bring peace and freedom to the world, we have actively been destroying peace and freedom all over the world.

(A recent statement from the Canadian Legion, our veterans association, maintains  that we have brought  peace and freedom. But that's because the Canadian Legion has long since been an organization that serves the very, very wealthy, and has long since given up the defence of those  values were were told we were fighting for  75  years ago.)

The first example of all those things our fathers and grandfathers (yes, and many mothers and grandmothers) fought for was South Korean democracy. I'm old enough to remember some of those who fought and some who died. 516 died.

I knew some when I got my first job as a mail boy at Bell Telephone. They talked about the war as fun. In fact, they had no idea what it was about.

To defend South Korean democracy? Like hell. South Korea was not a democracy. It was a dictatorship by those who had supported Japan in World War Two.  That was South Korea before the war, during it and for years after it.

And a high proportion of the Canadians who died were teen-agers who didn't understand that when they went  - and the living ones probably still don't  understand it.

The real purpose of the war? It was to enable the U.S. to have a base for the invasion of China.  To free China? Of course not. The idea was to hand over China to the U.S. so American big business could plunder China as the British had.

Where the hell was the leadership of The Canadian Legion as that happened? Did it defend the interests of those Canadians who were dying to make wealthy Americans wealthier? Of course it didn't. It never has. The leaders of the Legion sent young, naive Canadians to die because that is what they have always done. And, in the same way, they cheered them on to die in Afghanistan. And no doubt it will cheer again if the U.S. asks for it to kill Iranians or Venezuelans or Cubans.

From its start, the leadership of the Legion has seen its role as kissing  up to the wealthy who make money out of war.

We are heading into the most dangerous period this earth has ever known. This has been coming since the German surrender in 1945. I well remember that day. The U.S. completed most of its mass murder in Latin America to hold its people in starvation and cheap labour.

Canada, almost from the start, accepted its role as an American puppet. Canada killed to  please American and Canadian capitalists. We are now so close to serving the greed of our capitalists that we are allowing them to destroy us. (Check out lumbering and forest sprays (poisons.)

Canada has produced a new generation of capitalist pimps in the shape of the Conservative Party. And they kiss up to their thieving brethren  in American politics and business.

And for 75, these buccaneer capitalists have been stealing the money of all of us.
There is, for a start, the grandest theft in history in which we have enabled major capitalists to take and hide ALL of our tax money. This money we desperately need for health, education, housing, elder care. But they don't give a damn. This is heading us deep into trouble as it creates declining income for all the rest of us - and hardship - and early death. Wake up. This is actually happening. It's not something I made up. We are being robbed. We and our children are being looted.

And no party has come out with an answer to our creation of a world of greed and hunger and misery.

Coping with change? No. We're drifting with lies and hatreds. We're destroying ourselves.

I didn't take much news from Canada because there isn't a whole lot to take.
The Liberals have shown virtually no activity on anything. And to propose an oil pipeline in the west at this point in our history is idiocy. Conservatives of whatever branch of that party are dedicated only to giving more and more of our tax money to billionaires so they can spend it on - well, they won't tell us what it's on. But our children find out when they go to school; our sick will find out as they line up for our hospitals, the homeless will find out...

The Greens and NDP? I like them more or less, though their policies come nowhere close to dealing with the general values of their parties. We are in a state that we can't fix with with band-aids. The super wealthy are our enemies. Don't kid yourself.  And they also control most of the news media which are our sources of information.

You can't make deals with people like this. And they are the ones who are holding millions of Canadians in poverty, who steal billions of our tax dollars every year so we cannot offer services this country needs

Dealing with this - and surviving - is what we have to do. We have not done it in a hundred of fifty years of this country. And, over the years, our control over our own country and our own lives has been lessening.

The very wealthy are not our friends.

Recently, I had to write a newspaper column for Jason Chenney the Conservative premier of Alberta. Our wealthy whom we, incredibly, allow to pocket billions of dollars of what should be tax money, spit in our faces, and take even more. We are impoverishing ourselves while the very rich happily watch. Most of our politicians govern only to kiss the boots of the very rich.

Many of us will die killing for our billionaires.

We are on the edge of a great war with most of Africa, very possibly with China and with Russia, very possibly wars with no parades at the end.

August 08: Last Call.....

Of course we're getting a lot of violence mixed in with our politics these days.
That happens when politicians play the race card - and when so many of our politicians have nothing to offer. This is particularly true in the U.S. of almost all Republicans - and large numbers of Democrats. In Canada, it's true of the Conservatives and Liberals.

And that means we could be heading into some very violent times.

Canada is in serious trouble  - and at a time when it has not given any thought to the challenge facing us.

Dealing with climate change is not a simple matter of saying we're going to do - something. We've given close to no thought of the problems that will create.
If we're going to do anything serious, it was to include a very sudden shift away from oil for transportation, for heat. And no, we can't take twenty years to do it.
We have to deal somehow  with hundreds of millions of people already refugeed by lack of food. We have to stop a twit like Trudeau from kissing up to the US by being it's 'ally'. We going to have to figure out how to get food to much of the world. We have to go back to  1945 and set up a world of cooperation (which we didn't do in 1945.)

Refugees? There are lots on the way, and we can't drown them all.

The reality is that we must take on the largest task in history just to survive. And, no, building a pipeline with government money  won't be enough to do it. Nor will we accomplish anything if we rely on a blustering ass like premier Kenney of Alberta.

Nor can we let billionaires walk out with their pockets bulging with the tax money they don't pay. (Nor can we leave it up to our billionaires to shoulder the task or any part of it.)

We have to change our whole way of looking at society. Throughout history, we have lived by systems with very, very rich people as leaders. And these, by the force of arms, have forced the rest of us to obey them.  That is the history of government in this world. We cannot afford to do it any more. But it's obvious this project is the biggest in history, the most complex, and the one we have barely looked at in thirty years.

We can't let our existing forms of government take control. In much of the world, government is largely mythical. In the U.S, in Canada, real government is by the very wealthy who pay  off the government. And that isn't going to get us anywhere.

In all the years we have known about this, our governments have done close to nothing. And this is even worse because the job is so much bigger than it sounds.
If we had a hundred years to deal with it (and we almost certainly don't) it wouldn't be enough.

In the coming five years or so, I can't imagine the Liberals getting much past building pipelines. And the Conservatives (of whatever label) have done less, even much less.

We haven't a moment to waste on wars. Pipelines are insane. This is the greatest task ever undertaken in human history. Indeed, we don't even know how deep this crisis goes. It's not just that we have to get oil out of our lives. It's also that we have to change our whole, human social structure all over the world.

And how much time to we  have? Nobody has any idea.

And who will lead us? Evidence is neither the Conservatives nor the Liberals will. And evidence is Canadians will go on voting for horse's asses like the Liberals and Conservatives.

And even the billionaires will die.

And that  raises another question we have not dealt with. Climate change raises another huge problem our leaders (especially Conservatives) refuse to discuss. It has already displaced tens of millions of people. Europe has accepted some - albeit in dreadful conditions. But the policy now is to just let them drown at sea or die of hunger at home.

The U.S.-Mexico border is similar. Contrary to Trump's statement, Latin Americans are not fleeing to the U.S. to murder Americans and push drugs. (Americans don't need any help with that. In fact, they could teach Latins how to do it.) These people are fleeing the poverty that the U.S. has created in Latin America with low wages, puppet governments, and an army of hired thugs that are called the CIA.

The  numbers of these refugees are steadily rising as climate change and our greed destroy their homeland. And, in that case, the west could go on kicking them out to drown. Some studies put their numbers as high as a  billion. Any thoughts on the Canadian response?

Perhaps we could ask premier Doug Ford of  Ontario and his Conservative party. Or we could ask the Conservative, greedy twit politicians.......

There are monstrous problems that are going to come down on us soon. And solving them will be far more difficult than kicking life rafts out to sea.

I have shortened the blog because for the last few days I have been a very sick little boy, and scarcely in this world. I hope to be better in a  couple of days.

August 3:It's not just climate change. It's us.

Our politicians just love to give glib talks about how they'll deal with climate change (which they may or may not think is happening.) But it's not that easy.

In parts of Africa and Asia, climate change is already causing mass starvation. And so the people flee. (They have a double reason to flee as we inflict the horrors of war on them.)  In their terror, they buy places on rafts and, jammed on these, they float to Europe.

At first, Europe grudgingly accepted them - though usually in crammed and vile refugee camps. But now it doesn't do even that. It kicks the rafts back out to sea where the refugees die of hunger and/or drown.

Much the same is happening in South America which has been plundered and brutalized for over a century by American billionaires. So far as the billionaires are concerned they are simply cheap, very cheap, labour, not worth educating or feeding. And this has made climate change all the more brutal for them.

This, not an urge to kill and rob Americans, is why these people are now at the American border. And the Americans, in imitation of the Europeans who kick them back into the sea, puts the adults into prison and the children into wire cages.

Mass movements in Europe and around the world are the products of climate change  - which destroys crops - and ruthless capitalism. The Liberals think they can solve this with patchwork legislation. The Conservatives think they can solve this by saying it isn't happening.

At present, this disaster affects something like a hundred million people. Soon, very soon, that will be hundreds of millions and, quite likely, a billion. Try kicking those back out to sea.

Back in 1945, we were going to create a world based on international cooperation and respect. We didn't do it. Now - we act very soon or drown in our own sea of economic greed that we call capitalism.  All the signs are that we have chosen the latter.

Dealing with climate change cannot simply be about climate change. Huge as it is, climate change is just one aspect of the world of greed and mass murder that we have created.

That's why churches in the U.S. have always supported the greed of capitalism, the mass murder of native people, nuclear weapons (for their side only), the savage treatment of Latin America, the racism of a Trump.....

Trump's faithful have always looked after themselves. They tend to be the born agains. So what the hell. They're okay. They've been splashed in the holy water so they've been saved. And getting saved, well, that's getting your ass covered for eternity. So they're covered no matter what. That's why it's quite acceptable to be a racist in the deep South.

I haven't seen much about it in the news media. But it looks as though Canada has made a boot licking commitment to the U.S. Some weeks ago Trudeau committed Canada to supporting the U.S. in its bullying of Venezuela.

Were the Canadian people consulted? Was parliament consulted?

These are important questions because when the U.S. gets nastier with Venezuela, we are likely to find ourselves committed to supporting the U.S. in its very illegal treatment of Venezuela. At best, we are now committed to support American violence in that country.

So, like the British in Iran, we could well be committed to kissing up to American oil companies and helping to invade Venezuela. ( Britain and Canada are now committed to pro-American support    Britain re Iran, and Canada re U.S. - which could mean anything - and which is none of our business. Indeed, if anything, Canada should be supporting Venezuela at the U.N. )

This has been a dreadful day of blogging for me. I cannot believe that Canadians are so dumb in their voting choices. About half of them are so irresponsible and so out of touch with any reality that they are voting Liberal or Conservative.

The world's leading scientists have agreed. We are facing a  climate  crisis. And we have little time. The Conservatives (who have offered no studies of their own - and who don't have the ability to do any)  deny this - and don't tell  us what their evidence is. Of course not. There is none.

The Liberals are scarcely better.

But, oh, the Liberals and the Conservatives are smarter than all the world's leading climate scientists. And the temperature rises of recent decades, some of the biggest in thousands of years, don't mean nuthin'. Of the two parties, the Liberals might be slightly, very slightly, better.

And Canadians are so foolish and  - oh, what the hell, stupid - that they are going to vote for one of these parties. ("my family has always voted for-- " fill in the       blank.)  It's frightening to have to live in the same world as people like that.

And the U.S. has gone completely off the rails with racism because so many white Americans ARE racists. It's now very likely that this will trigger racial wars within the U.S. And this storm of racism and hatreds will block social legislation that the U.S. is already many years behind on.

All that we said would make a better world back in 1945 has been discarded. And we never did it from the start. The world after 1945, like the world before it, has been notable for greed, mass murder, torture.....  And for the frightening lying of our news media - much of it owned by the same people who make money out of greed, mass murder, torture.

The U.S. has gone the furthest in this with money for killing being far the leader in its spending. Well, it really can't waste money on health or education. That would mean taxing the rich  - and they don't want to be taxed. So there.

This world is marching backward at the command of greed. And this time, the march goes off a cliff.

To prevent this is not a simple matter of voting.  It's immensely complicated as a hundred million or more people are already in danger - and that number could expand to a billion and more. It means rethinking what nations are all about. It means saving our oceans and their sea life. It means feeding many millions of the people we are allowing to starve.  It means accepting people, millions of them,     from crashing. It means restructuring the world as we didn't do - though we said we would - in 1945.

This is enormously complex affecting every aspect of our lives. (I'm an historian. I have no special knowledge of the complexities of all this. But one doesn't need to be a specialist to see that chaos that will come with such a mass movement of people. And that mass movement is happening and will happen much, much more.)

This world is facing, like it or not, massive  change. Change in attitudes to other religions, other races; changes to governance; changes in the attitudes it pleases us to call values.

We haven't even begun to think of what must be done. And we have very little time.

I really have no idea what Trump's policy toward Iran is. The original crisis was created by John Bolton. This, I think, must be the most depressing blog I have ever written. It's not just our leaders - as  corrupt and irresponsible as they are.

Canadian and American voters don't have a clue about what's going on. They never have had. At best, they believe our lying news media. That's how a handful of some of the greediest and irresponsible billionaires have risen to power.

Over 40% of American voters support Trump - a liar, a fool. And the Democrats are going for Joe Biden for president, a man who ideas were old and corrupt centuries ago.

And large numbers of Canadians are drifting to the Conservatives - a party bathed in corruption - and the Liberals who do a better job of disguising their corruption.

The world that was going to be changed in 1945 never happened. Instead, we have had 70 years of corruption - and, since 1950 - continual plundering of the Canadian and American people.

So what will happen after the elections? Non-stop wars,  continuing abuse of the American and Canadian people and, very possibly, one hell of a world, economic crash.

Americans and Canadians have to learn how to think - and develop the guts to act.

Let's be real. We live in a world dominated by greed and privilege. It's always been that way. It was like this in the middle ages. It  was like this in Ancient Rome. And the pattern repeats itself. The greedy and privileged assume power (and call it civilization.) Then, driven by its own greed, the privileged class sends itself crashing down.

This is what is happening to Britain today.  That is what is happening to the U.S. And to Canada. A sample of Canada's decline?

We have an election coming up. The Liberals have been no  wunderkind. But the Conservatives are even worse. And the Canadian vote is drifting to the Conservatives. It may be our dreadful news media that have kept Canadians so ignorant. But whether they go Liberal or Conservative, we're toast. The reality is that Canadians are crashingly ignorant of their own society - and their news media are a big reason for that.

And the news media, most of them, are owned by greedy and lying billionaires, all of whom support only Liberals and/or Conservatives.
