There's a lot that's ugly about Canada as it faces a national election.
The platforms of our Liberal and Conservative parties are ugly (and shallow and ignorant) to a degree we've never seen before.
And racism is popping up. (French Quebec could not accept that anglos should be there. After all, the French were there first.) Duh..actually...the French were second (third if you count the brief appearance of the vikings.) The first, by far, were the aboriginal peoples who were either murdered by the French or had their land stolen from them. Now, Quebec racism is aimed at the Muslims who (horrors) cover their heads.
And, somehow, this all fits in with the ugliest and greediest election Canada has ever seen.
Have you heard of the Bilderberg Group? This is a very secretive organization of the very, rich who meet periodically with their flunkies around the world. The meetings are secret. But we know the basic idea. It exists to spread the word that democracy does not work, and that we would all be better off if the very rich ruled the world. (No. I'm not exaggerating.)
In fact, the super rich have been running the U.S. and Canada for a very long time. They've done it by buying off elected politicians. That's why billionaires are allowed to avoid taxes by hiding their money. (Think of the idiocy of that. Billionaires don't pay taxes. Meanwhile, the working class and the middle class of Canada and the U.S. have been getting poorer for a good fifty years but must pay taxes. Millions go hungry or ill, sleep on the streets, settle for third rate education, can't afford decent housing - while our billionaires sit on heaps of money so great they could not be spent in a hundred lifetimes and more of great luxury.)
We, the whole world, have been almost constantly at war since 1950, murdering millions (while calling on God's blessings), creating fortunes for weapons manufacturers, starving millions. And, of course, it's our taxes - the rich, after all, don't pay taxes - and it's our sons and daughters who die in the wars.
When the hell are we going to wake up?
Obviously, it's not going to be in this election. (Look again at the opening sentence of this blog.)
Think about the Conservative sense of policy. The Conservatives openly believe that this world should be run by the very rich. That's why a Doug Ford can make necessary services give less to those who need them (like feeding children who otherwise get nothing) to give ever more money to all those very rich who don't pay income tax. Even better. He (and the Liberals) who don't give money to hungry children hand it out in millions to well-fed billionaires.
The Conservative party is one that will actively destroy Canada to kiss up to the very rich. And millions of Canadians, especially the poor ones, are going to vote for it.
The Liberals are less obvious about it. But they aren't much different.
The NDP and the Greens don't go nearly as far as they should in their policies. But they are not destructive as the Conservatives and Liberals are. And many of their ideas are quite sensible. And none of their ideas comes even close to the destructive policies of the Conservatives and Liberals.
And the Canadian people? Sigh. They vote like their mummies and daddies did for two, big parties that were born corrupt and the servants of the forever greedy.
Part of that, I guess, is the dishonesty of our news media and the lack of any substantial opposition to those news media.
I cannot imagine any result of this election which would be anything but disastrous. It is actually worse, much worse than the United States.
Oh, would things be better if the rich ruled the world? It's not a new idea. In fact, it has been the pattern of just about every society I have ever heard of, the pattern of all the empires in history. And every one of them collapsed.

The public school is one of the greatest triumphs of modern civilization. They not only made it possible for generations to function in modern societies; they gave all children a chance to function in our societies.
But they're under attack. private school advocates want a piece of the action. In this view, the only purpose of education is to make them richer
(Are the public schools better? Certainly, the students are taught to believe they are better. I had a cousin who was seriously retarded. So he was sent to private school here in Ottawa. At the end of his education, he was still retarded. But he thought he was one of the intellectual elite.)
The wealthy have never liked the public schools. To them, the only point of any institution is to make money and, if possible, to make us peasants pony up some of that money (which could better be spent on public schools.)
The private schools are in for happy times under Alberta's United Conservatives.
And the public schools, the ones that give us all a chance? Who gives a damn!

Will this change the thinking of the United Conservative Party?
Of course not. The United Conservative Party can't change it's thinking. It has no thinking to change.
It has no thinking to change.

And Canadians died for that. When we speak of our troops, it's always in praise of them. And that's fair enough. Our troops are not the ones who decided to fight an American war in Afghanistan. But it would have been nice to hear The Canadian Legion on this subject. It exists, after all, to serve our soldiers - not our politicians and billionaires.

The U.S. will no doubt soon announce it wants to restore democracy to Iran. In fact, it was the U.S. and its buddies who destroyed a democratic Iran almost seventy years ago - and installed a dictator. And it was the Iranians who got rid of him.

Of course the U.S. plans to attack Venezuela and Iran. The U.S. is attacking other countries to steal their oil. Indeed, that is a major reason why the U.S. entered the European part of World War Two. And it was very successful in beating up on the British and swiping their oil fields.
(Similarly, the U.S. did not enter the war against Japan because of Pearl Harbour. That was planned to get control of a China that was then a part of the British Empire. It wanted an attack on some American territory to give in an excuse for war. It just never expected the Japanese to hit Pearl Harbour.)
A war against either Venezuela or Iran would be an illegal act of war. But the U.S. is accustomed to illegal acts of war.

The newspapers, all owned by the Irvings, are the worst I have ever seen. They make even Last Post sort of....respectable. But only if you read it with your eyes closed.
Romeo Leblanc, before he became Governor General, was the Liberal contact with the Irving's. (Romeo was not dishonest ---naive, though. His son, Dominic, now a major figure in the federal cabinet, seems quite different from his father. He's not naive. And he seems to be dishonest.
