The last time I was in China, I saw lots of high rise buildings in Hong Kong. But not in mainland China cities like Beijing. Traffic in Hong Kong? You bet. It was constant. Not so in mainland China where traffic was largely of buses and trucks. Housing in mainland China was pretty primitive as a few of these pictures still show. But, oh, there have been huge changes. And the car traffic now looks like any North American city.

As a student in grades 5 to 8, I attended what was the most vicious, bullying school in Montreal. We were Canadian English, Syrians, Italians, Polish, Jewish.... There were lots of fights, even rapes - in the school yard. But I cannot recall any fights based on racism.
Some of that is because most blacks and Chinese in Montreal lived mostly in segregated districts. But there were a couple of blacks, at least, and I never saw racial hatred targeting them. Canadians of the time were, of course, quite racist. But racism in the school yard seems to be much on the rise.
And we Canadians seem to be more racist than in my school days. And they transmit that racism to their children. That increased racism also is to be found in new laws in the province of Quebec, laws that target Muslims as enemies.

In a U.S. vote today, Donald Trump has a large and faithful vote from millions of evangelical Christians. These are the people who have been regular supporters of American murder and plunder all over the world. Those in the U.S. believe that Donald Trump was sent by God - possibly even the risen son of God.
They are Christians - but only when it is convenient to be so. Their Christianity consists in getting themselves into heaven for eternity - while the rest of us burn in hell. The Ten Commandments? They don't even think about them. On the contrary, they actively support mass murder, have only contempt for the poor and the hungry. As Christians, these people are an ignorant farce. But, oh, there are a lot of them.
For that matter, a great many of the more conventional Christians are not any better. Christians, too, have supported mass murder and plundering all over the world - and they always have for the best part of 2,000 years.
The same is also true of Canada.
In any case, they have almost no idea of the nature of the world they live in. As religions go, Christianity is pretty much a dead concept.
To make things worse, most Canadians and Americans rely on news media owned by or in league with the national butchers and thieves of our countries. If you need proof, eheck out just about any news medium in North America. I live in Ottawa, a city whose newspapers don't even look at reality. And if they happen to mention climate change, it's only to say it ain't real. (Guess what kind of journalism lying Albertans swear by.)
The result is a North American population that is largely ignorant of what is happening - that we are being plundered by our wealthy with the massive help of
bought politicians in the Liberals, Conservatives, Republicans and a great many
Democrats.
And so it is that New Brunswickers continue to vote for the Liberals and Conservatives, though it should be obvious both of those parties are owned by the plundering Irving family. And so it is that the people of Ontario kiss the fat belly of an ignorant and corrupt premier who serves only the very rich.
Routinely, Canadians and Americans vote for the corrupt liars that they have always voted for. And the certain result of that?
Two possibilities. One of them is the death of the western economies - and quite dreadful suffering (though not for the very rich). Or - death by wars, notably by the Christian West. And keep an eye on Iran for just such a war to please very greedy American billionaires. China has already drawn a line in the sand about that,and Russia might well feel it has to do so, though neither of them has been very warlike for over twenty years. The loose killers in our world for a century and longer have been the British Empire and the U.S. Empire.
It is quite possible that Canada will be asked to take part in such a war. And, if asked, it is dead certain that the Liberals and Conservatives will kiss up to the U.S.
