What a collection of soggy wimps Canadians can be. They elected Doug Ford as premier. Ford has used his position to kiss up to the rich - and I would find it hard to believe that any person of normal intelligence could possibly vote for him.
For a start, he's a dim bulb at the best of times This is a man who tells us Canada's (and the world's) leading scientists are wrong. All those people with very advanced studies and lifetimes of research say we are facing climate change. But Doug Ford whose education ended with a high school diploma and a man who has never done any research on anything knows more than all the top scientists do.
He's also balancing the budget by freezing the salaries by a percent a year - but not of the rich - no, of teachers, of labour, of low paying jobs. In fact, almost all Canadian governments have hugely raised the profits of the very rich for many years now.
This is appallingly treacherous even by the standards of the Conservative party hacks who have been the corrupt servants of the very rich for as long as they have existed.
Hey! Canadians! Wake up!
Didn't you know our first P.M., Conservative John A. Macdonald, was on the take? In particular, he was an errand boy for the capitalists of Montreal. And John A most certainly was not the last one. For example, when you have time get a gander at the 'home' (palace) of Brian Mulroney. It's a massive pile of stone on a large lot in Montreal's most expensive district. (And this is the Brian Mulroney is the guy who accepted the gift of very large suitcase of money do do him a favour.
But fear not, the Liberals began as kiss-ups for the wealthy of Toronto. Now Trudeau did a big, big favour for Lavallin Of course. But these two parties have been on the take from 1867 and even earlier. And you know what?
Canadians are going to be dumb enough to vote for them again.
We have, for some time, been going down the toilet. We get no taxes from our super wealthy. None. Not a cent. Nada. On the country, we throw our money at them all the time. When I lived in New Brunswick, it astonished me how much goodies the Irving got from the government - Conservative and Liberal.
These two parties have nothing but contempt for our freely accepted handouts from our Liberals and Conservatives. And it really doesn't matter which of them you vote for. Both are bad, bad news.
We have been suffering for years from declining income value. Of course. And it's going to get worse, much, much worse. And it's going to crash.
And you know what? When it crashes, large numbers of Canadians will vote Liberal - and blame the Conservatives. And large numbers will vote Conservative and blame the Liberals.
Alas! Neither the Greens nor the NDP have adequate policies in place. (Lord! Canadians can wander in a stupor.) But at least they'll get us out of the Conservative/Liberal swamp.
I don't know whether 2050 is the new target date. If it is, then it's probably too late now. So let's hope 2100 is still a living possibility.
But, Oh Canada, wake up! Now!

Oh, as a footnote to the item above, the U.S. has placed a ban on at least three countries - Cuba, Venezuela, and Iran. The ban is enforced by the U.S. telling the world it must not deal with them. Well, this has been a long one. It had to be. The world has never before been in the danger it now is. A war with China is very possible. And the U.S. could fight it only with massive bombing - Americas favoured way of fighting for the last seventy years - a way that inflicts massive killing on civilians, women, children.
If we in the west have any moral or social principles, they have been put into storage a long time ago. All that we have left is stunning greed, indifference to others, endless brutality, plunder, destruction. Our military government is so destructive that it can and will inflict horrors we have never seen before.
Christianity? Get real. We dumped that 200 years ago. And how we're settiing up our own children for destruction.
Take a look at the American government. It's at least as corrupt and filthy as any government now or ever. And Canada? With our rise of Doug Fords and Jason Kenneys and, in fact, just about every government in Canadian history we are an amazingly blanked out society, too placid, too much in a stupor to think of the horror we are leaving for our children.
And right now, it's very, very bad. We refuse to take our responsibilities. We refuse to think of what a hell we are leaving for our children.....
And we actually let billionaires hide away their money in secret banks, leaving our children with even less than we started with.

"June 6, 1944 marked D-Day, the launch of the Second Front intended to liberate the western part of Europe from their long years of Nazi occupation. It was a mammoth heroic and bitterly contested crossing of the English Channel landing on the beaches of Normandy and much Allied blood was paid for the bridgehead, British and Commonwealth and American.
Contrary to Hollywood myth-making of the 1213 warships involved in the landing, 892 were British or Canadian as against 200 American.

Fictional too is the myth that D-Day was launched in order to take pressure off the Eastern Front where for three long years Soviet Red Army soldiers and civilians had been dying in their millions. In fact, D-Day was finally launched – three years late and despite repeated false promises that it would be – precisely because of the rate of the Soviet advance on Berlin and the danger of the precipitous collapse of the beast of fascism therein before Western armies could even get their boots on European ground.
The failure to launch the Second Front in 1942 and in 1943 was motivated at first by the belief and in many quarters the hope that Nazism would vanquish the USSR and destroy it. This same hope had motivated many of the appeasers who had failed to confront Hitler from the mid-1930s praying that in return he would turn his monstrous war-machine eastwards instead.
After Stalingrad and the Battle of Kursk and the bitter retreat of the fascist forces towards Germany that hope turned into a fear that the Red Army would win a complete victory almost on its own.
Such a mindset is still present as demonstrated by the minting of a coin commemorating this 75th Anniversary of the landings which completely omits the flag of the USSR – the most vital part of the great war-time alliance without whom the landings could never have been made and the war could not have been won!"

We often (usually) glamorize war. And that particularly true on special remembrances - as D day.
As I read about that , i was reminded of an uncle who joined the army in 1939, and who was at Dieppe and D-Day. He joined so he could dump his wife and family. And it worked. For the rest of his life, he talked of nothing but the great war he enjoyed of dancing and parties.
Then there was Bertie. He was severely retarded. He left school in grade three, and he used to play with me when I was six or seven. At sixteen (he was a big kid who looked older) he stole his older brothers draft papers and joined the army. Three months late he was just over the German border, lying in the mud with his company as a German machine gun cut the air over his head.. Years later, I met his sergeant.
" I think Bertie was cryin'. Yeah. He was cryin'. Hell, he was only a kid. Then he jumped up screamin'. And the machine gun cut him in half. Craziest thing. He was callin' for his mother....

Very often it's about the mass murder of women and children. It's about rape. It's about deliberately starving people to death - as in Yemen. It's about theft.
