Nice to see Canada taking a stand against that good friend of the U.S., Saudi Arabia.
Britain and Germany, in contrast - well -- I guess they'll kiss any rear end.

We are facing an election in which the two major parties have nothing intelligent to say. And no party has had much to say about the greatest danger facing this planet. Our time to act is very, very short - and Canadians are all just standing around with their faces hanging out.

At this most dangerous time in the life of Canada, our political parties are discussing trivia..

Our world leaders will get things under control by 2050? Wow! That's a mere 60 years from when they were first warned about this. Let's get real.

Can Canadians seriously suggest that the Conservatives are going to do anything significant? If they haven't done anything for thirty years, you think t they're suddenly going to jump into action? Think hard, They won the recent election in Alberta precisely on the argument they would do nothing.

The Liberals have said they will take action. But taking any significant action is precisely what they have not done. Nor have the Greens and the NDP been all that lively.

Thirty years is a long time. And we have no idea how quickly the situation might develop. So are we going to suffer from this casual approach? You get we are. We're already suffering from unusually strong hurricanes. We're suffering from agricultural disasters that are going to plunge a billion people into suffering and migration. (And we're not going to do a thing to help them.)  Arctic and Antarctic meltdown are happening fast. Animal and bird species are disappearing in the millions.

In thirty years, we have done nothing. And in another thirty years? I see no reason to have faith in the oil industry, for one. And the oil industry owns the Liberals, the Conservatives, the U.S. Republicans and most of the Democrats.

And the Canadian and American people? Most of those of voting age are out to lunch.

The meaning of drones in warfare. It's important to understand this.A simple and cheap weapon destroyed the economy of one of the worlds most advanced and expensive air forces. A nuclear bomb couldn't have done any better.

The wealth of our very wealthy is going to destroy all of us. In fact, it has been lowering incomes for all North Americans for decades. And it has led us into wars whose only excuse was to make the very rich  even richer - (they get the benefit of the wars. But we, who have to  pay for the wars and die for them, get no benefit at all from them.)

Yes. McGill University developed torture techniques for the U.S. military. (I knew one of the victims of it.) And of course it did so with the cooperation and support of the government of Canada.

Too true. And the mass murder of children and of civilians in general has been a feature of warfare from some point in World War Two.  Yes, and it's been a feature of warfare designed by us.

Is this next analysis overdone? I think it is toward the end. But the portrait of Trump could well be an accurate one.

When I was 15 or so, I was given the set of Winston Churchill's  History of the English-speaking Peoples. I was swept away  by it. That man could write.....

Later, I took a closer look at  his life. And I learned that he could really lie, too.

Churchill was raised in a strange and lonely home for a child. As the son of an aristocrat,, his superiority over all other was bred into him. He had nothing but contempt for all but English speaking peoples - and a murderous contempt for the people who suffered through the British Empire. He killed millions of innocent people by starvation  - as in India and China.

He also had utter com tempt to those British who were not wealthy or aristocrats.

As for his performance as a leader in World War Two, that was largely a creation of the western news media of the time.

As the great power, the U.S. has not been impressive.  Think Afghanistan, Vietnam, North Korea, Cuba.......  The U.S. was massively more powerful than any of these, but......;

And in Iran, it's quite possible  the U.S. would also encounter Russia and China.

The Hong Kongers who cheer the long years of their domination by Britain are suffering delusions about what their parents and grandparents (and more) suffered from.

The British occupation of Hong Kong was brutal. and destructive and racist.

But that doesn't matter any more. Hong Kongers are not going to get the complete democracy they want. That simply is not going to happen. They need to settle for some compromise that they can get because, for all the chatter, nobody is going to help them. And further agitation can only lead to disaster for the people of Hong Kong.

I regret having to say so. But that's reality.
