As I began this Thursday blog, I was astonished to find I had not published my Tuesday Feb. 5 blog.
Hey! I'm getting old and senile. Someday, you will too. So here they both are.

Capitalists don't care. They don't care about any of these shocking reports about climate. They don't care because caring would cut into their profits. We have created a real horror class of people so obsessed with wealth that they refuse to see reality.
We're seen this before. Just about every empire that ever there was has been dominated by a wealthy class which is concerned only with itself. This latest one is just the biggest binge of greed - and the one with the greatest capacity for destructiveness.
Either we get control of this or it will destroy us. And soon.

You want to tackle an evil ruler? Wonderful. How about starting with almost all the presidents of the U.S. who deliberately slaughtered civilians in Korea, and who used chemicals to kill the people of Vietnam and to produce horribly deformed babies who were guaranteed to die while still children.
How about George Bush Sr. who murdered 200,000 innocent people in Guatemala - and who included Catholic priests, nuns and missionaries in his slaughter. Interestingly, our news media never carried that story at all. If you want information about it, the only source is a film by Canada's National Film Board.
(When Bush died, the press described him as a loving parent and grandparent - and a servant of his country. In fact, he was just as brutal as his not very bright son.)
We are also buddies of Saudi Arabia, a vicious anti-democracy country which Canada and the U.S. sell weapons to and which, with American help, has starved thousands of Yemen children to death. For that matter, the U.S. has been the most murderous country in the world since 1945, invading at least 80 countries and killing at least 40 million people.
(Of course, the world record for mass murder is probably still held by the old British empire at over 350 million. Rule --Bri-tania--
Okay, Justin Trudeau. How about a speech on that subject?
True. Maduro is not a nice guy. But he's a sweetheart compared to the U.S.
(footnote - I was suprised by the freqent reference by the CBC columnist to Maduro as a bullying marxist. He may well be, of course. But why doesn't he or any other writer I have seen referred to U.S. leaders as bullying capitalists? They have, in fact been far, far bigger bullies than Maduro.)

Now this is curious. I have seen many pictures of mob demonstrations in Venezuela in our news media. All of them have been on the side of the American claimant for power. (And, I think, all have been the same photo.) But here's one of a giant rally - in favour of Maduro.

We don't live in a democracy. Our politicians, for the most part, are the servants of big money. And Justin Trudeau is a prime example of that. And big money owes nothing to you. It pays no taxes. It has no obligation whatever to you.
This is an old, old story. It happened under the Roman Empire as most of the population lived on a starvation income, and when the common dead were simply dumped into great pits. It happened in the monarchies and upper classes of Europe when the poor majority had to march off to wars that brought them nothing - and had to fight with their only weapons their farming tools.
In our own time, pensions and minimum wage and medicare do not come from the kindness of the wealthy. We have had to fight for them - and the wealthy of the richest nation in the world still can't get medicare or adequate wages.
All the super wealthy of the world could fit into a very small elementary school. And for all their wealth, they are too greedy to see the disaster this is
taking all of us to - including them.

The most prominent people in saying nothing and doing nothing about climate change are our oil barons. These, like the old, British aristocracy, are people of no great intelligence or training - and particularly of no training in the sciences. And these are the people who have decided that we will do nothing about climate change.

The U.S. has attacked over 80 countries - mostly by bombing and mostly killing civilians - since 1945. Remember all the anger of the US when it suffered from the one and only attack on the U.S. with the attack on the World Trade Centre?
But Americans have no reluctance to do that to other countries every day.

Again, I apologize for not sending off Tuesday's blog when I wrote it.
As well, it is profoundly depressing to write today on a world that is closely modelled on Hitler's Germany. And, in broader terms it reminds me of our own own histories. We humans, of course, go back to ape-like people - all of whom were slaughtered after homo sapiens, our current form, appeared.
Homo sapiens was so intellectually advanced that all other forms of human life were soon wiped out by it. And that is also why so many prehistoric species like the giant kangaroo disappeared. (We live in a world with far, far fewer species than there used to be. It was homo sapiens that destroyed the camel, for example, in the Americas.)
So far, we're doing a pretty thorough job of destroying wild life in Africa and Asia - and we're much better than our ancestors in destroying the creatures of the sea.
What we need is a new human species, one smarter than homo sapiens, to dispose of us.
