Wednesday was the first day of  the federal election. The big issue that emerged  was  Trudeau's lying about his SNC Lavalin deal. Do the politicians think we are very, very stupid? Apparently so.

All the people who understand about it have been warning that our    planet is on its way to destruction - and with all of us who live on it going down with it. But the two major parties, one of which is sure to be the winner, haven't mentioned it.

Are we all crazy?

Our life on this planet ends - and it is likely to be sooner than we expect. And Canadians are seriously concerned about the Lavalin  deal? Get real.

When it comes to government  corruption (as in Lavalin).  the Conservative party, like the Liberal party, has over 150 years  of gross corruption. And you know and I know that those parties are not going to change.

Hey. The world ends. And it's not far. Does nobody give a damn? Certainly, the Canadian people don't. It's hard to believe that a whole nation - indeed, a whole world - can be that stupid. And, oh, stupid is a small word for all that.

The whole world has been in collapse since 1945. A major cause of that is the murderous greed of capitalism - and the power of capitalists to control almost all of our news media.

And most of them use that power to spread lies and propaganda. The model for that is the National Post, founded by Conrad Black. I got to know him when he and I were young, and both of us were 'regulars' on CBC.  The only person in the whole world he cared about was Conrad Black. In conversation with others, he would close his eyes, raise his chin - and not listen to anybody but himself.

Sept. 10:really bad times are on their way.

I've been looking at some pictures of life in Britain about 1900. For the poor - who were most of the population - life was vile. Boys and girls six and seven were sent to work in factories, or being lowered down into chimneys to sweep them. It was six days a week - and, get this, 16 hours a day for kids of six.

Commonly, then, there was no schooling. And therefore no hope for a better future.

Clothing was hand-me-downs,  ratty and filthy. They lived in vile flats, often just one room for the whole family. And no toilets. No running water.

Their parents were wretchedly dressed. Often the men couldn't afford boots. In winter, then, they had to walk to work with their feet wrapped in rags.

Medical care? Forget it. For a sample of that, we can remember a case in Canada where life could be just as brutally bad.

A seventeen-year old was working on a piece of machinery powered by belt-driven wheels. The belt snapped, and took off his arm. Management was immediately informed. It fired him on the spot, leaving it up to him to figure out how to get home.

Life was much different for the rich. Houses were large. There was a bathroom, sometimes several, with flush toilets. Clothing was of the best, and tailor made.
The children, too, wore only the best - often to the annoyance of those who had to wear such formal clothing all the time.

And the children would, of course, go to expensive schools to meet their own kind and prepare for their own lives of prosperity.

Why do I mention all this?

It's because all this happened in a Britain - and a Canada - and a U.S.
Indeed, most of the 'civilized' world was like this. The rich owned the governments. They had nothing but contempt for the mass of the people. There was, after 1945, a period of governing for the good of the people - all of them, not just the rich ones. But we have been reversing that for some years.

The U.S. government is on  a major campaign to cut back on public schools. And that means loss of opportunity and of a better life. We're now hearing noises about this in Canada, especially from the United Conservatives, our leading party of greed.

In fact, for the last twenty years and more, we've seen a steady erosion of opportunity for decent living. Our universities, like those of Britain in 1900,  are out of reach for most. The lack of affordable and decent housing has become a scandal. In general, our standard of living has been dropping for some time, while our billionaires are making the biggest profits in modern history.

The rich won't have to pay income tax. Why?  Premiers like Doug Ford actually give huge sums to billionaires, but are cutting back on school  lunches for the poor. (Bastard,)

This is happening. It's most noticeable in the United Conservative Party and, in the U.S., among Republicans. But it's also common among Liberals and many U.S.  Democrats (with some lovable exceptions.)

The very rich will do, I guess, what they have always done.  And we're into a full speed crash for our own destruction.

The leaders, by far, in the coming Canadian election are the Liberals - always servants of the very rich. And the  Conservatives - ditto. Indeed,  among those two, wretched parties, the Conservatives are, by quite a margin, the worst. (And it's very tough to be worse than the Liberals.)

The NDP and The Greens are several steps closer to intelligent. But it's going to take a lot more than   'several' steps.

Meanwhile, we are very close to a major war with China and, possibly, with Russia. Will Canada be expected to join? Yes. Will it join? Yes, if it's governed by either Liberals or Conservatives.

Will the world survive such a war?

Probably not.

There's a lot that's ugly about Canada as it faces a national election.

The platforms of our Liberal and Conservative parties are ugly (and shallow and ignorant) to a degree we've never seen before.

And racism is popping up. (French Quebec could not accept that anglos should be there. After all, the French were there first.) Duh..actually...the French were second (third if you count the brief appearance of the vikings.) The first, by far, were the aboriginal peoples who were either murdered by the French or had their land stolen from them. Now, Quebec racism is aimed at the Muslims who (horrors) cover their heads.

And, somehow, this all fits in with the ugliest and greediest election Canada has ever seen.

Have you heard of the Bilderberg Group? This is a very secretive organization of the very, rich who meet periodically with their flunkies around the world. The meetings are secret. But we know the basic idea. It exists to spread the word that democracy does not work, and that we would all be better off if the very rich ruled the world. (No. I'm not exaggerating.)

In fact, the super rich have been running the U.S. and Canada for a very long time. They've done it by buying off elected politicians. That's why billionaires are allowed to avoid taxes by hiding their money. (Think of the idiocy of that. Billionaires don't pay taxes. Meanwhile, the working class and the middle class of Canada and the U.S. have been getting poorer for a good fifty years but must pay taxes. Millions go hungry or ill, sleep on the streets, settle for third rate education, can't afford decent housing - while our billionaires sit on heaps of  money so great they could not be spent in a hundred lifetimes and more of great luxury.)

We, the whole world, have been almost constantly at war since 1950, murdering millions (while calling on God's blessings), creating fortunes for weapons manufacturers, starving millions. And, of course, it's our taxes - the rich, after all, don't pay taxes - and it's our sons and daughters who die in the wars.

When the hell are we going to wake up?

Obviously, it's not going to be in this election. (Look again at the opening sentence of this blog.)

Think about the Conservative sense of policy. The Conservatives openly believe that this world should be run by the very rich. That's why a Doug Ford can make necessary services give less to those who need them (like feeding children who otherwise get nothing) to give ever more money to all those very rich who don't pay income tax. Even better. He (and the Liberals) who don't give money to hungry children hand it out in millions to well-fed billionaires.

The Conservative party is one that will actively destroy Canada to kiss up to the very rich. And millions of Canadians, especially the poor ones, are going to vote for it.

The Liberals are less obvious about it. But they aren't much different.

The NDP and the Greens don't go nearly as far as they should in their policies. But they are not destructive as the Conservatives and Liberals are. And many of their ideas are quite sensible. And none of their ideas comes even close to the destructive policies of the Conservatives and Liberals.

And the Canadian people? Sigh. They vote like their mummies and daddies did for two, big parties that were born corrupt and the servants of the forever greedy.
Part of that, I guess, is the dishonesty of our news media and the lack of any substantial opposition to those news media.

I cannot imagine any result of this election which would be anything but disastrous. It is actually worse, much worse than the United States.

Oh, would things be better if the rich ruled the world? It's not a new idea. In fact, it has been the pattern of just about every society I have ever heard of, the pattern of all  the empires in history. And every one of them collapsed.

The wealthy have never liked the public schools. To them, the only point of any institution is to make money and, if possible, to make us peasants pony up some of that money (which could better be spent on public schools.)

The private schools are in for happy times under Alberta's United Conservatives.
And the public schools, the ones that give us all a chance? Who gives a damn!

My computer is playing strange games. In fact, it took me two hours of fiddling to get this sentence in as the blogger site simply vanished. So I shall finish with some brief notes below and, tomorrow, visit my local repair shop - again.

The tone of today's news is unmistakable.  Instead of taking advantage of the victories of 1945 to create an orderly and stable world, we launched into wars of aggression to please a small number of billionaires. That is what  Korea, Vietnam, Guatemala, the Iran war of the 1940s, Afghanistan and many, many other wars were about.

We crushed democracy (including our own) to satisfy the greed of our billionaires. Indeed, we may well be watching the final death throes of British democracy - and of Britain, itself.

We, as much as or more than Russia, perhaps more than China, have murdered so many millions of men, women and children  that nobody has a number for them. 10 million  would be a very modest estimate. But toss in the millions left to die, to starve in wars and neglect and starvation we encourage all over the world, and 20 million becomes a modest estimate.

We are governed by a very small number of billionaires who plunder not only all the world, but even their own countries. In the U.S, for example, the standard of living has been dropping for many years - something our news media don't report.

For no good reason, we  allow our very wealthy to pay no income taxes at all - which is why is cannot offer our children a world with adequate social services, opportunity, education.    (The U.S. cannot even treat it's sick - unless they're very rich.) Premier Ford of Ontario, for example, has had to make large cuts to university loans for the poor so it can cut even more taxes on the rich. For the same reason, he has cut  school lunches for all those children of Ontario who parents can't feed them. (As a child, I was often one of those, and the hatred still burns for those bastards like Ford.)

The very rich have been plundering the rest of us at a rapidly increasing rate for years. Thus the increase of those who sleep in the streets - including their children.

And us?

We just sit there with our faces hanging out as the very rich plunder the world. And we are slipping into an deeper hell as people flee the countries that our billionaires are plundering. They come to us. And we let them drown, or shove them into wire cages and prisons. And that is going to get much, much worse. We've not even begun to imagine the horror that is within a few years of now as our lives are governed by people whose only emotion is greed and whose cruelty is unlimited.

Canadians, in terms of seats, are going to vote heavily for Liberals and Conservatives. (This despite the fact that neither party has anything that could be called a policy.) And the NDP and  the Greens should be a lot tougher in the face of what's coming. We are controlled by plunderers and mass murderers. And our chances of avoiding nuclear wars are slim, indeed.

I don't exaggerate. That is the reality.

We have reached a level of evil that we can't imagine. And there is no significant force to oppose it.

Thanks to our billionaires, this is not the world that Canadians fought for in World War 2. I could wish our Canadian Legion could catch on to that. I could wish it had shown the courage (and intelligence to say, "hell, no. This is not what we fought for." (And, as an historian, I could wish our more noted military historians would discover more integrity and honesty.)

We have very, very little time to grow up.

Wow! That's Canada's big election issue?

Right. Who gives a damn about climate change?  Right? Who cares about Canada committing itself to help out American billionaire wars? Who cares that it will take uncountable billions of dollars to clean up the Alberta oil sands? (And will oil barons pay for that? Get real.)

But don't worry about it. Some estimates are it will take at least 2,000 years to clean it. And by then, long before then, oil will have destroyed us anyway.

Canadians, politically, are  drab and boring. The U.S. for all the horror of the Republicans and many, many of the Democrats at least have a Bernie Sanders who looks at reality and what is needed to deal with it.

(Canadians have the NDP and the Greens. But neither has been able to spark a response such as Sanders has.) From coast to coast, Canadians support the  Liberals and the Conservatives - neither of which has a coherent policy on anything - and both of which are the puppets of billionaires.

Climate change is real. Climate change is going to kill all of us. Human life on this planet will end. In the process of that , there will be some years of unspeakable horror as refugees pour out of stricken regions - and we drown them or shoot them.

This is what virtually all of our leading scientists in the whole world are telling us.  And this is what we see and experience in record temperatures and failing harvests around the world every year.

And who do Canadians listen to? Well, there's the Conservative party which is owned by billionaires. And the Liberal party which is owned by billionaires.

And what qualification do billionaires have to make these decisions?

None. None whatever. They don't even pretend to have any. And most of our newspapers, which are owned by billionaires, scarcely mention it. Canada is papered over with billionaires who own oil fields - and owners of Last Post press and the scandalously trivial and lying Irving Press of New Brunswick.

These people don't even pretend to offer opinions of what is happening to our world. How could they? They have no training whatever to do so. And in any case, all that counts with them is profit - now.

The Conservative party is probably the most ignorant and lying party in Canada.
It quite openly exists to serve the very, very rich. I well remember the statement by the current premier of Alberta, Jason Kenney. He said that handing out money to billionaires was good because they would create jobs in Alberta.

What a bozo he must be!

If we give money to billionaires, they will spend it where it's best for them. They might spend it in one of the virtual slave colonies of Latin America, or one of those we have created in Africa. Or they might spend it in bribing Canadian politicians to give them even more.

(What they are not going to spend it on is cleaning up the oil mess they have created in Alberta. And some day that will have to be cleaned so that the region is livable again. But that will cost unknown billions of dollars. And get this, it could take 2,000 years.)

Jason Kenney might be many things. But intelligent is not one of them.

Then you have the intellectually disadvantaged Conservative premier of Ontario, Doug Ford, whose career has been devoted to cutting services to the general population so he can give handouts to billionaires.

The Canadian people have been electing these clowns from the start.

The Liberals are essentially the same party as the Conservatives. But some will say that at least they have begun to deal with climate change. Duh, well....

We have been warned about climate change for over thirty years. And we haven't paid the slightest attention. Trudeau's proposals come very, very late - and they may not come at all. In fact, Trudeau has led the way with an oil pipeline so we can go on pumping and poisoning our country for many years - and at the expense of the tax payers.

Let's wake up. Scientists (who have actually studied the subject) have estimated our children will suffer the consequences. Indeed, millions are suffering the consequences even now as croplands and food supplies are destroyed.

And what is the big issue the Liberals and Conservatives are concerned with? Well, it seems that Trudeau acted improperly in giving large sums of money to SNY Lavalin. The Conservatives are shocked.

Right.

The Liberals and the Conservatives were both founded as a means of handing out money, often improperly, to the wealthy.Neither party has ever been honest. Conservative John A. Macdonald was a master of corruption and bribery. Ditto for the early Liberals - and the present ones.

And these are the only two parties that Canadians have voted to real power.

The Liberals and the Conservatives are hopelessly corrupt, always have been.

This has really run out of any control in the last 30 or 40 years. It's one thing to be corrupt. But in recent years, both Canada and the U.S. have seen an accelerated drift of the money of all us into the pockets of the very rich. The Liberals do it. The Conservatives, like Doug Ford and Jason Kenney, openly steer huge gifts to to the wealthy. Ford, for example, cuts universal services like education in order to hand out more money to the rich. The rich have also been freed of paying income taxes and, increasingly, they are getting off property taxes. They also get free handouts from the Liberals and Conservatives.

Most Canadians and Americans have been getting poorer for some years now as the rich get richer on political handouts. And there is no end to this drift into poverty.

The rich, especially in the U.S., also benefit from massive arms sales and from government connections, to get wars fought for them. 
Remember - they don't pay taxes - so they don't pay for those wars. Result - though nobody has attacked the U.S. in the last 70 years and more, it has attacked many nations (some say 40; but the number of unrecorded attacks is much higher).

How many have American billionaires - sometimes with Canadian help - killed since 1945. Nobody knows. The official figure is something over ten million. But that doesn't count the millions we've starved to death, especially the children.

And when the U.S. needs support, it calls on countries like Canada to help out with wars like Korea, Afghanistan, the overthrow of the government of Haiti, training in Syria - and more, much, much more to come.

We sent Canadians to die in wars that had nothing to do with us. And when their bodies came home, we paraded then on 'highways of heroes'. And so they were - but we were damn fools to have sent them in the first place - and there's more coming.

Those wars  (and other involvements such as Venezuela and our troops on the Russia border) had nothing to do with Canada. But they can still cost Canadian lives - but that's okay. It's good for our relations with American billionaires.

We have created a power and money-mad class of billionaires. We admired them and we vote for them - and they have nothing but contempt for us. And their Greed?

They happily murder for control of news media, of oil fields, for the killing of any people who get in their way. They are also not very bright. They show no sense of the end that they are leading us and themselves to.

The U.S. at least has a Bernie Sanders. We have nobody comparable. And, oh, we are a gullible lot for those people who rob us blind.

Despite what ignorant politicians and billionaires and journalists say, the end of this planet if in sight. Almost all of our leading scientists are agreed on that.
But we? We listen to the likes of Liberals and Conservatives who have been cheating us and serving others throughout history.

And the clock is running down quickly.

A note of apology

Not a good week. I have written a post for Saturday on the Canadian election. Unlike the others, it is not a survey of news media. It is my attempt at a clear view of where we are going. And where we are going is not pretty.

My theme is that very wealthy Canadians are robbing us blind at an increasing rate. that they own the Liberals and Conservatives - and that Canadians are even more backward in seeing this than Americans are.

Indeed, Canada has nobody, no party, like a Bernie Sanders. Politically, we are even more backward than Americans - and unpleasantly like Trump's followers. That's a serious comment. Our NDP and Greens get far, far less support than a Bernie Sanders. And they are also less radical than a Bernie Sanders.

The result is that we are now witnessing the most ignorant, worthless, dishonest election we have ever seen. And the result of a win by either Conservatives or Liberals is a disaster.

It's hard to imagine voters less intelligent than those of Canada. But we/re going to see it up close.

And we're going to pay a terrible price.

Alas! My computer has betrayed me, and refused to print the article. So I'm taking it in tomorrow for a pep talk with the computer repairman. And I shall, ,I hope, print it asap.

I think it safe to say that Canadians have no idea of the importance of this election. That 's why the Conservatives can babble about SNC Lavallin (a political  sort of crime that Conservatives have a long history of, and Liberals can continue to say nothing much about anything.

In comparison, Trump looks  sub human, of course, but at a higher level.
