I included the next item for personal satisfaction. A high school classmate of mine was a person ever in search of a cause. His first was communism, and shortly after leaving high school he opened a communist book store and night club. Then he went to teach in Cuba and Asia. He invented communist volleyball in which the whole purpose was for both sides to keep the ball in the air for ever. And then came his great cause - bicycle lanes in Montreal.
He organized hundreds to lie down and block traffic. He created massive bicycle parades. And this was enormously successful. He forced the city to paint bicycle lanes all over the city. He introduced bicycle depots where cyclists could borrow bicycles and return them at another depot. He forced city buses to carry bicycles for their passengers.
We called him Bicycle Bob. The politicians hated him. But, oh, he made Montreal a different city for its people.

And that reminds me of The Canadian Legion. On any issue I have ever heard of, the legion comes down on the side of war. But I should think that an organization of people who have suffered war would be more thoughtful,
Remember those who served in World War 2? Of course.
But Afghanistan? 159 Canadians died there. Why? Shouldn't the legionaries put down their beer for a few minutes? Shouldn't they ask why Canadians have fought in American wars that had nothing to do with Canada - and, indeed, that never should been fought by the US in the first place.
Of all people, Legionaries should be the first to question wars - and which ones are ours and which ones aren't. They should be critics of government decisions about war. But instead, they are cheerleaders. Those who died deserve a better remembrance than that.

Quebec, both French and English, has always been racist. I grew up in a district that was 99% French and Catholic. Catholic symbols and parades were all over the place. Protestant ones were virtually forbidden. When our Protestant church was stoned and its windows smashed, the police pretty much ignored it (though it was just across the street.) The reaction of the local French Catholic priest? "It's just a Protestant church."
But, given the chance, the English were no better. They were, until very recently, anti-Semites with a vengeance. (The wealthy ones probably still are.)

The world today actually has MORE oil polluting us than it ever had in history. We leaned some thirty years ago what was facing us. But instead of acting on the danger, we have decided that the world's greatest scientists have no idea what they are talking about. No. The only people we can trust are the greediest and most murderous people in world history.
This is essentially the message of our commercial news media. Trust premier Doug Ford, perhaps the least educated PM in Canadian history. Trust Jack Cheney, the Alberta premier who has spent his life kissing the asses of the wealthy. Trust the oil billionaires who have had nothing intelligent to say from the start. Ignore the phenomenal ice melt of our Arctic and Ant-Arctic. Forget the yearly reports of dangerous and growing climate change.
Just a few years ago, we were looking at the end of our planet at some time about 2020. Now, it could be just twenty or thirty years. And we have handed over all power to the greediest and most vicious bastards in human history. And we have handed them the greediest and possibly most stupid elected officials in human history.
